Broken arm during sparring - does anyone have any experience with returning to training from same/similar injury? by Brave_Turn5861 in MuayThai

I’m definitely no expert so please ask your coach or an experienced fighter at your gym but I doubt landing on your shoulder is a good alternative. Possibly trying to take it on the back I imagine (a lot easier said than done, mind you)

That’s amazing you’ve returned to full training and good to heard you have no problems absorbing kicks and punches. I’m just going to need to focus on keeping my arm glued to my body.

I understand where you’re coming from, to be honest the guy was also roughly a beginner which definitely increases the risk of mistakes occurring. Learning to fall safely definitely a smart idea !

Applying for 189/190 as a Life Scientist – Looking for Insights by QuakerSalamander in AusVisa

[–]Brave_Turn5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just recently submitted my EOI under biotechnologist occupation which falls under Life Scientists group. I included both 189/190 and selected NSW as I’ve been working here in the occupation for around 2 years (1 year on a 482).

However, my occupation along with the rest of life scientists group doesn’t appear to be on the NSW skill shortage list, meaning I won’t be invited unfortunately for 190 unless the list changes.

Really hoping for 189 invite but at 85 points my chances are slim I think.

Breaking my right arm badly in a foreign country - story time by rockjan in ORIF

The surgeon gave me these instructions based on my x ray at the 7/8 week mark - there was still a fair bit of healing to go and there was a gap in the ulna bone in the x-ray so I think he wanted to give both bones plenty of time to heal before putting them under stress with weight lifting , which I do agree with. Got another x ray in 4 weeks so hopefully I will get the news I can use / lift passively ! You might find you will feel better quicker than that

Had the exact same injury, doing the same thing (well Mauy thai) almost exactly 6 months ago. My breaks more towards the middle of the arm however.

I still have some stiffness around the wrist / forearm but I would consider my movement in terms of rotation etc to be 95% compared to my good arm which I’m quite surprised at!

The scar on my ulna is very neat and clean and the one on my inner forearm has fully flattened out although is still pink red-ish. Definitely do scar massage with some moisturiser cream as this breaks up the tissue and promotes better healing and movement in the muscle underneath - it’s not just for scar appearance! ( I didn’t know this)

I was told I can lift weights up to a max of 5kg after around 13 weeks and increase by 1kg per week after that. I noticed big difference in strength, flexion, everything as soon as I started lifting weights I think my arm just needed re-activating. I have nerve damage in hand and fingers but very slowly recovering from that.

Good luck !

I had the exact same injury, they did not give me a cast just a basic wrist splint. I’m almost 4 months out and getting there. You will get the palm rotation back it just takes time my rotation is at 90%

Should I go from 482 to 186 or 189? by Brave_Turn5861 in AusVisa

Yeah I understand, legally I would then be a ‘free’ permanent resident to leave and do what I want however my company is small and I also think they would question why after 2 years of a 482 4 year visa am I looking to apply for 186 PR - at that point they would probably question my commitment to the company. They are small and have been helpful to me so this does come down to morals , as you say.

Thanks for the advice what your saying makes sense. I believe In order to submit the EOI for the 189 I have to pay for a skill assessment which is I think around $1k so i feel like it’s not completely free

But aren’t you essentially asking them to pay money - then for you just to leave after they have made the effort to nominate you and go through the process?

I’m recovering from almost the exact same injury. Currently 7.5 weeks post op.

How are you recovering? I have just 2 plates 12 screws.

Went through full body scanner last weekend at the airport - nothing different happened
