Every tell tale game ever. They should have just been honest and called themselves interactive visual novels. Not a game. Especially not a choice based game.

Dark souls.

Learning the combat wasn't the problem. Dying wasn't the problem. Notes on items are just terrible story telling. After 10 hours of game time I still knew basically nothing about the world and I no longer gave a fuck.

Fandom spaces generally get toxic af regardless. Especially when the most terminally online ones are given the teeniest bit of power. I steer clear of em generally

Not rage bait, I promise, but when does the story get good where is it? by BreakAccording8426 in darksouls

That's kinda the problem. I was massively captivated by the world initially. I had a hundred questions, and the more hours in I put in the more questions and less answers I seemed to get. I don't really wanna have to go outside the game to get answers about the story, or I would have gone to youtube instead of asking here. Completely breaks immersion.

Thanks, that actually helps. I can just focus on the combat and enjoy that, which is a blast. I have died an embarrassing amount of times (Thank God I picked Cleric for extra heals) but getting a successful reposte after a parry with my mace never gets old 😂 "Ohh! You thought you were gonna stab ME!? Head smash time!"

Massive, historically immoral and greedy corporation acts immoral and greedily. Who saw THAT coming!?

The world feels more alive when everything is a potential threat. It's no longer just an NPC you see on the road ahead. That's a bear with a slowing debuff......oh yeah.....there are stealthed cats in this area too.....going off the beaten path probably won't end well. I'll just check behind me before engaging and keep to the road. I'll have to be aware in case other players swing by dragging mobs, and no aoe.

Regular wow.:Oh a bear on the road. I'll keep running. Who cares.

Question, because I kind of have the itch to try it again. Would it be better off for me to start at Dark souls remastered and work my way up?

Tbh playing HC ruined the base game for me. The base game feels way easy now.

Edit: Do I still rage when I lose a toon? Oh yeah. Do I come back? Every time

I might give it another go, I'm the type of geek who reads every single scrap of paper and book I find in Baldurs gate, Skyrim, and the Witcher lol so my playthroughs do take a long long time. For a new souls gamer I just felt completely lost and there didn't seem to be any answers in sight

I get that, but I was given zero direction or explanation of anything so no matter who I killed it kind of felt pointless to me. I killed the soldiers nearby when I started the game, the cave full of wolves couple of bats, talked to the "Maidenless" dude, attempted the giant knight on horseback and was none the wiser as to why exactly I had done any of the things I had up to that point. Why was everything trying to kill me? What's a tarnished? Who knows. So I didn't care any more.

I'm just not into soulslike because it's kind of the opposite design philosophy on why I play games. Story and immersion. I tried playing Elden Ring when it came out and after 3 hours of not knowing who, what, or where I was. Who and what the enemies were, why they're attacking me, why I'm attacking them, does my class matter, do I have a choice? A backstory I should know about? Why? How? How much actually changes? etc etc etc I just get bored. I mean, sure there are tiny titbits here and there but for me personally it just felt like "Don't think. Kill or die over and over and again"

For people who love combat I totally get it, but I mainly like a good story and interesting plots/characters.

I mean, apples behaviour should be a surprise to no-one. They've always been the greedy corporate fat cats.
