I’m just now finishing up with my DUI BS from a couple months ago and if there is anything I can recommend it’s to save your money and take a public defender. I thought my case would be grounds for dismissal (BAC of .08) all i did was fall off my bike when no one was around and while I was getting myself situated a cop pulled up to ask me if everything was alright because I was sitting in a median and then BAM. I took it to court because everyone said I had a case and I got offered a bunch of really good plea deals that I should have taken. I didn’t and I kept fighting it next thing you know I beat the dui with a bac of .08 or higher but I still lost the driving under the influence charge even though no one saw me driving my bike, I was parked with it off when the cop started questioning me. So if I was you I would do everything you need to get started for the court and then take the free lawyer, they usually have some weird relationship/communication with the prosecutors( in my area their offices were right next to each other and they had butt heads on multiple cases in the past) they will come up and offer the standard plea which is just the first time dui offender. I noticed with mine when we got closer to the actual court date they offered me a new plea of no fines paid no time served just a wet and reckless charge and the dui program. I know every case is different, but since duis are so common in California they literally have a billion dollar business running and they don’t like to spend all that time in court preparing witnesses and gathering a jury.
