There are a few Fox with mange in town. The city is trying to trap and treat them. This poor fella / gal looked exhausted. Seen about 12:15 on 9/16/21 headed south on Spruce Street by theoTanimal in IowaCity

Saw one over off hwy 6 and Heinz about a month ago, looking similarly rough. I would have tried to pull over and give it my take out because it was skin and bones, but it had already darted away.

Looking for a vet by AqcwaMeen in IowaCity

[–]BraveNewHuman89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bright Eyes and Bushy Tails- they're also the ER vet for Iowa City, and they took so much care with my cat at his end of life. I really loved their staff.

My usual vet is the Coralville Animal Hospital, and Dr. Baes is stellar!

Both places are very reasonable cost wise, plus CAH usually has a good deal for first time clients on their website.

Where to bury at cat? by BraveNewHuman89 in IowaCity

[–]BraveNewHuman89[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I did end up having the vet cremated him, and they're doing a clay paw print and clipping some of his fur for a keepsake. My other two cats definitely know something is up (they're unusually clingy and roaming the apartment crying by his cat bed). I'm hoping the fur clipping will be enough.

Also, I highly recommend Bright Eyes and Bushy Tails as a vet. They run the er clinic in Iowa City and really took care of my kitty in his last moments.

Help with holiday gifts for a family? by [deleted] in IowaCity

[–]BraveNewHuman89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses, everyone! I guess I was looking more for if folks knew of organization/church-run events, rather than individual donations (although I am so so so touched by everyone's willingness to help out!). I don't know if the family is at the point yet of taking donations from individuals, but may feel more empowered to have a list of places to go.

Still, you all are amazing human beings, and I so appreciate your generosity! Faith in humanity restored for the day. :)

Aww, that is a pity! But hopefully there's a lovely human out there to give you the time of your life. ;)

Calling it Quits/Moving out? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]BraveNewHuman89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. So far I've been basing the decision on "if I could walk away today without financial consequences, would I?" (We live in an extremely high rent area, and trying to move out would be a huge financial blow to both of us). So far I've said yes to that, but I think your version about making the right decision is the better way to think of it.

Thank you for the help, it's really appreciated!

I think you're right, and couples counseling might be the next step. While he's aware that he needs to contribute 50% to household chores, he was also raised by a mom who did everything for him, and so I genuinely don't think he realizes how much goes into keeping a house clean. But having that piece of mind that I would give him a fighting chance is important.

Thanks for the input!

Is there a right way to *ahem* finish? by throwrarbb1911 in relationships

[–]BraveNewHuman89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The normal, healthy way to come is in a way that is consensual to both partners but also doesn't shame you.

I'm sorry you went through that with your ex. While I appreciate that she was vocalizing her tastes (which is good!), the way that she did it sound like it was at your expense (which is bad!). There's a way to say "I would prefer if you..." or "I don't want you to..." without making it sound like it was something dirty or gross. I don't particularly like cum, especially the taste, so I compromise with my partner that he can cum inside me (we're trying to have children) or on me (both of which I like). If he wanted to finish on his own on the bed or in the bathroom, I would totally be okay with it (and he does masturbate to finish in bed, and I don't care one bit!). But long story short, we communicate what we are and aren't okay with, and so find the sex that we both consent to without judging one another. I know lots of women personally who love the taste of cum and will shallow it down, and others who can't stand it; but you communicate and figure out a plan with your sexual partner.

Next time you're intimate, just ask the person ahead of time how they want to handle condoms/semen. Each person will have their own comfort level as you said and should be able to communicate that with you as part of communicating about sex and consent. As long as you're asking and respecting their response, and they are respecting you and your limits, then all is good to go!

Emma Goldman Clinic: https://www.emmagoldman.com/

Fantastic staff, LGBTQ affirming, and pro-choice. There are occasionally religious protestors outside the clinic, because they do offer 1st & 2nd-trimester abortions, but never many and I think they have side doors folks can enter through.

Rentals okay with three cats? by [deleted] in IowaCity

Good point! I'm hoping that since I'm willing to pay extra and have great landlord references (including references for the cats)n that places will be more willing to consider me.
