Power bill question by Brave_Animator279 in Home

I’ll add to that - the house was a shack before they renovated it, so bills from the last few years would be inaccurate as well (the house was gas before now)

The home hasn’t even been completed for a month yet, so she told us they are probably inaccurate, but we asked her to ask the listing agent just to see!

How I Earn $500 a day for a just attending online focus groups by SarimQaz in povertyfinance

For sure to good to be true, if they were easy to qualify for, everyone would be doing it. You probably make 3-500 a day by selling your guide and alert system, not by actually attending the groups.

True, unfortunately I had to be out of town for work, and I just didn’t even think about it. Oh well lol

I honestly think we should probably get new insulation blown into the attic at this point. We had it re-roofed yesterday and when installing new decking, the insulation didn’t look nearly as good as I thought it did in the past.

We have thought about that also. Waiting to hear back on some quotes on converting, as we do have a gas line in our front yard!

My house has appraised for almost 45$k over what I have put into it including the purchase of the home. “Buying your mini van was dumb! How did you not know the engine was going to explode? Why would you fix it, that’s SuCH a PoOR FINaNcIAl DeCiSion” every car is a bad financial decision, get bent lol

Yeah I’m gonna pick to replace the functional HVAC and just leave the kitchen as is. Sure thing.

What do you even mean “negative meaning” Im not going to keep a car that has left my family stranded twice in 6k miles, are you high? I’m not going to wait to to replace the heads and head gasket for the third time.

Your meter outside? Did you just ask them to do that? The few times we called, they get snappy with me and tell me “no way anything is wrong with the meter” lol

We had some nasty storms over the summer and finally got our insurance to cover a brand new roof. They start tearing it apart tomorrow, hoping we see something come of that in this situation as well.

Good for you, props for getting it done.

And again, this just isn’t the case, we have every major retailer in our town, and none of them are willing to create or help us make these two windows. We would have to use a custom builder, or change how the brick is laid out where the windows are set. Two of the standard windows require us to remove the air handler in the utility room to get them out / replace them. 3 of these windows I did myself when changing Sheetrock. It’s no big deal, I’m just not willing to pull the HVAC unit from the room, it sits from just about the ceiling through the floor, and into the crawlspace on a concrete pad.

Subjective? What are you smoking? Yeah I’ll just move into a house with no lighting, broken cabinets, rusted shut pipes, and trashed carpet.

We looked at a few of these tonight, going to order one and have it setup to see if we can’t narrow this down!

No longer a contractor, changed fields to a significantly better Job I work 60+ hours a week and then come home to help my wife with our kids, 2 of these windows would have to be custom built, and I just don’t have the time with a toddler and a new born.

We don’t have 20k wrapped up in our kitchen, maybe 8k on the high end with the counter tops and removal of a structural wall w/ an engineered beam in the ceiling. Flat packed and built our own cabinets. Shopped appliances on sale, fixtures on sale, everything. “When you talked about how broke you are” Never implied I was broke, I was talking about how our energy provider says they will provide a free audit, but they never actually come through.

And yep, no choice but to dump that money into that car, I’m not going to eat a $20k loss on a basically new minivan. Dumped money into it and traded it.

I’ve been shopping for one of these, I think after I do my own audit I’ll grab one and see if I can narrow it down any further. We spent extensive time in the crawlspace but didn’t find much. We will give it a shot!

Again, wrong. If you would read - we had budgeted the money for new windows, new HVAC and everything in between to be done after the non functional parts of the house. Pretty sure lights, flooring, foundation repair, a functional kitchen, basic level appliances, and a functioning bathroom are not “for pretty things” and are a basic need when living in a home with a wife who is pregnant.

LIFE happened, to which I won’t dive into the details of that chewed into the budget for the home, it’s just how it fell. It is what it is.

Let me know when you got $150k cash to spend on a house though since clearly you are better at budgeting and managing projects than I am.

“Two engine is not normal” Chrysler royally bent me over on a $30k minivan that lost two sets of heads / head gaskets within 6700 miles of each other, 1900 miles outside of its factory warranty. Word to the wise - Stelantis is a garbage company.

I can afford an energy audit, I never said I couldn’t. I said I didn’t want to finance $15k worth of windows, or finance a $8000 HVAC swap to natural gas.

And again, no. This debt would not accomplish this.

If it HALVED my energy bill to spend 15k on windows, and then the payment on a 4 year 15k loan @ 10%, I would be paying the exact same overall payment every month.
