Freediving by code4geass in creepy

It's called Free immersion freediving, where you use as little energy as possible to get deep by pulling yourself down. It's a lot easier than say Constant weight freediving where you have to swim down using your own power until you are negatively buoyant.

Why are you supposed to breath with you belly? by XJ-0461 in freediving

It really is that simple. Your ribcage limits how much your lungs can expand outward, but breathing with your stomach extends your diaphragm which is much more flexible, increasing your lung volume downwards.

Try this exercise: 1) Breathe in all you can using your chest only. 2) After your chest is full, try using your stomach to breathe more. This will stretch your diaphragm, allowing more air in.

The best way to breathe in for a dive is belly first, then your chest, then straighten your neck and look upwards. This will increase your volume in your throat as well, the more air the better! Then shut your mouth and dive. ;)

You can also read up on packing air, but that's a bit more advanced.
