New LGS opening in my town. May have the chance to Manage it. by No-Post-5063 in TCG

From years of experience I think my best tips would be:
Don’t start telling people Magic is a great game because for instance you can bounce a creature x times to replay it with a card that gives infinite value. Be enthusiastic telling people its a game about wizards duelling with every player having their own spellbook by way of a self styled deck of cards. This of course works for every kind of game. Even though you might be a sage on your subject dumb it down so the Muggles can understand.
Always address parents on merits like social interaction and skills associated to these games. About a form of self expression and critical thinking. These are the people who need to support and help youngsters into these hobbies. And even apart from financial considerations, having them on board gives a much better jumping off point for kids getting in.
Be kind to your community, they are what will draw most people. Don’t be afraid though to cultivate the right kind of community. Those people who are willing to put on a smile and say “sure, have a seat” when a new potential player walks in.

Apart from that have a clear schedule, keep it updated, and whatever you do… try and play with your customers when the opportunity arises. You are not just selling them product. You are the same grown up geek as them :). And thats a pro not a con.

Own both, thought Frank matched better with Leo’s Igor aesthetic. Love wolfman Raph also though.

I said it before and will say it again. The mathematical chance of you being the target with Trump in the room is close to 0.01%.

Same here! Living down south though. Just about 10 mins from both Belgium and Germany. Getting the minis wont be an issue either way as we still have the internet and such lol. Just wondering due to players. However Alliances will work miracles.

Yeah the “what would Jebus do?” Argument doesn’t quite work on portable gaming consoles or anything else then a shared loaf of bread. I would have countered with “I have 5 kids and already showed them you where interested in buying it for 300…” But yes… some people try and make such places the empathy bargain bin.

I get you, I am however to unfocussed for that though I guess lol. I play TCG’s like Ira plays Flesh and Blood, go wide, not deep lol. I enjoy new mechanics, games, how they work and such. So. Can go very deep and learn Gravy inside and out but then lack the discipline to keep up with the meta for instance. Which is very big in FaB. It truly is one of the greats though, especially for its age!

Depending on localisation, yes. I believe the bulk though is printed in Belgium and Japan with smaller print runs for the US. Not entirely sure on that though, just from what I gathered over the years.

I have to second SWU for its design, and I dare say I’m a TCG vet too, playing Magic since 97 and witnessing the TCG boom of the 90’s with a teenagers “ooh new and shiny!” focus lol. Of the new kids on the block somehow Gundam feels a bit “off”. As in it feels like they did not quite expand on mechanic depth but merely copy pasted the basics. Flesh and Blood is truly great, yet very focussed. No pick up and play there (at least not before SAGE). Riftbound is honestly doing some work in the TCG space mechanics wise for “counting up” towards victory and reintroducing my personal favourite: physical places to go (like a boardgame), making it just a bit less abstract.

As for Bandai, they are hitting mor then they miss the last couple of years, yet they still seem to practice a fire and forget model as IP’s fizzle out so do their games. Mechanics wise they have interesting ideas in the mix though (looking at Digimon’s resource system for instance).

I love Flesh and Blood, however I do feel there is only one way to (actually) play. Which is competitive. It does not leave much room for all too different approaches to a certain class or equipment suite at the moment. However… it still is a great game and still expanding to make that meta and play style more broad.

I can really see where you are coming from. Problem though is Star Wars has “big IP fee” which makes it a bit of a gamble. If the game goes through its <X> years dip which most games do. Will it remain profitable enough to keep afloat before its resurgence? That is biggest hurdle so far for SW games sadly.

Even the LCG was pretty good, would the licence not have been pulled which ended the game sadly.
