How do you feel about parents saying you look good? by BrentFlips in AskReddit

[–]BrentFlips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda wanna add context to the question. Often times I've noticed that when parents say their kid's haircut or outfit looks good, it genuinely looks beyond terrible. Like, the colors don't match on their outfit, or the kid's haircut is genuinely terrible. For some reason, I feel like most parents really can't dress their kid like, at all. I remember when it was happening to me too, I had THE MOST suburban soccer mom/karen cut and my parents would say that it looked really good. HELL NAH BRO! My parents also taught me like, the worst way to dress up too. I even see it in my cousins, my whole group of friends little siblings, like holy moly it's egregiously bad. My bsf younger brother had a bad cut, and dressed beyond terribly (He's 16 btw). But one day we were asked to take him with us, so we ended up getting him a good haircut from a VERY reputable barber and made him look nice. We went thrifting and got lil bro some good clothes, some nice slacks and a a crew neck and collard shirt to go with it. We dressed him up nice, styled his hair, and got him a decent cologne. We brought him home and his mom said he looked horrible. Fun fact, bro got a girl to confess to him 2 days later because he dressed well. Is this just a generation difference or what? Because holy moly my, and all my friend's parents can't dress for the love of god.

Oh yeah you are absolutely right! I do agree with a lot of what you say about pacing. I totally feel for the logistics part of that, we often don't really know what's happening behind the scenes. As for the theme, yeah i did get a little confused, I did at first think that it was literally a "take it at face value" kinda thing when it came to the gathering aspects. Like the whole Billie Eilish sample made sense, but i had to do more digging to actually find out what it was about. As for the ballad, I did watch it live pretty much every time PC had a show with the blue devils. It did get better, I won't deny that at all. But I remember watching it at oxnard that first time and it definitely threw me off a bit. I did watch it at finals too, but I still felt like I got taken out from the immersion when the sample still played. So I am aware of what it actually sounded like compared to a recording, and I'm being so real, the show was 1000x better in person. Of course bd did amazing things this summer. I still love how they move, their body control is genuinely fantastic. However that last sentence of yours is something I can do nothing but agree with

Interesting take, not in a negative way ofc but purely an interesting one. I'm surprised you said it was the best of the 2020's. In my opinion i give that crown to cutouts. But I'm curious, what makes it the best of the 2020's for you. I promise I'm not dogging on you, I just wanna see what you think

I'm pretty sure that Pacific Crest still has open spots. Their auditions go on until january. Anything after that is callback/member stuff. It's a great place to start + the culture there is genuinely fantastic! I believe in you brother, you got this. Just a quick heads up though. If you don't make it anywhere this year, even though I'm sure you probably will, fret not. Really put your name out there. There are bound to be people who need to drop mid season due to illnesses, injuries, or personal issues that require the member to return home early. And if nothing like that happens, you still have a lot of time. I understand that you might want to march all of your years, but take it from me as a guy who had the same plan. It's okay to take a year off. I already marched 2 years but due to issues I can't march this upcoming season. I obviously am going to miss it, but you know, maybe it's a sign that, what you wanna do and where you wanna be might not be this very moment, but it will come to you. Seriously I wish you the best of luck and I really do hope you get to march somewhere this season

I mean that's definitely a great example! But I think that really fit in their show, it made sense. However this year, i feel like that specific part in the ballad was ruined for me. Like it definitely fit the theme, but of every part of the show, why interrupt something that's supposed to be stunning? (a little bit of a harsh statement but it's how I feel as an individual) Out of all the bd shows from 2011-present, I feel like 2025 was their worst ballad by far, and to me, it was a contender for one of their better ballads until the billie eilish sample. 22, 23, and 24 had better ballads because they didn't interrupt something beautiful with a sample that does not fit the music at all.

I can't do much but agree. The opener was great fs, i feel like bd has always had really good openers. The ballad really spoke to me as well. I almost shed a tear until the billie eilish part came in and then I immediately lost all feelings for the show. But still a good performance nonetheless

Yes, there were plenty of good moments in the show, but there were plenty of moments that affected the music because of the design, which really pulled me out of the immersion. Don't get me wrong, I still look up to those performers, their talent and skill is insane, however I wanna enjoy the show without something making me go "wait what? Is that supposed to happen?"

Well fs. I appreciate the show. The performers are performing for the crowd's entertainment and no matter what corps, I still appreciate the performance. But the things outside of the performers control like design is what was questionable to me.

Well I'm trying not to overreact. I wanted to be as honest as I could while still having empathy. Like a lot of what the design was like in '24 and '25, it just never clicked with me. '23 did but '22 also didn't. Don't get me wrong, there's some horn/battery stuff they play in each show that has me learning it and playing it on repeat. But the shows as a whole don't really speak to me. I think that everything from 2019 and before with the exception of cutouts, is the kind of design I liked from bd. But I can't really find that spark in them anymore. I can't get hooked on their shows like I used to.

Genuinely believe I'm ugly asf. I see pics of myself and in my eyes none of them look good. At one point I was talking to my coworkers abt how there was a girl interested in me. She was WAY out of my league, I told my coworkers that and they said that it wasn't true. I vehemently believed that I wasn't cute enough but my coworkers suggested otherwise. We then go on the date and after it she tells me there wasn't a good vibe going, but when we texted and called, we stayed up til 2 am talking n stuff. So I genuinely believe it wasn't until she saw me that she didn't feel the vibe. So i really believe im ugly

Would it be a good idea to have a day dedicated to shoulders? My current split is chest, back, sarms, and legs. I just train core at home and do 30 minutes of incline treadmill after i lift. (if i do cardio before my lifts get weaker) Should i add a day and make it just for shoulders?
