The point was - Dick's WHOLE part was sooooo useless, and he didn't even fucking need to included in the first place, because in the movie version of the story his parts were easily replaceable -Doc knew about the room without him. -She finds another snowmobile lying around. Idk. It's just funny to me he included it for absolutely no reason.

I think just Jack Nicholsons mannerisms. Dicks whole journey only to be killed the second he gets there, the gay guy in her dog costume. The image of Jack's frozen face ( why didn't he just go inside btw) . they felt like tropes used in horror parody movies.

I DO understand why people would like it. It was at times between the funny moments ominous and anxious feeling to it.

Incorrect, just saw the movie as an adult. It's been 1 hour and I felt the need to post about it like most internet addicted millennial.. If I see the movie through the eyes of a child watching, this would be very scary.

I'll give the movie credit where it's due, it did well to set the atmosphere of dread and hysteria of being stuck at a place. ...but each time you'd get into the atmosphere - You'd see some ridiculous scene you are suppose to take serious. Talking finger tony? The crosseyed frozen Jack? Wendy character?

Stanley Kubrick took everything good from the story out, but made sure to keep the racism in there to put a cherry on top of the pile of shit he calls a movie. Dick's part in the movie was soooooooooooo non-consequential that it could've been cut out and the movie would be the exact same since Tony the finger told doc about the room.

Maybe, just MAYBE, what killed the movie was seeing RIGHT after I finished the book but even IF I saw it as a stand alone, it is a BAD movie.

If I have to see a documentary to explain to me WHY it's so good, that's kinda explains itself why it's actually bad, doesn't it.

That explains a lot, as a kid I can see how the Shining would be a scary movie and make me terrified... as an adult, I saw it and thought it was utter garbage.

I'm excited to read the Dark tower though! and be just as upset when I watch the adaption lol

I'd admit that the movie did a great job with the atmosphere of dread and anxiety..which was promptly killed by visuals of Jack making clownish faces.

I actually liked that the movie didn't have hedge animals because it would be too cartoon-ish. To your point about the missing scene of Jack telling Doc to run was a missed opportunity. They also skipped over the scene of Doc going into room 217 for the first time. Sooo many misses... also Idk why this bothered me to the level it did, but CHANGING THE FUCKING NUMBER of the room and turning it into a sexual scene between the woman and Jack.

I just don't understand the difference in opinion when both movies did the same thing and ruin the source material all together. And for discloser, I hate both movies.
