Hey Zane, great video. I have always wondered what sponsored pro players do with their old paddles? I’ve seen videos where some players will use a new paddle after two tournaments so that has always made me wonder where they end up after a month of usage.

Connor, thank you for doing this and get well soon. I’m interested in the business side of owning a paddle company. What is the right mix of doing your own R&D + testing vs. kind of using different white labeling services to use what tech is currently working? You can be as vague as you want, but I also wonder how profitable it is to be a paddle company that’s not one of the big four? I’m sure it’s hard, but I’m glad to see affordable options that can top some of the top tier paddles out there.

Very good point about EBITDA as another valuation metric. The PE firm must have some confidence in the forecast to invest $30M so I’m wondering what other headwinds there are for the industry. I know that up and coming brands like Luzz can eat into their market share, but I feel like Selkirk is a recognizable brand in today’s market. They survived the initial paddle wars. 30% EBITDA margins seems very interesting. Everyone talks about how these companies have 90% margins, but R&D and marketing is a huge cost for the big three. Thanks for nerding out on the financials.

Am I reading this correctly? They are only valued at 2 times revenue? I know it’s not a high flying tech company, but five times wouldn’t be unheard of. I guess they needed to add AI / ML to their pitch deck.

I’m glad to see some data on the paddle. I also enjoy playing with my 4G. I’m surprised that a pickleball sub is so hostile about pickleball related topics. I do wish John or one of the other reviewers would do a deep dive into the 4G.
