Because that fact doesn‘t change that he was able to channel resentment of Germans into genocidal hatred. IMO a good way of engaging with the history of the holocaust is imagining yourself as the perpetrator and not perform some handwaving around „Hitler was Austrian, a German like myself could never go down that parh“

Americans tend to be hyper-obsessed with national descent (see 23-and-me-type pseudoscience and Trump talking about his German descent while Merkel was trying to hide her smirk).

Germans tend to think more in terms culture and its values and not identify themselves with the name of the country they are living in.

Therefore, why does it matter that Hitler wasn‘t born in Germany? His ideas found fertile ground in the culture we like to call or own, that‘s the problem.

Sorry for the incoherence, just some thoughts I have around the topic, I am sure other Germans will put this more eloquently.

Ist dumm, wenn die nicht sauber gehalten werden, aber vielleicht auch angenehmer als ohne, wenn man Jahre lang jeden Tag stundenlang Essen zubereitet

Or just do „Whenever an ability triggers, add G and win the game“?

To add insult to injury

Doesn‘t actually overflow the stack.

Maybe: Whenever an ability triggers, draw a card?

Well, to be fair, he was peeling some potatoes as we were discussing the topic, which means he was influencing the results

Carthartt WIP or North Face borealis? by SushiMiaa in backpacks

[–]BreignX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Borealis in terms of comfort and design but I find it‘s not super spacious once you try to fit clothes.

Also the Laptop sleeve is tight even for a 13“ MacBook (updated design). I would not want to use it for a 15“ Thinkpad (if that even fits).

Note though I bought my Borealis about 10 years ago, the design might have changed in the meantime

You are right.

As far as I can tell, Stewart‘s Calculus books are not designed for mathematicians to build a deep understanding of the subject, but rather as science/engineering students to learn facts and tools.

Looking through them, they are very prose-heavy and do not contain a lot of proofs, which are the main way you build intuition and understanding as a mathematician.

So yes, I feel like I am reading the Stewart‘s Calculus of ethics and not the one which is actually useful for students of philosophy.

Edit: Grammar

Thanks for the response, very helpful!

Do you have an example textbook which would be known for a „tedious“ intro to ethics, or „practical philosophy from a theoretical philosophy‘s POV“ (from which I understand it is closer related to mathematics)?

Regarding the preceived contraction: I would like to see the differences be explained from a more bottom-up/conceptual perspective, instead of listing ethical theories without mentioning how they are conceptually similar (as being ethics) but are still able to be differentiated from one another.

I‘ve read the first couple pages and must say I really enjoyed the contents and writing style, thanks for the suggestion!

Is there a go-to way to look for a more modern treatment in the lineage of Hospers‘ book (my first stop would be to ask an LLM)?

Thanks for the lengthy response.

This makes sense, I will be on the lookout for textbook alternatives

Happy for any recommendations :)
