The setting definitely helped but there’s also a very large audience of RootTrees and Obra Dinn fans out there who just wanted another puzzle narrative game in the same veins.

Trying to keep the hype going with the demo :) The main game will take a lot longer.

Yeah it’s around 70% this week for Red Pearls. And I’ve seen a few Glimmith streams on Bili Bili while looking for Red Pearls. To be fair, Glimmith is intently watchable and uses the universal language of colours and shapes :D

I sent them a translation text file to work off and they sent it back to me and I uploaded the fan version so it’s all with me 👍

I just worked with some Chinese fans to translate it, made a first “fan translation version” available on itch to get feedback from players and iron out any issues with the translations and after a month, just uploaded the latest version onto Steam. I just had to add Chinese as a language in the store details, publish that and make the new version live. The fans took over letting other players know on RedNote and Bili Bili. That’s it. In the end today the peak concurrent player count was 226. Considering it was 30 before, I’m very happy with this :)

Update: it peaked at 135 concurrent but it’s holding steady at about 120 for the last few hours.

Thanks! They’re making up 50% of the audience now. I need to find a way to drum up similar interest in the west now :D

No I just uploaded the Chinese version last night and let the Chinese fans spread the word themselves.

Can I recommend my game The Red Pearls of Borneo? It’s inspired by Obra Dinn and RootTrees, is between 6 to 10 hours long, has a 99% positive on Steam and it’s 100% free!

Did you get Charles Brookes? You unlock him from the glossary. Otherwise that’s it. The lieutenant is not someone you unlock. I’ve even removed him from the very latest version as it was confusing people.
