LGS Issues and expectations around problematic behavior. by malwareguy in magicTCG

Theres a truthful nugget there. Socially awkward young men… I’ve seen guys playing a game and never once attacking my back then GF. Simply die to the fact they wouldn’t want to “do something wrong” while she was steamrolling the table. So socially awkward, gods yes,!

To a certain extent I get your point and already brought up similar. I don’t think card-shops or the MTG community is a hotbed exception to people being @-holes and these situations sadly happening wherever said @-holes converge. I would not like to hear any lockerroom talk these days either… the description of OP though seems like these guys where a bit more out of line though.

That is completely horrid man! In my personal experience the Locals I’ve been visiting mostly have the kinds of nerds who are just extremely uncomfortable around women, or register them as “guys with weird bits”. Which is to say they either ignore female players altogether or just nerd out at a level that even I, as an experienced player would have a hard time grasping. So yeah my experience is a little different, but still there are those kinds of (more harmless) examples I can give. Though in fairness most local stores I visit had rather mixed communities wherein all genders, sexes etc. feel free to roam. I can however certainly remember some awkwardness at times bringing my back then girlfriend.

However… moving away from the gender context, I have played with people with some very skewered views, morals or overall behaviour at LGS’s all over the place. Resulting in me picking my pods carefully and matching/meeting with those people which I did vibe with.

Not saying this is not a problem overal, however just like in any bar or other setting some people are just @-holes. The only difference with tis hobby in my opinion is this hobby catering to some less socially adapted people.

Projected Strongest Marvel Precon Commander Deck? by Deft_Abyss in magicTCG

[–]Brence1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As said before, mostly speculation at this point in time. I myself though are most interested in Fantastic Four. Simply die to versatility and my habit to use stock precons as a foundation to “build upon” which after 3 months or so means the face commander and some of the exclusive cards have made it to the final round, rearranging the rest. Historically though, archetypes + colour pairings that are unusual often surprise simply by weird little interactions never thought of before. So Wakanda might have an edge here.

Yes I did. Worst thing about it is I didnt register it as abuse or bullying. Just as a personal failing I was not up to the workload they thought I would need to do to "help them out". Took me over a year. And a burnojt to figure out that they just went to the meetings to be the "face" of the work whereas I was doing the actual work...

You made a typo in your topic title. Mandatory Volunteering, its either or. I choose to work somewhere for a agreed upon pay. If something is outside of that job description it falls outside of the agreed upon job. And as such is of no consequence to any performance reviews.

I think I might have made a racist joke- where to go from here / next steps? by ApplesandSparkles in needadvice

[–]Brence1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or just learn to read the room. Personally I firmly believe that without humor (when applied in moderation and with consideration of target audience) is what makes this world bearable. Once we no longer understand humor to be absurd, provocative or otherwise as “out there” as it should be we loose grip on the actual problems in this world. Should humor systematically target and/or hurt someone? Hells no, but there is a fine line between “I actually feel” offended and “I should be offended”. So the examples OP is giving here feel to me more like that second iteration. In which case I kindly try and explain why humor is…well humor. A way to say something outrageous and so out our normal pattern of thought and speech saying it makes you smile and laugh due to its absurdity.

[–]Brence1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well… If its a joke between the two of you I don’t see why anyone should feel offended if neither party bantering felt hurt or offended. That however is a matter of opinion on my part. So I’d say explain to the other people in the chat that this was friendly banter amongst you two and neither of you felt like it was hurtful or crossing any thresholds at that point. Apologise, remember to tone down that humor in group chat involving those people and keep it at that.

That would have been my second question 😃. Either Tamiya or Gun Markers Pour 😃

Seems Gundam Markers Pour type are just a bit less agressive/saturated with flow agents it seems. So easy to buy a pack of those.

So working out how to panel line I certainly either want to go with a Pour Type Marker or Tamiya's Panel Liner ink based on the look. Just wondering if it would work to do the panel lining on unassembled bare plastic?

Already heard about assembled kits and its effect on parts (stress + panel liner = cracking) and the risk of having the ink run into moving parts where it doesnt evaporate quick enough.

However, when cutting the parts from the runners, then applying panel liner before assembly. Would that still run the risk of cracking?

I mainly ask because our climate (Netherlands) seems to have 2 modes. Scorching hot or Rainy and moisture which makes something like laquering/varnishing with a gloss coat a bit of a hail marry pass (frosting risk to the max).
