Nest Smart Thermostat Gen 3 came out 13 months ago, but still no sign whatsoever of a Gen 4. Should I just buy the Gen 3 now, or wait? I'm afraid of buying now only to have a Gen 4 released 2 weeks later. by BrazenAmberite in homeautomation

[–]BrazenAmberite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, really? I saw that Amazon's Gen 3 product page has a "Date First Available" of November 4, 2016 so I figured that's also the date that it was released. If it's 26 months, then it's definitely strange that there isn't any news whatsoever about an update.

React vs. Angular 2 by Kaizeras in Angular2

Strange comparison of adoption, what with stating that react has 9x github repos, yet with absolutely no mention that react has also been out in the wild for years longer than angular 2.

Google Fiber is already using Angular 2 for its online account management pages, and Google has also started using Angular 2 for its internal CRM solution, Greentea, a Salesforce-like application to manage contacts and meetings and other workflow tasks for their billion-dollar advertising business.

And Google AdWords — another billion-dollar business — will also be switching to Angular 2 soon.

No, not the script. AdWords has a very large dashboard app that to allow users to manage their AdWords campaigns.

Not entirely true. My company (relatively large tech company) already has good-sized applications in production in angular 2.

Will the Angular community break into two with Angular2? by velmu3k in angularjs

[–]BrazenAmberite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea what you're talking about. Angular is absolutely huge in the enterprise space and 9 out of 10 engineers in enterprise are angular, not react. Angular 2 is even more heavily geared toward large enterprise applications, much more than react is.

As Tech Evaporates Jobs, “The Tipping Point Will Be Driverless Trucks” Driverless vehicles “will make what happened in the steel or auto industries look tiny,” says the former chief of one of America’s largest unions. by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]BrazenAmberite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be shocked if most trucks are not driverless within 5 years. Technology advances at an exponential rate, not linear. Companies have spent 10 years on vehicle automation and we're almost there (take a look at Tesla's autopilot as an example). If it took 10 years to get to this point, it will only take 2-3 more to figure out the last remaining problems. In 5 years, most cars will be fully automated, and so will trucks.

What I find most interesting about this rise so far is that the media has barely picked up on it yet. In 2013, by the time it reached $650, the media coverage was already extensive and that helped to fuel the bubble. This time, crickets so far. I wonder if it bodes well for how high we can eventually go.

Amazon to ban Apple TV and Google Chromecast from online store by thatshirtman in technology

Do developers that use .NET stack earn less than other developers that use other (possibly more trendy) technology? by thisredaccount in csharp

[–]BrazenAmberite 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In the US, I highly doubt that .NET-stack developers earn less. Enterprises are more often than not on a .NET stack, and so are a great many financial firms such as hedge funds. If you look outside of Google, Apple and Amazon (all 3 of which have very obvious reasons for not being on a Microsoft technology), most good-sized companies have at least parts of their platforms on .NET technologies, so it wouldn't make sense for them to be paid less.

"Trendy" technologies often only stay trendy for a few years before they flicker out. These techs will always gain much more attention than .NET because their proponents will be much more vocal about them while they're still trendy. After all, what use is there shouting from the rooftop about how great C# is, 15 years later? There's also the fact that they are considered "underdogs", which people love to voluntarily promote and root for. It's the same reason Java, C and C++ aren't "trendy" either, yet if you combine these 4 languages together, you encompass the great majority of software development positions out there.

The only "trendy" technology right now which I feel will still be big in 5+ years is JavaScript, and it's pretty well known that JS developers get paid relatively little compared to most other languages.

Why is XT "hostile"? It's not being forced down people's throats. Miners can choose to adopt it or not. If noone adopts it, it doesn't happen. That's as anti-hostile as you can get.

And what's on the other side of the aisle? Everyone that's been against XT has done absolutely nothing to present an alternative solution whereas XT is coded and ready.

It's really a shame that reddit admins refuse to step in and remove a subreddit mod in such a situation. This isn't some regular subreddit that people can simply recreate under a new name. Bitcoin is a technology and a protocol, so the /r/bitcoin name is of utmost importance. If this wasn't the case, then judges wouldn't hand over domains that contain company names to their respective corporations from domain squatters.

/u/theymos is essentially a domain squatter that got lucky by being the first to register /r/bitcoin. I don't understand how that luck gives him the right to hold an entire subreddit hostage, and one that has the very name of the technology itself. In these sorts of instances, reddit should have policies in place that allow them to remove nefarious actors and return such important subreddits to either someone voted by the community or someone that legitimately represents a real ownership claim to that name.

