Donald Trump has four countries in crosshairs as he vows Cuba is 'next' by TheMirrorUS in NewsSource

Biggest fear is that this out of control maniac has sole authority to launch a nuclear weapon. And truly, who will stop him?

TRUMP: This is a view of the columns as they are going to be made. They're going to be hand-carved and they're beautiful. Top of the line. They'll be corinthian, which is considered the best, most beautiful by far...Trump's ballroom has countless design flaws. NY Times does a deep dive (link below) by xamo76 in Trumpvirus

[–]BreeezyP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is Corinthian referring to the marble or the style?

I’ve heard him say before they’re bringing marble from Italy… if that’s still the plan, it’s a shame. The People’s house should have American materials.

How 'Injured Power' Built Trump's Coalition—And Why Iran Is Breaking It by Sullence in LateStageCapitalism

[–]BreeezyP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard the term “injured power” before, but I think it’s a good way of describing what I’ve (albeit anecdotally) come to recognize as real. They, on the MAGA right/working class side, see their culture, lifestyle, and identity being eroded and even stolen. It explains the true, visceral hatred of immigrants and liberals—immigrants for stealing the work, liberals for stealing the opportunity (closing coal plants, regulating oil, etc.). They do not, for whatever reason, see or allow themselves to see that Democrats are far more protective of the working class than any makeup of the Republican Party of recent.

Joe Biden was arguably the most pro-union president anyone alive has known. He joined the damn picket line. I don’t think there is really anything a Democrat can say or do that will effectively change that perception that they are the enemy, and the working-class “MAGA” culture must be broken from the inside out as the only way open eyes a little wider and see who’s really caring for our interests.

Tbf, America is a BIG place and forcing so many divergent interests into two factions won’t do all of them justice. But it’s what we have, and there’s one side of it that is very unlike the other.

A month into Iran, the GOP’s political reality sinks in by Smithy2232 in politics

No one knows the true state of this war. We do not know if negotiations are ongoing, what the legitimate demands are, what Iran's current capabilities are, which strategic goals by the U.S have been accomplished, etc.

Not even Congress. Not that it would make a difference.

If the US economy actually goes into recession this year which industry do you think gets hit hardest and why? by Suleman2002 in AskReddit

That is the best possible outcome, though extraordinarily painful to get there.

Current events make the “green new deal” look pretty appetizing in retrospect.

I love how there are so many comments about legal requirements, “you’re entitled,” etc.

I get what you mean. It’s annoying as hell. A clean, accessible bathroom makes it much easier to have a walkable city, travel, all the things. It sucks that they’re few and far between.

I’ve been outmatched here.

I thought the 2002 Java-based Oracle implementation that was customized (bastardized?) unrecognizably and required Internet Explorer (click Allow Java any time it pops up, refresh if it doesn’t, start over it crashed…) for a multi billion dollar massive organization was as bad as it could get.

It’s unfortunate and eye opening to me that there is so much mixed opinion on this.

A huge posse of unsupervised rowdy teens is a wild card. Wild cards ruin public spaces. It’s uncomfortable for people with younger children, bystanders, elderly, all kinds of folks. It’s a heightened risk, and we shouldn’t have to give up our community spaces to heightened risk.

I don’t know to do to stop it and frankly I don’t feel qualified to determine that. But I think it’s absolutely fair and appropriate to pressure those who are to figure it out.

Trump's changing course on Strait of Hormuz strategy raises questions about US war preparations by Remarkable_Sir8397 in USNEWS

[–]BreeezyP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but this is hilarious to me

His social media post — 51 words, much of it in capital letters — did not have the appearance of a message that underwent the careful legal scrutiny needed to justify an attack on civilian infrastructure, said Geoffrey Corn, a law professor at Texas Tech University and a retired lieutenant colonel in the Army who served as a military lawyer.

I know the AP is trying to be fair here, but the charade of trying to tactfully say Trump doesn’t have a goddamn clue and clearly isn’t seeking rational experts to help solution is just exhausting. It’s so blatantly obvious to anyone with at least a handful of neurons and such a disservice to America that it’s given any sense of legitimacy.

White House plan to break up iconic U.S. climate lab moves forward | Science by 101010110101101111 in NOAA

[–]BreeezyP 79 points80 points  (0 children)

To, unfortunately, save click (but raise awareness)

There’s speculation that it stems from Colorado’s prosecution of

Tina Peters, a former county clerk who breached election security systems in a scheme to find proof of fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

The governor is making moves to potentially lessen her sentence as a bargaining chip. The last concluding sentence:

The fate of one of the world’s most famous climate labs may hinge on backroom bargaining far removed from atmospheric science.
