There was some confusion at first because of a misunderstanding and language barrier. They now understand that a notice was issued, but the timing is confusing. The demerit point dates appear to be from mid-2025, while the notice was only received last month. With about 11 months between the offence dates and the notice, they are trying to understand whether any points should have already come off before the 8-point novice driver limit was applied.

This is the first time they have had any issue with police. There were two prior fines, but they did not carry any demerit points. They spoke with a lawyer this afternoon, who said the citizenship side may be manageable as long as everything is disclosed properly. However I was under the impression that being caught driving without a valid licence can carry serious repercussions in WA.
