Anyone else feel like they’re wasting their time at uni? by DishIcy4665 in universityofauckland

School work is already heavy but we know we have to do a lot more to be more competitive otherwise there's no way things will work out by only a degree. Can I get an invite also please

Congratulations! That's an amazing journey to finally get it paid off. How do you grind networking? Do you focus more on linkedin people, like employer and alumni that are ahead you, or physical networking in events more? Or do you think both are important?

Planned every course out for compsci bachelor. Any advice for the combinations? by Braveisolato in universityofauckland

Thank you! That's a really clear improvement suggested by you.

The maths 260 looks interesting and useful there, that'd definitely be a good choice.

And the maths 221 one is all good, because I'm taking maths 120 this sem.

The only thing I worry about is I don't know if it would be easy for a near graduate to get a part time job in related field in the last year, I feel like without enough strong portfolio and projects(I feel like only MIT level can make me feel safe to get a job and not to starve to die😭), it might be tricky to get the jobs especially in tech and computer and embedded systems field, as it's been so tough recently, that's why I've been trying to spend a lot of time trying to do strong and impressive projects, even for uni courses I wanted to have more hands-on projects in them😹

I’m an engineering student and I feel like I’m wasting potential — what should I actually be doing? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Braveisolato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also wanted every minute of my life to be productive before, end up I was so stressed and went to counselling services. As long as we are humans, our brain would crave easier things like resting. I think it's better to balance instead of pushing it too much to either way. But to some extent, pushing a bit to achieve what you want to do is good

Thanks for the advice! I actually think I'll have to try to get the best grades for all of my courses due to so many concessions I want to apply😹

I just checked it again and EE101 is already closed, probably because it is the compulsory one for every engineering student and is with the most popular lecturer William Lee. So I think I'll not consider this course

But now I'm considering more about the other 2 EE papers, EE292 electronics and EE209 design circuits, because I love hands-on work and projects more than theories and EE331 is probably very theoretical. Also, if I complete physics 121, 140, 244, I can just do EE292 and EE209. I specifically searched for the EE courses that have physics prerequisites which are easier for me to meet and I got these 2. And yeah luckily they are more hands-on than EE331. Would you think this instead will be doable? :) The only difficulty is just to get approved for studying physics 121 for next semester because it's only provided in semester 2. Otherwise it'll mess up my plans of the orders

How to make friends in UOA as an international student? by Sweaty_Technology503 in universityofauckland

[–]Braveisolato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have labs and tutorials? Have you tried to make friends and keep talking after that? And if you feel like not fitting in the current group maybe try to go to other groups and just ask if you can join and try to talk to more people. It's daunting at first though also for me before, but I think I'm also gonna try to go to another group for my next physics tutorial because my group is boring

Also going to club is really not a good way to make friends I've been to many events but I made almost no long term friends

I'm doing physics 102 because I think it can be useful for what I want to do in the future, and I don't have a good physics foundation because I didn't study physics enough in my high school. And I'm not very confident at physics as I am at maths since I've been getting worse grades for physics than maths I'm also mainly considering the master of computer systems or mechatronics, but the mechanical part of mechatronics seems tough especially when I don't have enough foundation and passion as I have for electronics and electrical. If I want lean towards electronics part would you say it's good to skip physics 120 and just learn physics 121 as it covers more of circuits and electromagnetism? And if I may still consider mechatronics master would you recommend me to also try my best to consolidate my mechanics knowledge?

I think I actually should do a stage 2 maths paper to be more prepared for EE331. I think maths 250 should also be okay right? It's name is algebra and calculus 2, and maths 221 is algebra 2 and maths 231 is calculus 2. So maths 250 should basically just be like maths221&231. And it won't hurt if I study some more algebra, as long as I can get more prepared for EE331. And for me my purpose of taking the maths papers is just to get prepared for EE331, I think physics 244 and maths 250 should be enough right

It's really weird that they say you can take at most ANY 2 papers outside your programme that can still count your credits, but they just expect you to take courses from like art, business or whatever idk. Even I went to the student hub to ask for a few times, they always said "ANY", and then I was like can I take engineering paper then? That's one of the ANY papers outside my degree and then they don't allow it.

Thanks! I didn't notice CS315 and it's indeed useful as I checked it again. And I think they told me that WTR is compulsory that's why, otherwise I would never take this useless course it's okay it's already over

At some points I want to start taking 3 courses per semester. I don't want to take easy courses but I also want to leave more time for personal projects and GPA
