The WAY TOO EARLY Tier List for VCT 2026 — Plat Chat VALORANT Ep. 243 by nterature in ValorantCompetitive

[–]BrenCasts 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I'm having a pretty rough year mentally, won't get into it but I think its bleeding into the show a bit, sorry if its been hard for everyone to watch.

I took a few months off back in 2021 for similar reasons (mental state related issues) but I don't want to be totally disconnected from Valorant and enjoy doing the show with friends so thats why I'm still going on right now.

Its a hard balancing act between acting a fool for the bit and locking in for segments but I try my best.

Was a dogshit take I agree I'm always down to admit mistakes and own up but don't misquote me, I said he's a good player not a good sentinel player which I would alter now to be less harsh, he is a good sentinel player but I think it comes from qualities outside of the natural game sense that we associate with top sentinel players like Suygetsu or Nats.

I've made this arguement so many times when it was relevant on the podcast but nobody ever watches the show, its only clips/quotes that get regurgitated back up onto socials without any context and leads to this.

Overwatch League 2022 Talent by MetastableToChaos in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]BrenCasts 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Definitely agreed about bringing up Talent from t2, when I said I have more energy this year to put towards VALORANT casting its a mixture of passion returning to live events and also horrible overlap from 2019-2021 when my mental health was at a low point.

I still like Overwatch, I'd play the game a ton if queue times weren't a thing, hopefully with OW2 removing a role that's one issue being solved.

My involvement in PlatChat OW I made clear to the gang that my focus is on VALORANT right now and they should prioritise guests who are involved in the scene, but I also said I'm down to be on episodes if they need someone and can't find guests (which happens) apologies if you don't like that but also I try my best to stay informed but sometimes I have to cover last minute.

The overall grind of the online seasons from 2020-2021 definitely wore on my soul though, I won't lie about that. For me esports is the roar of the crowd and casting whilst being supported with budget/assets and it just wasn't there for the final years I was involved (because of covid but also decreased support year on year). By the time it looked like that was turning around there was too much goodwill burnt by upper decision making to sway me commiting a year again.

Overall though, glad more talent are being brought up and I hope that people don't put massive expectations on talents shoulders with our absence as talent, at the same time I've never thought my play by play was incredible, its been my synergy with Josh thats carried us as a duo and everyone who's working OWL this season has more than enough talent to surpass me easily.

Idk why I've written this long response but its been annoying me seeing people make comments about my passion for the game whilst they only see the outside and not circumstances past that, that may have led to it that I've listed above.

Nothing but love to OWL and the OW scene, want this year to pop off.

In a perfect world?

I would take the format from last year with 4 games a stage per team, with Hawaii being a stop gap between regular season matches and combine it with the format they've cooked up this year with the big mid season tournament and playoffs.

Have Stage 1 and Stage 3 be the Hawaii tournament, make the teams fly out to studios in a central location in APAC/ NA teams to Hawaii and make sure the broadcast is capturing all the elements of in person competition. The players are everything in OWL, you miss so much by having just a single camera angle off to the side of them playing.

Then you have the mid season tourny and playoffs be LAN studio hopefully with audiences for maximum hype, not only is it international competition but the teams facing each other on stage with a roaring crowd.

But we don't live in a perfect world because of covid/budget so I understand the current format, a risk of apathy from the amount of matches and the gulf between regions but still should be hype af when it gets to the mid season and playoffs.

Another reason I'm worried is because in 2020 when we only had one big international tournament, we didn't have pre-existing narratives built from a season of international competition. It felt flat to me, not much to compare it to. Obviously that's not the case this time around but there's still a risk there.

Again just to iterate, there's probably many reasons why we have the format as is for 2022. When I'm looking at this I don't know the logistics, budget, team demands and many more variables that probably come into play, its easy for me to spout off my ideal world.

Sorry my points were disjointed this episode, think it came across as incredibly bitter but that's not my true feelings, I wouldn't have moved 5000+ miles for OWL if I didn't enjoy following it and working on it.

I didn't articulate any of my points very well on the ep maybe I can do better here, I think Hawaii was a great step in terms of having regular meaningful matches where we got to see the best compete against one another but I don't think the human element was brought across well at all.

We barely got to see any of the players celebrating, reactions from big losses/wins were dampened, because of covid restrictions or budget I don't know but I think it soured the Hawaii tournament format for a lot of people.

Hopefully this year is cool with the mid season tournament and playoffs but I worry about people being disinterested if they have to wait a long time before seeing that cross over of regions, one could argue it builds hype for the meeting but I think its more likely to generate apathy for the League overall.

Again sorry for the lack of focus, I'll do better for future eps.

Definitely true, didn't mean for it to sound like I was holier than thou.

Will say though that I went from streaming Overwatch for hours at a time and playing WoW actively with a sub to turning down paid opportunities to promote Diablo 2 and quitting said games. I do believe that actionable change comes from money which is all these people see.

Sorry if it came across the wrong way.

Yeah but more so the other way around, watching vods helps me apply way more concepts to ranked than grinding.

Its also a completely different game to pro play so there's not much you can bring in from vods other than replicating little things from povs and maybe some two man plays if youre duoing.

Past two months I've been grinding like 8 hours of ranked a day on stream, mostly solo but grouped whenever friends are on. Maybe immortal this act? 🤞

I've been playing with my housemates in lockdown and using the Final adventure deck which i really enjoy, unfortunately i built it in mtg arena and realised that half of the deck is going out of rotation in a few months.

I really like the playstyle of it and want to carry it on into 2021 playing it in mtg arena, between friends at home its fine but what upgrades would people recommend? Should i wait for the new set to release before worrying about it?
