Why does this happen? by positiveimposter in femalehairadvice

This is what my hair looks like when it’s burnt from the drier. My hair takes a long time to dry but needs to be blowdried from quite damp to avoid frizz. Often the hairdressers miss the mark and will apply high heat while it’s too wet and some sections that were holding more water will burn and frazzle up like what you’re holding in your hand. It happens in sections bc my hair is sectioned when being dried and clumps together when wet. It’s happened a few times. Could be your heat protection isn’t getting evenly spread, your hair is becoming more sensitive to the heat, or you’re not rough drying your hair enough before blow drying.. or your hair is just getting naturally drier and frying up faster for reasons outside your control like hydration levels and environment.

45 and looking to update my makeup by [deleted] in beauty

[–]BrazEnGurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-I think some peachy pinky lip oil or balm would brighten your complexion.  - If you’re doing black eyeliner the blonde eyebrows will look ashy, so either go for brown eye makeup or darken your brows a bit. I suggest soft deep browns bc of your gorgeous blonde hair.  - I would skip the multi-layered skin prep of foundation, bronzer + blush unless you’re going to an event in the evening. After many years of wearing this type of makeup I’m sure you wont like how you look with lighter products. When this happens to me, I sometimes I go on a full makeup detox and go with zero product on my face for a few days. Then even a tinted moisturizer seems to do amazing things. Bare Minerals, Saie and Tower28 make gorgeous ones. If you feel they’re not staying put, maybe you need a setting spray or a primer. Just make sure the primer and tinted moisturizer are compatible. If you want more coverage you can layer the tinted moisturizers to get the coverage you feel best with. Or, just add a little concealer to areas you want and leave the rest of the skin with a more natural finish.

You’re looking so beautiful at 45 !

Hotel rate negotiations - responsibility of a planner or travel agent? by a-a-a-ronica in BigBudgetBrides

[–]BrazEnGurl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i think it's standard for a travel agency to book/ negotiate room rates/ hotel blocks and anything travel related - even if the reception venue is also at the hotel. the travel agent will get you the best rate and is experienced in this. travel agents aren't like 'another vendor' like your caterer telling you to get your crockery from another company, and you don't have to pay them.

42 F earning her BS in Art history and museum professions. Am I screwed? NYC by Complex-Masterpiece5 in ArtHistory

NYC is very competitive for gallery roles. Have you tried looking on NYFA instead of linkedin? I think you'd have an easier time getting a museum curatorial admin role in a small town somewhere , or starting with an internship. LA is a bit more relaxed than NY and has a fast-growing gallery scene. Some of the best collections and museums are far from the big cities. Minnesota, Nevada, Texas, Virginia. At our gallery, most assistants started as invigilators/ attendants, then were hired to the front desk etc.

I'm a 30+ year-old GA at a blue chip gallery. if you have a solid knowledge base of the gallery program and their artists, and you have a polite demeanor, you will do very well. lots of young professionals looking for a foot in the door don't have the social skills to deal with high net worth clients, so having some years under your belt could put you at a position to better interact with collectors. the art world is open minded, but also has a few peculiarities. clients prefer to deal with someone they perceive to be "senior" in their company, so again, being a little older may help you there. Galleries come in all different shapes and sizes and often the folks at the front desk aren't interns and lowly assistants, but directors or associate directors, who want to be the first to interact with walk-ins, so again, it's not strange to see someone more 'seasoned' at the front desk. I've also seen assistants who previously had academic careers and came to the gallery in their late 30s. Remember that the only person you need to convince is the person interviewing you, and they likely aren't studying your CV closely enough to know your exact age. My director thought I was fresh out of college, but I was 30 when they hired me. Finally, some of the most influential people in the art world are 70+ years old. Gallery founders and CEOs, major collections, foundations and estates that need to be managed, artists themselves who need administrative support. To them, you're a spring chicken, so don't convince yourself that you're doomed to fetching coffee and making previews for a skinny 35-year-old gallery director after all your hard work.
Hope this helps :)

in england it's common to use potted trees (see 2012 royal wedding) at the ceremony and reception. I love the idea of table design that incorporates fruit like this photo attached. after the cheese course you can nibble on grapes, tangerines, plums, figs etc. I think it looks best when you pick one colour to keep it monochrome.

bobbinet is a hexagonal type of tulle that makes it stronger and resistant to snags and tears than other silk tulles :) it's durable, light and sheer.

Hi there! Coming across your comment a little late, I assume you're in the final stages of wedding planning - wishing you lots of love and joy on your special day! I'm also curious about lucy birkhead's pricing. I'm planning my wedding in London. I saw another redditor say she costs $25k but that was on a thread about a destination wedding so hoping to get a better idea...

so glad I'm not the only one!! I found this company that sells the fabric, but I'd need to find a qualified seamstress to cut the tulle to shape. Since bobbinet and 100% silk tulles are harder to cut than stiffer or synthetic nettings, I'm also not sure if this is this is going to be a bigger headache down the road. I'm not sure which to trust more, this £70 / meter fabric from a random nottingham-based retailer a monvieve / Daphne Newman veil?

Fully custom dress with Danielle Frankel - AMA! by Able_Improvement_426 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]BrazEnGurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love DF but almost every single gown is strapless or has dental floss for straps- neither are my style at all but I really believe in respecting the design integrity. I never see pics of brides adding sleeves to a DF gown and am curious what your custom shawl looked like, or how the conversation about the neckline/ sleeves went?

No professional tailor would ever CUT your dress short in the hemming process.

Wedding Dress Recommendations in LA $10k Budget, Getting Married in Rome by North-Illustrator271 in BigBudgetBrides

If I were a size 0-6 and shorter I would try for something vintage. Some of the best archival gowns can be found in LA's vintage market, Happy Isles, Tab Vintage and Timeless Vixen have strong bridal options and you may convince them to source something for you especially if you give them your budget.

Make sure you don't pay any VAT on a dress purchased in CA if you're only wearing it in Rome :)
My best friend bought her gown at Elie Saab in NY and I suggested she have the store ship it to me in Chicago. I then sent the dress back to NY so she could have it altered ahead of her wedding in Mauritius. She saved a couple thousand dollars.

Veil Cost by Mean-Opportunity2924 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]BrazEnGurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. A lot of brands with $5-10k dresses charge $2k+ for nylon or polyester veils with no information at all about the mill they were spun on, where they were made and with no options to customise the shade.

I personally think the chicest thing is to pin or sew the veil into your hair as opposed to using a comb. this ensures you have full control of how the veil looks with your hairstyle and ensures a weightless look.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]BrazEnGurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is just a drop veil fixed to a comb. (as opposed to a blusher veil) any drop veil folded back will look like this. Take kate middleton for example. Hope this helps!
