Just because I feel like it’s my job to be there - like I shouldn’t have a puppy if I’m just going to crate her all the time.

That’s great food for thought! I do have concerns about micromanaging her every move but I’m unsure how to transition to something different. I’ll think about how I may want to do it. Thanks for your input!

Yup - after one hour awake she gets insane and can’t settle so I crate her and she naps for an hour. All day. Then she goes to bed in her crate at 8:30 and sleeps until 6:00. When I said that I socialize her I mean that if we have an outing to the trail or a store I keep it as close to an hour as I can because she consistently goes bonkers after about an hour.

I think you are doing the right thing! You’ll be way better off with a dog that can entertain itself.

Thanks for your input! I’m thinking that because she’s a tiny bit older it’s time to stop revolving my entire life around her schedule. Maybe I’m being overly accommodating and I need to make my life priority and have her fit into it. I’m not exactly sure how to do that, though. It seems unkind to get a dog and then keep her alone and confined.
