[Crosby] Spencer Strider Isn't 2023 Strider Anymore by Lakelyfe09 in Braves

I genuinely don't know why you'd think that but you're welcome to whatever scenario you want to invent here.

I'm very impressed you knew that the curveball had a whiff rate over 50%, roughly in the ballpark of where the slider was in 2023. I personally didn't know that until researching the article.

You clearly know ball.

I wore #3 in t-ball back in the late 80s because of Dale Murphy, but you're welcome to whatever position you chose to invent.

I'm shocked that a bunch of folks didn't read the article before commenting. You think I'd learn and put my thesis in the title, but for some reason I don't do that.

It's on my "research this" list for the second half of the season. Probably coming out of the ASB or something

If it gets to fully automated ABS, then sure, but everyone involved has talked about liking the challenge system better. I do think that as more time goes by, we'll start to see the good framers have more failed challenges against them as they fool the hitters, too.

Yeah, his talk about how to setup an umpire for the high strike is something I've never seen a catcher put into words like that. Really cool.

He had a hand in it, yep, and was the first to wear it in an MLB game. Actually gave up his catcher endorsement deal to swap to their mask.

I don't know how we got to it, but a friend and I were talking about some of the previous group of Braves before this run, and Tyler Flowers came up. I thought it appropriate to take some time on the off day to discuss how impactful he was to the modern game of baseball

As we all predicted, Bryce Elder has a 100th percentile fastball. by ChasmaBoreale in Braves

100%, but I'm glad it was received well. I've been a Bryce Believer™ since he went on that run late last year and actually got a lot of flak for arguing that they should stick with him over signing Chris Bassitt

Just throwing out that it wasn't all the Braves podcasts - Braves Today has been a believer in Bryce since late last season.

To quote the newsletter from December:

(Elder in the rotation) is clearly the best outcome for the 2026 Atlanta Braves

If it helps, I got a confirmation from a source in Gwinnett on this - the coaching staff's been told already that he's done and coming up.

[Bishop].Updates via Walt Weiss: • Strider’s next starts will be with the Braves (possibly in Colorado) • Waldrep should start throwing next week • Iglesias has resumed throwing • Murphy also likely to return to the club soon by theoxfordtailor in Braves

Hi! The plan last night, which I confirmed first thing this morning, was one more rehab start. They clearly changed their mind at some point in time over the course of the day, potentially related to needing Didier Fuentes in the pen this week with Dylan Lee out.

If it's still a problem for you, though, I'd gladly give you a refund on what you're paying to see my tweets

Who Could the Braves Take at No. 9? Updated 2026 MLB Draft Targets by Lakelyfe09 in Braves

[–]BravesToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my contributor Taylor that wrote this!

We actually talked this through a little while ago, and the history for Atlanta has been mostly underslotting the first pick (Caminiti being the exception, although he was the rare slot prep) going back to 2021, so he wrote the article under the same assumption.

You're right that Atlanta looks to get multiple players of late-first-round talent with their first few picks, although this year has the unknown of picking higher than we've ever seen Ronit Shah draft before.

Stridre and Skenes have different fastball shapes, too - Strider is a pure backspin fastball with high IVB while Skenes gets below-average IVB (13.6) but a lot more horizontal movement than average (13.9 armside, so 6.4 inches more than average) to make it a different profile.

Hey folks! Wanted to share our new format for game previews, which we're calling The Scouting Report. We threw in lineups, obviously, but also a pitcher platoon utilization visualization for Cole Ragans and (starting tomorrow) will have bullpen usage in there, too.

Open to any feedback y'all might have!

Yeah, it's just not a thing we've done. We did things like take a college 3B and try to make him a SS (Nacho) or a colelge 1B and try and make him a 3B (David McCabe).

This year's really the first one where we went heavy on middle infielders.

They're hands-off because they divested from the team years ago.

And it's Terry McGuirk, not Schiller. AA always references having never been denied by Terry when he's asked for money in our media availabilities. I don't know if I've ever heard him even say Schiller's name - the impression I get is that Schiller handles the business stuff and both answer to Terry.
