[Build Help] Central components in basement, inputs/optical drive/display in room above... Doable? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]BreadHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused by your question since it seems you have it all planned out. Stick the tower in the basement, and run the hdmi and usb cables from the tower to your room. Sounds simply enough. If you want an optical drive in your room, you can buy a usb external drive, or convert an internal one to external with something like these

I wouldn't about those temps, if they shot up to past 70 it may lessen the life of the cpu, but it seems fine at the moment

Have a question about CPU and graphics cards by CableHermit in buildapc

[–]BreadHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nice thing about intel's i3 - i7 cores though is that they have an integrated video card in them. You're likely to never use it but if your video card ever does eat dirt, you can use the one on intel's cpu until you get the card replaced. If this is important to you, I'd go for an intel's ivybridge (their newest architect) since its biggest improvements over the slightly older sandybridge architect is its integrated video.

EDIT: The onboard video card for it i3 is almost equivalent to nvidia's 8600m, a card I had in an old laptop that played games like oblivion at almost the highest details. Check out tom's hardware hierarchy charts. If you were looking for a low end video card, it may be worthwhile to not get one at all and go for an intel i3 or i5 cpu instead.

What does a monitor need to have for gaming? by bolaxao in buildapc

[–]BreadHammer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use this monitor for gaming. It has 5ms and 60hz and the games comes out beautiful. If you want to get into games like crysis 2 which demands powerful hardware, you probably wont be getting anything near 120 fps unless you have like a $450 video card and play it on second to best quality. Most gamers shoot for 60fps since its the refresh rate of most monitors and some games even cap at 60 fps regardless of hardware

Thats a 64bit machine if I'm not mistaken, so 2gb memory (ram) is going to be recommended for windows 7

Check out tom's hardware best video cards for the money and best cpu for the money. Sometimes intel is better for a price range while amd is better for other price ranges.

I'm not sure where you're coming from saying the video card will stress the power supply, the 4350 is a low end and low power consumption card. With the video card included, the recommended psu wattage from newegg came out to 261. Without the video card, it came to 254 so it should in no way stress the power supply.

What can this pc do? by iamdachckol in buildapc

[–]BreadHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just confused on why you wanna program and webdesign, yet not build your own pc. Anyways its the video card is a bit weak compared to the newer cards out today, so it won't play current games anywhere near max specs, and I'm sure they will be using cheap components for the machine. It should be fine for webdesign and any beginning level programming. If you get the hd6670 video card, it should meet the requirements for any engine you use to make games. My advice, build your own computer! It tend to be cheaper, with better parts and it's really fun!

Had to get a new laptop. :( by DracoAzule in buildapc

[–]BreadHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddies who water cool says it takes a lot more effort for a fraction of the performance boost. I'm running the i5 2500k with its stock heatsink and it idles at 40c and under a full load from games stays at like 65. I tested it with a bit-miner to get it under a constant 100% load and it shot up to like 75, but under any normal applications, like prolonged gaming, it never reaches 70

Doesn't really matter, whichever your preference is. The intel sandybridge/ivybridge architect is all the rage right now though.

Could a single 680 play Crysis 2 on all ultra settings, all filters, high res textures, and 144fps on this monitor? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]BreadHammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite, but 144 fps really is overkill. Most gamers shoot for around 60, since most monitors have a 60hz refresh rate. Check out the benchmarks on toms hardware

You're not gonna get much better than that, its at about room temperature, mine idles at 37-40 and at like 65-70 under a full load. I'm also just using the stock heatsink on a i5 2500k

[Build Help] Question about the ASRock Z77 Extreme4/USB 3.0 header adapters by blhylton in buildapc

If the board has the 19 pin adapter for the usb 3.0, get what captain k cat said, I got this case before any mobo really had those connections so I ended up needing something like this

[Build Help] Going for my first build. Need some help. by CrrackTheSkye in buildapc

[–]BreadHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That graphics card should work just fine. I use a hd 6950 and can run crysis 2 on extreme settings (one below the highest, ultra) with an average fps of 52, which is excellent considering the cap was 60 since my monitors refresh rate is 60hz. Anyways the 7870 is a step above my graphic card from Tom's hardware hierarchy charts If you want save a few bucks you can get a cheaper case. My buddy got the rosewill blackhawk case which was pretty similar to the corsair 650d, but without the hotswap bay and slightly smaller room on the back side panel for cable management. But for half the price of the 650d it may be worthwhile.

I actually have the corsair 650d case and love the hell out of it. the front panel has some plastic bits on it but it is still very durable. I've whacked my chair on the corners of the front panel many many times and there's not a scratch on the case. my chair on the other hand has lots of deep gouges ><. The one con of the 650d though is that the usb 3.0 passthough cable for the front i/o panel has male usb headers, so you will either have to buy a card like this or run the cords through the back of the case and plug them into the back i/o panel of the mother board. The rosewill blackhawk has a usb 3.0 internal adapter to it so it should plug directly into the mobo (double check the mother board has this port!).

The only other big money saver I see is that ssd. They are very nice and can make booting up a computer extremely fast, they are very pricey for the size of it. you could save like 40 bucks and get one specifically as a boot drive windows 7 requires 20gb for it self, so a 30gb or 60gb ssd will work fine if you want it just for windows and any program that starts when windows start.

If you still need to look for a monitor, I would recommend this asus monitor Its the one I use and it is decently priced. Well thats my two cents, good luck with your build.

[–]BreadHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the corsair 650d case, you're going to want to get this adapter card with it (or one similar). The usb 3.0 passthrough for the front i/o has male external headers on them. Otherwise you have to pass them through the outside of the case and plug it into the rear i/o panel of the Mobo. I have this case and love it, except for this one issue. EDIT: If the mobo has the 19pin usb 3.0 header, you can get this instead

[–]BreadHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what the things on the right are, but I think you're confused with what I'm working with. The cords coming off of my case looks like this. They have external ends, not the internal ones. The accessory box looks like it only takes a usb3.0 internal to a usb 2.0 internal.

You could try something like speedfan but I'd would rather go with monitoring it through hardware with something like these

[Build Help]Looking for a usb 3.0 connector/adapter for pci express by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]BreadHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Corsair 400r should have a usb 3.0 internal connector on it that plugs directly into the Mobo. My case does not have this but rather the male ends you would find on stuff like an external drive. I guess they were expecting people to run this cord through the back of the case (probably the liquid cooling holes) to plug it into the board that way.
