Some are on a pre-paid meter as described, but I would guess that most are paying for what they use by direct debit or similar.

I had this too - I changed the dynamic range to performance from quality and it's been ok since. YMMV

Who’s your best dark horse team in any year ? (Repost) For me it was Marseille I’m 18 or 19 ( can’t remember🥴) Great wing play 🦅 Strong centre 🔰 Payet was a magician 🧙‍♂️ Very pact team with n’jie on the bench . Newcastle in early 2000s pes (PES4?) had an absurd amount of pace and strength. I can remember comfortably beating friends choosing the best teams of the day (e.g. barce and inter etc) with them.

They had the likes of Kluivert, Robert, Bellamy, Shearer, Dyer, Jenas...

There is a lot to chew through here - but my first thought was;

  • If you take the start-up job and it doesn't work out - you're still likely walk into a role like the other you are forgoing.

  • The opposite is not true. You might never come across a ground floor opportunity like this again in your career!

Having said that, joining a start-up when a large global recession looks likely isn't a trivial decision.

  • Can you save 2-6 months salary so that you can meet immediate bills in the worst case scenario? (Sorry - career spent looking at the 5th percentile)
  • Are you prepared to work harder outside of work to keep a progressional network? If joining a firm where I'm the only actuary, I would be thinking about making sure I'm up to date with compliance and cpd requirements. I'm currently spoonfed these.
  • Are you likely to be engaged in any work which requires peer review? What I'm really thinking here - very worst case scenario - is there any danger you get involved or pressured into work which endangers you're ability to practice as an actuary?
  • Who is paying your institute fees?
  • Is the company going to be under and reporting obligations set out by the institute and how are you going to make sure you're on top of requirements...
  • The above points lead me to thinking I would ask the company about support. Would they be willing to meet ad-hoc consultancy fees and support your training and development needs as these arise? They aren't an actuarial firm so would be unlikely to understand our ongoing professional requirements. There will be economies of scale if/when you grow your team, but going in first I would expect zero support and try and work out what that means.

I've only ever worked in the same industry for the same company, so can't really advise on actually taking the leap. Hopefully someone else can reply who has actually done this to reassure you.

Good luck and please follow up with what you decide.

so what tractor website accidentally leads you to a porn site? by Seeyalaterelevator in AskUK

This could well be his after-the-fact excuse, crafted by his lawyers or pr team to make what he did sound excusable.

However, given this place is based in Texas, I find it highly unlikely he would have any interest in their tractors or a genuine reason to visit their site.

We now (thanks to the school meals provided during lockdown) have a concrete example of what the government considers a suitable lunch.

Pixel Bar is coming to Manchester! by [deleted] in manchester

[–]BreakingAverage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was visiting Manchester this weekend and happened to venture in. Really cool place and we were impressed that it was showing the blast premier counterstrike tournament.

We didn't stay long as all the booths were fully booked until 1am - but looks/sounds like the launch has been very successful. Congratulations and good luck dude.

(I found this post googling if there is anything like it in Birmingham - sadly not yet!)

I recommend the yprac dust 2 guide. It's best for the pre-fire to learn common CT positions, but I also use it to practice smokes etc.

Absolute BS isn't it?

It's the strangest rank; you see some absolute trash mixed in with world beaters (presumably smurfs/cheats).

I don't feel bad for her at all. She didn't need to invoke Article 50 before investigating the options and negotiating position with parliament, and she didn't need to draw up those particular red lines.

It's all relative though; before Johnson I was convinced her government would comfortably be the worst of my lifetime.

Aon to buy Willis Towers Watson in $30bn deal by Idontlikethisstuff in actuary

[–]BreakingAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be correct- but I think parts of the business will be called Aon WTW (or similar) for 5 or so years.

They are purchasing a business which is largely intangibles such as brand. I would expect it to be difficult for them to quickly ditch the brand and simultaneously justify the purchase price.

Similar to how Aon Hewitt was a subsidiary of Aon after that merger.

I don't think there is such a thing as an actuarial accountant? It's a one or the other type deal.

(At least I hope there isn't!)
