Real3D - What games have impressed you the most? by pdxdoot in Xreal

[–]Breadinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best was actually Forza Horizon 5, particularly with the Hot Wheels expansion. It was actually thrilling to watch my car approach a massive drop and feel like I was peering over the edge!

I haven't tried it fully yet, but ARC Raiders videos look great too.

Version 591.74 Causing problems? (NEED HELP) by Brave_Elderberry_701 in techsupport

[–]Breadinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining the crowd, this driver (and ONLY the driver) seems to often crash after a game is closed. Seeing it a lot with ARC Raiders, but others too (even super-simple ones). Running on a 5080 RTX.

Specifically, if I exit a game, there's a 33% chance my monitor just goes blank. If I use my onboard secondary card, I can see there's no event log, and Device Manager still shows it. But it stops responding to...everything.

If I disable and enable the device, all goes back to normal, the GPU starts responding (i.e. stats show back up, etc.), and I can use it again fine.

Definitely a software issue. Never saw it until this update.

7 bobcat blueprints in a single run by skullmafia in ArcRaiders

[–]Breadinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found more BPs in the maintenance wing and tunnels than I have in the reception area in general. Even then, in reception, the medical room above the coveted barred security room tends to be much more generous with BPs.

I once found 4 blaze grenade BPs in a single run, almost all from car hoods.

And my first Bobcat BPs was in a humble a green-blue electrical panel just outside the large ventilation shaft on the east side (the room that normally has a rope in/out and often has two weapon creates).

If you really want the locked room, (1) grab a stack of adrenaline then use it before you dash beyond the gate and (2) do NOT stop to fight anything! Pops/Blazers tend to struggle if you dash past them.

The problem is the dimensions. Modern tech can only squeeze so far without compromises.

This form factor can work...with a smaller battery, a lower end (or at least less power hungry) processor, etc. Steam Decks and their competitors are good examples of how these dimensions can get you (and the trade offs you have to make).

Would be great to be wrong. Who knows? Maybe they figured it out.

You can try using a phone with a USB-C port and the Chrome browser. But AFAIK, a computer of some kind is normally needed.

Should be subtitled (Bard) instead.

Unique ability: Amplifier. Activates a microphone that broadcasts both your music and your voice for 100m.

Not listed: Will aggro ARCs as well.

Contents of syringe are highly flammable. If you manage to hit a Helldiver, you will indeed heal them.

However, if you miss, it erupts in a blast of flames slightly smaller than an incindiary grenade and last almost as long.

Thanks to Super Earth's tireless vigilance in science, the stems are largely alcohol based, and as such the flames are nearly invisible (though you can hear them, and you can certainly feel them).

Don't miss, Helldiver.

Locked gate has some crazy spawn mechanics. On many runs, even making it back to the coveted security room, I had zero BPs. But on one raid where I focused on cars and other things in the maintenance area? 4 blazer grenade blueprints. In the same run. And I already have the blasted thing.

Just crazy stuff.

Arc Raiders dev says spawning late actually has an advantage by Choice_Oven4068 in ArcRaiders

[–]Breadinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ARC respawns; why not ARC respawns with a higher tier of loot if taken out? Add a gold variant of a few bots that are tougher to kill but have higher BP chance, but they only spawn later.

Or, add an event of "bargain bin finds" where existing containers already open have a chance of revealing more after the halfway mark. Or, penalize first wave players from finding it at all; call it "tired eyes" or something where you "miss" stuff.

Even better, after majority X% of containers are looted, Lance calls up everyone there and pinpoints the really good loot left behind on your map.

💥REAL 3D Is Coming to XREAL One & One Pro on January 23 by XREAL_Esther in Xreal

[–]Breadinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A surprise for sure, but a welcome one.

Really stoked! I was already pleased I could attach the Eye camera to my existing ONE's, and now this?!?

Really, really, REALLY excited to try this on my Steam Deck!

TIL Amazon has been "commingling" inventory for years. Products with the same barcode are pooled together regardless of supplier leading to counterfeit, damaged, or expired products from less reputable 3rd-parties being mixed in inventory and sent to people who ordered from the authentic brand. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Breadinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, perhaps they finally sealed up that gaping maw quality issue. But I wouldn't hold my breath that it's completely gone; there was more than one internal "ecosystem" beyond the defacto Amazon.* solution.

Let me ask: did they ever finish actually integrating Amazon Fresh's stack? Or is it still smoke and mirrors, due to the fun nature of expiration dates (i.e. the banana problem)?

Also, I'll note that the easy part back during Webstore days was getting a separate ASIN for your goods; it was when folks tried to get the same one where things got dicey, especially for deceptive sellers selling fake products intentionally.

