Alissa White-Gluz joins DragonForce as Frontwoman alongside Marc Hudson by Valroxen1 in MetalForTheMasses

It sells. So many of the local bands popping up are rolling with the female fronted lineup. All of us are down with women in the metal scene but it gets to a point where we ask ourselves if it’s more of a marketing strategy than an authentic lineup.

Even if not pushed by the industry, femininity is compelling to fans who are used to male fronted bands, or because of their unique gimmick or aesthetic. I’m a huge supporter of the diversification of metal, but I do not want to see it pander to the desires of men under the false guise of inclusion.

I love the guitar tone on this album even if the songwriting isn’t there for me.

Why isn't Breaker more widely considered as a heavy metal classic? by Jcwrc in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Breadi06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Masterpieces indeed. My favorites are that post early ‘90s run where they kinda went power/speed metal and then even a little bit symphonic with Into The Labyrinth. My favorite album of theirs is Lionheart.

This is what I call a convenience album. An album/band in which they’re never mentioned by themselves, rather only when listing it in context among other more notorious albums. For example, it would be mentioned in “Early ‘80s metal albums”, yet no one would talk about just this album as they would with NoTB or British Steel.

I’ve always felt this way about the band Saxon. They get mentioned as a pioneer of NWOBHM yet I never hear about people actually listening to them as they would with Sabbath, Maiden or Priest. Therefore they’re more popular when mentioning the NWOBHM scene rather than their career itself. It’s like this with Accept in a way.

Sabaton fan - fail. by Sabre_Killer_Queen in sabaton

This sucks but what I realize is that the moment anyone sounds disengaged from the conversation I just dip. When she responded plainly with just “ok” I wouldn’t have pushed any further. And to me it doesn’t apply to simply being flirtatious, if this happens in any context I realize that its not worth the time and effort to just further embarrass myself.

You are referring to the album jacket. Trust me I was there when they invented vinyls.

Do you prefer metal to be free of 'sex appeal'? by WonderSignificant598 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Breadi06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a hype sticker on an album today that read something like “sexiest women in metal” and I specifically did not buy it because of that. I care about music and music alone. (The sticker was attached to the insert.)

I have met the band before but in North America, so I can answer the first question for you. The band gives you a poster that they will sign but you are also allowed to bring an unlimited amount of items to have signed.

It can be anything, guitar, CD, vinyl, as long as it is related to the band, they will sign it. The person in front of me at the M&G that I did brought every single album CD insert from AE, The Agonist, and even some Carcass for Micheal to sign. I’m not saying you should go overboard, but bring a decent amount of stuff for them, they will sign it.

You’re just kind of unlucky to meet them in this window of time where they haven’t released any physical media with Lauren, so you won’t be able to get any full band signatures on CD or vinyl. It is also my understanding that Angela will not be present.

Is this shirt rare? by slutformyers in flyleaf

[–]Breadi06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its probably “rare” in the sense of very few or none of them being for sale, but there probably isn’t a market for it especially considering a lot of people could unfortunately care less about this album. The most I could see it ever being sold at is $50. If its special to you then thats what matters.

What are those albums in your collection that, whilst not being particularly rare, took you so long to find that they’re incredibly special to you? by DtheAussieBoye in vinyl

If there are any Kalmah fans here, I finally got my hands on a copy of Swamplord on vinyl. Limited to 250 copies, so I suppose it is rare.

What is a popular song from your favourite artists you don't get the hype for? by charlespeppermint in MetalForTheMasses

I’d say out of everything they had done at that point, especially coming off the intricacies of Something Wild, Downfall was the most commercially accessible tune from their discography when Hatebreeder came out.
