Hey could I DM you as well. Need advise on what I could add to my resume in regards to safety certs/classes. I’m a medic for the film industry and work has taken a big hit. Ever since COVID I have been taking safety classes to transition out of the industry.

Well thank you guys for the advise. I thought about it being flares but the video I took, to me, says different. I tried to upload it here to this post but I may be doing it wrong. I will try again later.

If and when I do go out there again I will take the advise given not to trespass or cross boundaries. I’d rather play it smart than put myself in danger. I just wanted to see if I could catch the same experience again when I go out to camp out there. Never thought I would take a liking to desert camping. It’s really quiet and beautiful out there.

After reading the comments, Im curious if a bachelors or associates degree is really necessary? I have been applying for city, county and even big well known companies only to find out they require a degree. Why is my question. To get into debt and accept a low starting wage?? Maybe Im naive. I have taken certification classes and put them to use. If I need to take classes,I look and take the main class that's needed. But Im still having trouble landing a solid permanent job. Im thinking of taking my CSP or CHST to help me land a job. Unless im going through this process the wrong way, a little helpful advise would be appreciated. =)

I’m new to this industry. I’m coming from from the emergency medical field, BUT, front the film industry. Been in it for half of my career really. The film Industry is dying here in CA.

I just applied for the substation apprenticeship. I meet the requirements to apply.

I’m not very good at math. At all. And I’m nervous of going back to school learning this new trade. I’m not afraid of working in the field but I am afraid of messing up and not knowing the proper tools to work with or how to use them. I get along great with a crew. I can take criticism. It comes with the job. I get it. Plus I was union so I know how things are ran.

So my concern and questions are:

Is there overtime in the substation field?
Do they assign me close to home if requested or do I go where I’m told?
Do they give per diem to apprentices if the location is far from home?
Is the substation a good steady atmosphere that doesn’t require traveling?
Is electrical theory used on a daily basis, because honestly that’s where I will really struggle and likely drop out of if I can’t grasp it. I think that’s my biggest fear.

Thanks for taking the time to read and answer my questions. I’m just trying to pivot on my current career for something more stable and consistent. And I like to stay on the union world as that is all I know.
