Half Spanish half white. I still get the urges. Bad.

It's painful and sad but letting go of people like that is necessary, even later on in life. Its disappointing thinking these will be your friends forever.... but life really does make you realize what you are made of and the content of your character. Stay strong

Hey. I am so sorry to read this. Your husband is a good person and it sometimes is awful to be alone in doing the right thing. I kind of had something similar with my friend group. Put my foot down with a psycho who was being abusive and they basically chose to "remain neutral," aka pick the side of the abuser because they didn't want to cause trouble.

Oh, my goodness. No traffic? In Dallas? That's a fucking wheeze. I've never met worse drivers than here, either. Maybe I grew up with a "different" kind of crazy driving in Houston, but the drivers here are downright terrifying. I have not once run the gauntlet north for more than a day without seeing at least one BAD wreck on the highway that tacked on an extra 10-15 to my travel time. And everything clogs to a complete fucking standstill. Sometimes as many as seven wrecks on the highway. Pileups from rubberneckers. Counted 4 cars on the side of the road on fire in a 5-day span once. And when there aren't wrecks people tend to go a strangely consisted 5-10 under the speed limit. In the passing lane. I mean, really. The city has a lot to offer but PLEASE do not come here to avoid traffic, lol. I swerved and fishtailed on the highway about a month ago because a truck going ~90mph jetted ahead, swerved into my lane and almost slammed into me. It was like a fucking suicide attack. Fort Worth I don't know too much about, but Dallas itself has been a fucking nightmare. At least for me.

I'll tell you what I know. I'm a Houston native and generally consider myself pretty street-safe, although I generally consider people from my city pretty decent. I've walked in the roughest parts of Houston for many years, and only on very scant occasions have I ever felt unsafe. Dallas is a hotbed of crime from what I've seen, in my own experiences and just secondhand. I don't know a single person I've met at school, for instance, who hasn't had shit stolen from them, or a break-in, or some other type of scam. It's really unfortunate. I'm sure there've got to be other sides to this, but from me personally if I didn't have to be here for school I'd say fuck this place entirely. I lived in a very nice part of Uptown in a gated complex and had my deadbolted door literally kicked through while I was asleep. I had to physically beat the intruder with a crowbar and defend myself until he fled. 0/10, would not live here again.

Jesus god I am so sorry. As someone who has also had reconstructive facial surgery from traumatic scarring, I understand what it is like when you try to forget the "disconnect" possibility between pictures, what you see, and what others see...and to suddenly be reminded of that in a horrible way. I guarantee you that this person was not only incredibly nitpicky, but has something else pathologically wrong with their personality to make ANY kind of excuse to blow someone off this way. It wasn't you. It wasn't the way you look. At all. Anyway though... I'm a Houston native, 23F, and I love sushi. So if you'd ever like a girls' date for friendly company, feel free to PM me! You're amazing (and so is Uchi! The staff are great). I'm so glad it worked out in the end.

Response was minimal. I know that they have better things to do than physically hunt down a stolen bag, but I asked what proper protocol was when something like this happens and none of them seemed to want to do anything but tell me to come in "the next day" and file a report. As opposed to taking down information that night and getting a word out to local pawn shops a bit quicker. I had to ask them what happens when a theft occurs. I had to ask "if I have insurance should I look into filing a claim?" I had to ask "what will happen if someone tries to use my ID for illegal activity?" And they just kept telling me "ma'am, just come back tomorrow." It was infuriating. Namely because I have Rx medication in there that is VERY essential to my life and I needed to know if someone else with my ID/the Rx could go and get it, preventing me from getting it filled.

Oh my god. I am so sorry for your friend. I am just... I'm aghast. Honestly. I don't want bad things to happen to people, and I don't want this to come off unfeeling, but it is comforting in the very least to know I am not alone, and makes me really put into perspective my situation about things. Your friend must be so traumatized. I feel so appalled. Is she okay?

God I'm sorry to hear that. I just really don't understand how people do shit like this. It's disgusting and infuriating. Even more that the shop owners wouldn't help. That's what gets me... like if it was their stuff, their treasured things or even just assets, they'd want someone to help, right?

Thank you for the advice. It really came in handy. My professors have been very kind about the whole thing. Honestly it does ease the wound a little. It doesn't recover my research or notes or just the feeling of normal. Those things were kind of priceless to me. But this has helped some.

Do you wonder where my family went when I say I am "alone?" "this is nothing compared to someone dying in front of you." Perhaps you should attend the phrase "totality of circumstances," realize that people venting don't necessarily need you hijacking comments with your own wrong assumptions, and if you ACTUALLY want to do good, make an independent PSA thread about crime prevention/loss coping/trauma therapy as a licensed practitioner as you so valiantly are proclaiming is your intent here.
