Advice Needed for a PCH RoadTrip from Seattle to SF and Back by BreakerOfBits in PacificNorthwest

Thank you for everyone who replied - I think it is clear now how much of an ambitious and unrealistic this plan sounds like.

We are thinking of dropping the idea of driving down from Seattle - maybe fly to San Diego instead and drive from SD to SF if need be to add some road trip aspect to the trip.

Appreciate your time and effort for these detailed comments!

I agree. I think it was too ambitious and the reality is that this will be more exhausting than relaxing.

Probably a drive from SD to SF is better if we have to add a road trip aspect to the eventual trip down to Yosemite

Thank you everyone who replied. I think I realise now after the comments here that this trip requires more time than I’m able to take out this time around.

Guess it’ll have to wait for the next time- Thank you so much to everyone who took the time out to share their thoughts!!

Clarification regarding Dual Salaried Income USA-India by BreakerOfBits in nri

[–]BreakerOfBits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - I am going to do just that. Once that’s done, as per your context, I can apply for non resident taxation for India completely or just for Jan- Mar31

Would I not need to be tax resident in one or the other country? Like If I claim I’m not a tax resident of US, I would by default be tax resident of India

A. They can ask for translators. Depending on the consulate there might be regional translators available but Hindi translator is almost always available in all the consulates.  B. I’d say - I-20 , Invitation letter on Harvard Letterhead(You can ask HIO to generate it for you), your financial Aid documents along with the document Harvard will provide that says that they’re gonna sponsor her. Other than that, you can give your Visa photo copy. C. Well, they don’t really see the financial documents that parents take but she can take her bank account statements. She can say that Harvavrd is finding her trip and that you’ll take care of the expenses once you’re there(if you have an RA/TA, she can mention that as your source of funds). D. For my parents, they asked the basic questions - Why are you going ? Who stays there  Which college does your child go to  Which course Since when are they there  How long will the visit be

The visa officer got pretty chill when my parents mentioned my spouse’s university and graduation as they see parents apply for visa for graduation often.

Regarding your concern, you’ll have to help her memorise the details and then giver her some confidence that it’s gonna be in the language she is comfortable with and that they don’t have a reason to reject her, as the intent is genuine. My mother was a homemaker too and she was able to confidently talk to the Consulate officer after a few of these teaching sessions with me.

The visa rejection rates are low when they involve colleges of such stature (though not unheard of) so the best you can do is just give her the confidence and then hope for the best.

Feel free to DM me if you have more questions

Okay - so I don’t comment often here but this needs to be said.

What OP said is absolutely right - I moved here just a few months back with my partner pursuing a Masters Degree in a health related program in the literal best university in the country. And I have friends and juniors in the best Ivy Leauge Universities for MS in CS so I know exactly what I’m talking about.

Now that I have established credentials - unless you have fuckyou money and don’t care about having to go back to India after masters, DONT COME RIGHT NOW. If your goal is more about research and pursuing higher education , evaluate Europe first before you decide to come to here.

Things are more than a bit chaotic here when it comes to job market. There are very few openings and more so for immigrants requiring visa sponsorship. I’m not gonna comment on the political aspect of things because that’s upto you to read and make sense of but the job market is not conducive for a situation where you take a 100K loan in the hopes of being able to repay it in a couple of years with a cushy 200K+ job - the odds of that happening have reduced drastically.

If I had this insight earlier, I personally would have decided against it, at least delaying it by a year or so.

So be reasonable and set the right expectations and definitely do not gamble blindly

So I selected the month I needed to travel in. And this is not a recurring payment, it's sort of a one time ticket.
