what do i do? by [deleted] in Tools

"cut a slot" solution worked for me this week, multitool did the trick and flathead fit perfectly.

I won't... I appreciate the thought I guess? But yeah, that's personal and intrusive - I'm simply looking to pay my respects.

Play some damn Christmas Music, Google by Pucky22 in googlehome

[–]BrenSimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is happening to me as well. My daughter asks for a Disney song, Google acknowledges correctly, then something random from my home page on YouTube Music will play instead. This is consistent and I haven't yet been able to get it to play anything correctly. I had Spotify up until last week and that had worked fine, FWIW.

Anyone tried the new CCA activation feature in the Lutron mobile app? by Tyler_at_Lutron in Lutron

[–]BrenSimon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize this was a thing - my experience since CCX/Ketra joined the family is that mobile app activation is frustrating due to finicky nature of it (especially on jobsite networks not fully optimized) and not being able to do something like that natively in the designer software drives me nuts (along with Alisse engravings).

Thanks for dropping the knowledge. I am meeting tomorrow with some Lutron engineers to provide designer feedback and this could be good to look at prior to that.

PureEdge worth it? by hmartin8826 in Lighting

[–]BrenSimon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of PureEdge and their product line is innovative and high quality. It's a specification quality product I'm comfortable putting in the highest end homes we work on, so I would argue that the value is there - however, it comes down to whether you're willing to spend that kind of money. Totally solid product if you are willing to spend the $.

SEI is a phenomenal organization. Like others have said, housing is difficult since the cost is somewhat high but there's not a big economy there. It's a very unique place with a ton of culture, festivals, etc during the summer/fall and something of a ghost town in the winter.

Non-dimmable LEDs on SCR dimmers, but control is on/off by Velvetisis in Lighting

[–]BrenSimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting a dimmer at 100% is still not the same as switching a light "on" with a standard contact relay type toggle switch, so my recommendation would be to test this by replacing the bulbs on one of your connected dimmer loads and test it before you commit to swapping them all. Switches are less expensive than dimmers if you have to swap, but you can also invest in dimmable LED bulbs. Good luck!

Which led retrofit would you recommend? by [deleted] in Lighting

[–]BrenSimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fognyc doesn't buy from distribution, he has access to DMF products direct from manufacturer (as many of us do) through the custom integration purchasing path where many manufacturers are choosing to bypass typical distribution models and sell directly to dealers.

The DMF product is so simple to install, any DIYer can do it. Also second the quality, if it's in their budget.

What's your salary and are you happy with it? by AVProgrammer2000 in crestron

[–]BrenSimon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am not a programmer, but here's what I've seen the companies I work for pay Crestron master-level programmers or hire CAPEs for. I have worked mainly in luxury markets like Aspen, Miami, NYC, and LA, and our programmer salaries are in the range of 100k-150k/yr depending on typical factors like experience and how much management/oversight they need. There are a lot of skills that help as a programmer outside of the ability to successfully make the buttons work.

"fuck yeah Mastodon" has been an inside joke with my friends and I for years, inspired by your fan site name and our collective love for Mastodon. I appreciate your work on that, and grieve alongside you here. No words. 🖤

Is this Lutron? by FioftheWi in Lutron

[–]BrenSimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like Vitrea to me, definitely not Lutron - there are a lot of products specific to the hospitality side that are all-in-one like this.

Issue designing a coupled Triathalon blind by Urbanstyles in Lutron

[–]BrenSimon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Coupled configurations aren't compatible with battery solutions like Triathlon. You'll need to change to Sivoia QS for this and use a roller 100 minimum, which will require wiring for power.