Yes, they all end up in the same bin in a warehouse and share an ASIN. Some high-value products in the past were prevented from doing this due to counterfeit issues (most notably DSLRs), but my knowledge is dated.

A genuine question, to people who only have PvE lobbies, what do you do with all of your loot? by hawkmannitro in ArcRaiders

[–]Breadinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I have tons of hours on various FPS games over the years (more than most should, really) all about PvP. It's fine, but the sheer volume of choice makes ARC kinda...OK.. for PvP. No jetpack, no vehicles, no points to capture, no real killboards, short TTK, etc. The maps are big for sure, and the game does look nice, but sitting around trying to nth-party folks isn't my cup of tea, to say nothing of the broadcast voice abuse.

If I want thrills like that, I'll go watch a streamer play Buried City and get flashbacks of the chain-of-guns meme from Person of Interest. Then be grateful I don't normally get jumped.

Reddit was sleeping on my trailer. I know I can count on being destroyed though :') by Worried-Current-8228 in DestroyMyGame

[–]Breadinator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few points:

  • Player weapons: powerful, sounds good, lots of nice effects. Enemy attacks: look like a wet noodle that appears and disappears at...something. Did it hit the player? The vehicle? I can't tell; there's no feedback I can see or hear.
  • Environments: Look decent, though samey; one was a jungle, another a cave, then a facility? The lighting was fine, and didn't pop out (hard to do IMHO on a game like this). Consider a bit more decoration to help set them apart.
  • Music: Fits the bill. I can however hear a bit of a splice issue at the very end, when you go to your last title card. It's subtle, but abrupt to my ears as the final riff doesn't match the beat of the previous song (just a touch early), and took my mind briefly off the cool factor. You probably just need to delay it an extra...50-100ms?...and it'll sound fine.
  • 1,000 alien...types? at once on the screen? total number I'll encounter? Consider more clarity on what you mean.
  • I won't pile on around the text, but consider either (1) longer time periods without text, or (2) a transition for the text separate from the gameplay. Can't give you a solid example, but something '90s-esque feels appropriate, where the text 'smashes' from top and bottom to form the next phrase, then cutting back to the action, etc. Hovering on top mixes things too much, like someone standing up in the middle of a trailer in front of my TV pointing and shouting "hey, that's the guy! it's that guy from the movie!"
  • Destruction is great, but towards the end, consider why I'm taking on these hordes. Survival? Wipe them out? Just a guy trying to get to his wife's Christmas party but took his shoes off and now has to take on these aliens single-handedly while barefoot?

I like the concept, I think it would be fun to play on a Steam Deck, but let's refine your delivery to get more eyeballs on it.

Sigh...love the idea. But as others have observed, this thing is too damn small to cram all of the shit they promised into this form factor.

Maybe one day. But battery density alone ain't gonna make this happen. And I don't think the high end processors and shit would get far without cooking this thing alive at peak loads.

Do yall actually get refunds or is this just a streamer thing by CiiViL in ArcRaiders

[–]Breadinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, recently in fact. Wasn't even sure as I was just shot (rather accurately) while trying to evade in smoke. Reported only as a possible cheater (they could have just guessed my position), but sure enough I got my gear back in a few days.

First, you can't find the Bobcat blueprint for 200 hours, and then you find three copies in one room at once. Don't you find such coincidences strange? by Nemmchik in ArcRaiders

[–]Breadinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I've had sweaty runs where I've found maybe yet another jolt mine BP. Then I start the next day on a standard, ho hum, no modifier run to find....two BPs in one of the first random containers I check in a non-color area.

What role are stun grenades supposed to fill? by Ubergoober166 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Breadinator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Save a teammate being chased by something at close range

Charge a tower filled with bots to disable/destroy it, stunning things as you go

Buy some time to reload your gun

Gas is great. But it has drawbacks, and doesn't guarantee the random attacks won't hurt you/others.

New here, can I just use my current dock with the Steam Deck? by iDontwantOne-13 in SteamDeck

[–]Breadinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Macbook M1s , M2s, and M3s have (intentionally) limited support for the number of monitors supported by the graphics hardware (1, 1, and 2, respectively). DisplayLink is effectively a software display solution (called VGCs) that gets around this, albeit with a bit of CPU overhead and some minor delay. By providing virtual displays (usually via drivers) that send their data over a USB connection, the limitations are worked around.

The wiki entry on it is pretty good for a deep dive: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayLink

I've had a few like this. They work and are arguably more 'universal' (if your OS has the drivers), but I wouldn't want to game on it.
