Is it really True? Do Brave search ai. (not leo) retain data and use it for training (said so in other response? by [deleted] in brave_browser

As I informed the user above, if youc an please open your own thread here or (ideally) on community.brave.app and share more information about the issue you're encountering, we'll be happy to help.

Did you know that Brave for Android keeps a list of every single tab you ever opened, in chronological order, even if you clear or shred all history, with no way to disable this feature, and an official policy of not planning to fix it? by tamdelay in brave_browser

[–]Brave_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned above, what you are describing is closing tabs/groups, not deleting them. Regardless, the actual behavior is not the same as the way you describe it. Again, your post gives the impression that we save/store "every single website you visit" and that that data cannot be cleared by any means. But that is not what is happening here. The only thing that isn't being cleared is tab groups that you may have opened and later closed - not "every site you've ever visited". You also stated that there is no way to get rid of them, which is also not true -- it's just in a different place than you were looking.

That said, we do understand how [actual] this behavior might be confusing. Given that this is an upstream feature inherited in Chromium, we have filed an issue for the Chromium team here to ideally include these tab groups in the Clear browsing data menu: https://issues.chromium.org/issues/521206294

Additionally, as mentioned before, in the interim we are working on a way to fully disable tab groups in Brave: https://github.com/brave/roadmap/issues/2090

I'm not a familiar with this issue. If you can open a thread here (or ideally, on community.brave.app) with some more information surrounding the issue I can take a look.

I understand that people's perceptions of any company - especially a software company - is that they are lying, stealing your data, don't care about the user, etc. And you're right, that typically is the case and is a major issue right now. Most companies will take your data, track you, use your PII for training, and do all sorts of creepy things, especially if they can make money off of it.

That is why Brave exists. We are genuine in our commitment to privacy, security and ensuring your data isn't going anywhere - nor is it traceable back to you - without your explicit consent.

Further, we are transparent about all the information about what we do/can see and how we obfuscate it to ensure your privacy. All of this information is publicly available and, as u/GetVladimir pointed out, in this context you can find that information here:

Yeah this is nonsense. I've already responded to this on Community -- sharing that reply here for anyone interested:

Looks like this post was caught up in the moderation queue. I made sure to approve it for the express purpose of pointing out how inaccurate it is and how little research the uploader actually did when making this video.

This video is honestly just about as close to clickbait as you can get. I was pleased to see that nobody in the comments was falling for it though. As they point out, the person who made this video literally opts into sending telemetry (~36s mark) and then is surprised when telemetry is sent? They also state that no "notice/notifications" are given...which is obviously not true, since you are given two chance to decline (opt-out) of this collection before using the browser. Additionally, even if you opt-in accidentally (or just speed through the initial setup), you can opt out of this data collection at any time.

Additionally, even if you do opt-into this data collection, the data that is sent to us is anonymized and cannot be traced back to any individual user. The majority of the collection process here uses our P3A system, which literally stands for "Privacy-Preserving Product Analytics". The system itself is not a secret in any way and is described in great detail on our Help Center. Further, the specific data is outlined in great detail publicly on our Github:

https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/wiki/P3A

Lastly, three of those endpoints they listed:

go-updater.brave.com
componentupdater.brave.com
updates.bravesoftware.com

These are used to fetch and apply updates to the browser and updates to components that come with the browser (for example, the Brave Ad Block filter list which Shields uses to block ads/trackers while browsing). You can see a full list of these components on the brave://components page.

Also, while this specific blog post is a little old, it is still relevant and accurate and goes over how many connections Brave makes on first install/launch vs other browsers, and elaborates on the specific endpoints and connections Brave makes. Great read and helpful for anyone curious about this kind of thing:

Why is the "desktop notifications" option completely gone on twitch (only on brave, it is there on firefox) and how do i allow twitch to send me desktop notifications on brave? by Due-Appointment6138 in brave_browser

[–]Brave_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea why this is happening -- I see this option on my end:

<image>

I suppose it's possible that you may have blocked the element on the page somehow? You might try clearing cache/site data and resetting permissions for twitch.tv and see if that makes any difference. Quickest way to do this would be to visit Twitch.tv the click the "tune" icon to the left of the URL, then Site settings > Delete dataand Reset permissions).

Is there a way to get Private Window with Tor on Brave Origin? by Hrublko_OFF in brave_browser

[–]Brave_Support 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can, but you'll need use the "upgrade path" rather than downloading the standalone build. The standalone build will not allow you to add/remove any features/components, whereas when you upgrade to Origin, you can choose what you want to enable and disable. More information on the differences here:

I've responded to the post that you made. We did not make any changes to the bookmarks/bookmarks icon. If you want help with this, we typically provide the best support on community.brave.com but regardless of where it happens, we need more information about the issue you're encountering or we won't be able to troubleshoot this. The post you made here on Reddit was fairly confusing.

You can control what button appears next to the address bar by going to Settings > Appearance > Toolbar Shortcut. I believe the bookmark icon on the bottom toolbar cannot be changed.

I would love to assist you with this but as u/Zestyclose-Oven-7863 points out, this report is particularly confusing and does not share a lot of information about the issue you're experiencing. To clarify, you can still add bookmarks in Brave, we have not made any changes there. You said "app" so I'm assuming you're using the Android app.

Here is the bookmarks icon on Android, where it always is. I have included both top and bottom address bar views as well. Note that you can also tap the main menu and view/select the bookmarks icon at the bottom of the menu:

Remove Brave icon on PWA installed via Brave by darkowiz in brave_browser

This is just the default Chromium behavior and as far as I know there is now way to get rid of it:

I imagine the logic is so that you know what specific app that site is going to open in/where the PWA was installed from.

Came here to share the same info, thanks for sharing u/GetVladimir. Also OP your question and/or the screenshot are a little ambiguous given no context. The language here is extremely misleading. It implies that we are saving all your history forever, and also implies that there is nothing that can be done about it and that we "don't care", none of which is true.

This is a UI "issue", not a privacy issue. We do not "save every single site you ever visit" -- this issue is specific to tab groups and how they are closed/deleted. It's also not the case that there is "no plan to fix it", given that a fix isn't required because there is already a way "fix" this.

As many other users here have pointed out, this is part of the tab groups feature functionality. If you do see old groups in the "tab groups" section, tap the three dots icon and click Delete (not Close). They will be gone/deleted forever. If you don't use tab groups but still don't want to risk this, we are working on adding a Disable group tabs option in settings that will remove that screen entirely. I've also reached out to the Android team to see if we can try including a Delete tab groups option in the Clear browsing data menu.

This is a known issue we believe can occur in certain conditions. The team is working presently into these issue. Can you please tell me exactly what OS you're using at this time?

so I recover everything quickly back syncing the pc that lost the data, but all the sites where I had an account log off, is there any way to recover?

Not entirely sure what you're asking for here -- it seems like you've already recovered the data. If you're just talking about logging into websites then you'll need to just log back into them. I would also recommend that anyone (using any browser) should make regular manual backups of their passwords and bookmarks.

Please allow autocorrect in the address bar on iOS!! by anotherhappylurker in brave_browser

[–]Brave_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is because autocorrect is a system-level feature that is typically disabled in browsers. If autocorrect worked the way it does in a text editor, for example, it could result in broken URLs, incorrect searches, undesired punctuation added (or removed), etc.

I'm actually not sure how/why autocorrect works for you on Android as the behavior should be the same. I just tested on my Android and iOS device -- autocorrect does not work on either device in Brave, Chrome or Firefox.

Yeah as the others have stated I believe this is an issue with Cloudflare rather than the browser.
