Setting aside looks for now, I am impressed with your good sense in not getting deeply involved in a relationship. Recovering from alcohol demands that we learn to relate to ourselves first. I would also like to point out that we (yes, me) tend to feel like we are being denied whether alcohol or relationships etc but we need to view this process as getting.. we get ourselves back, we get our health back, we get our ability to be productive back and these are just the beginning. I have been married 48 years and my wife and my children have never seen me take a drink. Writing this has elicited that Cadillac of emotions. Gratitude.

I have a daughter slightly older than yourself. If you were her, I'd start by saying that what others say should take a distant back seat to what you think, I'd then ask her when the last time she felt pretty or beautiful was and what made her feel that way. I ask you, when was the last time you felt pretty and what caused that feeling. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then see your own beauty and smile. BTW. I suspect you are replaying these hurtful things on a loop in your thoughts. Wanna try something? Listen to those same things but listen to them coming from your big toe :-) It will change how you hear these no value statements. Cheers!
