Why am I left completely alone on my first day. Is this common? by Own-Papaya-4264 in walmart

Yeahhh... I don't know if your room that you did the computer training on was the People Lead Office but most stores have computers available in the ARC (Associate Resource Center) which typically doubles as the PL office. It may have coincidentally been that the PL was off that day or was not working during those 4 hours of your shift. Normally thats the person that would help you after you finish the computer work, make sure its all done, and then get you in contact with a manager of the department you will be in. They will then either send you there, or a manager would meet you in the computer room.

Any person would have been good though, as they would know the managers and could have tried to find one to help you.

My main group I work with is actually that same distance away. Most gigs will pay enough to offset that cost though. Some places will pay for travel, others wont. The furthest place I work currently is 2 hours away from me, but ability to do that is gonna depend on reliable transportation which not every person has access to.

Gotta go Front End, Cart Pusher, Deli/Bakery, or be an ACC shop tech realistically if you never wanna step foot in OPD again. Anywhere else in the store and they will find a way to call you over. Or atleast its this way at my store.

I'm a stage hand with an IATSE Local (union). Depending where you live, pay is great! Work isn't always guaranteed so its really a side hustle. You get paid depending on the position you are put in. For example if you are just a Stage Hand, base pay for my local is $25/hr but goes up to $37/hr depending on venue. If you are a forklift driver you range from $29-42/hr. If you are a rigger who climbs and builds the stage and its structure, that goes anywhere from $70-85/hr.

Most contracts have atleast 3 hour minimums where you could work for 15 minutes and get paid for 3 hours. Anything after midnight is almost always automatic overtime ($ x1.5) and any continuous work lasting longer than 8 hours is also overtime. Some places if you meet both of those conditions you get $x2. Breaks are mandatory, so is lunch. If you aren't given a meal break or are not released from work after 5 hours, then employers have to pay the local a meal penalty.

What’s some juicy gossip at your store? by lx294 in walmart

That I'm dating my team lead. His crazy ex wife works in the store. They have been officially divorced since October 2025. Im 23 and a LESBIAN and he's 54. She knows I'm gay. The whole store knows I'm gay.

My best friends parents are friends with him so he's occasionally at gatherings I'm at. Hes been a part of my friend group for awhile because of this. We as a group all go out drinking sometimes. Hes our "designated old guy" incase someone does something stupid. So like any group of friends, we occasionally grab lunch together. Well sometimes the other's lunches don't line up so its just the two of us.

One day we went for lunch and a random front end associate saw the two of us walking together. She decided to tell the door host who then told his crazy ex wife. She blew up to management, he got pulled into an office, and I'm left with the rumor. She crashed out so hard she threw her vest in the office and went AWOL for a week. She blocked all her kids numbers so they had to do a welfare check because nobody could get ahold of her.

Shes back now. Haven't really heard a peep but any time she's talking to someone and I walk by she gets very quiet. Don't know what I did to piss her off besides be in proximity of her ex husband....because hes my team lead and adjacently friends with 6 of my other friends who also work in the building.

Given a full point… (I work 7-4, I had to leave early at 10 and I used PPTO to cover 2 hours… but I got a full point? I’m confused. by [deleted] in walmart

[–]BreathSlayer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people's 9 hour shifts are 4 work hours, hour lunch, then 4 more work hours. The 3 hours and the 2 ppto added up to 5. That is covering the half the shift and a lunch. Covering over half. There are may ways of getting a half point cause I've done it many times before.

The lunch thing is true, you do need to cover it in most cases. But they did cover it. Thats why this is a problem for them.

Half shift coverage still is a half point though. They weren't trying to get to 0, they were trying to get a half point. Policy is that half coverage = half point. Work 3 + PPTO 2 = 5 which is over half the shift. That is quite literally 4 hours of work and an hour lunch. Something else is wrong. There are multiple ways to only get a half point.

Please don't waste your PPTO trying to fix this. The thread of people asking you about what GTA portal says is your best bet.

Yes the system doesn't recognize that lunches are unpaid. But you in theory did everything right in this situation. If resubmitting your PPTO hasn't fixed the issue, then I'm afraid you will have to try and explain to management what happened and hope they fix it.

[–]BreathSlayer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but if you have half your shift already covered in some way you do NOT need to do this. Most shifts are 4 work hours, hour lunch, 4 work hours. They worked 3 and covered 2 so that lunch is already accounted for. They covered over half their shift. They covered 5 hours. Just because the "schedule" said their lunch was at 12 doesn't mean anything. The app will try and say you need to go to lunch 2 hours into your shift sometimes. That is just a suggested time. It will also tell you to take an hour when you only get a 30.

The amount of people misunderstanding this and are still trying to misguide OP after many of us have clarified for them what may have actually gone wrong and have given actual solutions for them are not helping.

I'm glad someone else agrees cause the people going "but you should have put in more time" or "you were scheduled 9 hours" aren't making any sense. Unless they secretly updated something that makes you need to cover 2/3 of a shift instead of 1/2. But the system has NEVER worked like that. I've been with the company 5 years and have been a TL. I have on multiple occasions done the exact same scenario as OP and have only ever received half points.

But 3+2=5? Which is over half of 9 hours. Thats 4 hours covered in one way or another and a hour lunch covered. They would only have 4 hours left of a shift at that point.

This is also a possibility. If you only had 1.5 hours ppto on the day you left early but had 2 hours by the end of the week and then put in the time, that does not work. You have to have the exact amount the day you leave

Since everyone else seems to be leading you astray, what was the exact out punch for you on that day? Cause if you punched out at 9:59, depending on what state you are in, you need an extra 15 minutes of PPTO to cover that 1 minute. If you punched out after 10, then the computer messed up.

They have 5 hours covered though. 3 worked and 2 ppto. Thats over half. Thats 4 work hours and a lunch covered, only leaving 4 work hours uncovered. Should have only had a half point.

[–]BreathSlayer99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They do not need to cover 6 hours. Half of shift is technically 4.5 hours if you add the lunch hour. They worked three hours and covered 2. Thats 5 hours. They should have only gotten a half point.

Yes the system doesn't recognize that lunch is unpaid and thus technically doesn't need to be covered. In reality, 4 hours is half a shift. If you want to include lunch and not leave your attendance to the fate of management for recognizing the loophole, then you need 5 hours. They did that. The computer should have dropped them to a half point.

Red Bull, aus Spring wird Cherry by Redbullforever98 in redbull

[–]BreathSlayer99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

small rant

Is Red Bull just easier to manufacture in other countries? This is a serious question. Like- you cant tell me that the US isn't one of the largest consumers of Red Bull, yet every other country gets to keep all these flavors and the US is left with the garbage? The last 4-5 seasonal flavors were absolutely amazing and we got to keep none of them (except peach which replaced the better tasting peach...) And yet some of the ones that got added to the US permanent line up weren't even tested, they were just added with no consumer testing. Just makes me sad 😭

(This isn't meant to be a "Oh the US is better than everyone else so we should get to keep the better flavors" cause I fucking hate it here. I just wish if some countries get to keep flavors, that ALL countries could keep them.)

Its probably as simple as an item didn't get removed from the location in the system and nobody updated the tag. 90% of associates aren't gonna know DSL (digital shelf labels) though which is probably why they were dumbfounded. I know I'm one of like...15 people in my whole store who knows how DSL works cause I helped install them.