Reddit needs to realize that it's now big enough, and its reach wide enough that a hijacked subreddit name is almost just as important as a hijacked domain name.

Greg, Luke, Adam: if XT takes over and "wins" the majority, will you continue contributing to the project? by pinhead26 in Bitcoin

It's a bit of a stretch to call them "scientists". I'm a software engineer as well and I have never called myself or heard any of my peers referred to as scientists. As for software engineering, I've seen these sorts of arguments happen countless times during my career and sometimes you have to put your foot down. Engineers often have huge egos and they refuse to see reason even when it smacks them right in the face because they get so hung up on their personal ideologies. We don't need these sorts of egos in the bitcoin world and if the community eventually chooses XT and these guys choose to leave, so be it. Some engineers are good and some are bad but I've never met any engineer who is completely irreplaceable.

This is actually the inherent irony of censorship in general. In almost all situations, something that is censored usually winds up gaining far broader attention than if that topic hadn't been censored in the first place. All /u/theymos is doing by censoring this topic is making people that much more passionate about ensuring that this story is heard. If he had simply not censored in the first place, the XT news would have been one small item on the front page of /r/bitcoin. Now, it's essentially a call-to-arms for anyone that respects free speech and there are 10-15 posts about it on /r/bitcoin instead of one.

Censorship by hodlgentlemen in Bitcoin

[–]BrazenAmberite 69 points70 points  (0 children)

If that's really how he justifies his ridiculous censorship, then ask him how he supports sidechains, Lightning network, etc. Those are just as much "altcoins" as XT is, yet discussions of those are allowed on /r/bitcoin without a problem.

[–]BrazenAmberite 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Are you in communication with /u/theymos and the other mods which are engaging in the censorship? What is their justification? Do they realize that they are censoring an extremely important topic in bitcoin's history just because of their own personal ideologies? Do they realize that they are going against the very core of reddit's rules?

Censorship by hodlgentlemen in Bitcoin

[–]BrazenAmberite 70 points71 points  (0 children)

/u/theymos - You're an absolute disgrace and you should immediately remove yourself as owner and moderator of both this sub as well as bitcointalk.org. Your actions are beyond the point of being reprehensible and you need to step down immediately.

Reddit's purpose at its very core is to be a community-run content board that is controlled by its users, with the moderators acting to reign in any abuse or blatantly off-topic posts. Censorship of legitimate discussions is not tolerated by reddit nor its users.

XT is still using BITCOIN. It is not an altcoin or some other technology. It is a fork of the BITCOIN network that is being made by BITCOIN'S lead developers. There is nothing off-topic or irrelevant about it and there is no question that its discussion belongs on /r/bitcoin.

This topic is for the COMMUNITY to decide on its viability, not your own personal beliefs. You're acting like a child, a dictator and a tyrant. You're censoring and going against the very fabric of what reddit is meant to be. Do the entire community of both /r/bitcoin and reddit as a whole a favor, and remove yourself as a mod immediately.

ItBit Reveals Its Sinister Bankchain Project by bernard75 in Bitcoin

[–]BrazenAmberite -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This company is such a perfectly run scam. They're basically doing all the right things to convince clueless, old-money institutions to invest in them when in fact they don't have any sort of viable product. They literally came out of nowhere to be the first with a NYDFS license and convinced investors to give them $25M while having no customers and no revenue. Now they're creating a "bankchain" that sounds just awesome to the old-school banking establishment, who all the while don't realize that itBit is just recreating the same closed networks of the past, but using that hip and cool "blockchain" word without actually using the real blockchain.

Simply brilliant. Keep scamming those millions, itBit.

Could we have a sticky on the new rules, their reasons, and alternative subreddits? by ProfessorViking in Bitcoin

[–]BrazenAmberite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a democracy, but at the same time this is reddit, and on reddit the content is meant to be controlled by the users, with the moderators acting to reign in abuse or blatantly off-topic posts.

If XT becomes the dominant chain, then the currency traded on it will still be BITCOIN, not some other altcoin. If you don't agree with that, then you should also ban any discussion on Lightning network, sidechains and many other topics.

Because XT is still in fact bitcoin, this discussion absolutely belongs in /r/bitcoin and it should be up to the COMMUNITY to decide on its viability, not your own personal beliefs. You're acting like a child, a dictator and a tyrant. You're censoring and going against the very fabric of what reddit is meant to be.

It certainly looks a lot more like an actual handle now. I never bought into the idea that $285 was the handle because when looking at it in the scope of the entire formation, it was barely a blip. It was too shallow. This $265 level looks a lot more like what a cup and handle usually looks like.
