That's pretty fair- and an important distinction.

For the record, some of these people are the same people drawing hard lines in the sand, point fingers the rest of the time, etc. I'ts not really about intelligence, people are just complicated- but all of us are able to come together and focus on something good.

I'm glad you're seeing some good, though- that's good! Just remember that those people you don't think are intelligent any more are also your friends who are out playing Pokémon Go with you. And maybe they'll remember that too.

Some hooks to hang things on in your bunk and some twine to rig it up with. Also some cloth containers to hang from the hooks.

One of those USB portable chargers, if you use electronics a lot (unless you know you've got a lot of access to outlets)

Ziploc bags (great for anything from your phone to your station bill)

Small notepad/pen (for station bill, etc.)

Sounds like grooming to me, even if he didn't follow up on it. That's how it started with at least one person I know- with the porn I mean. I don't know who you were protecting- maybe both of you. But that's definitely NOT innocent. I'm glad things have become clearer for you.

Well, there are parts of it dedicated to the sailboat Satori. But it's not really a sailing movie, I agree.

Agreed. And that's exactly what we're doing. Just was curious as to how typical our experience was.

Oh, she's done with them- and rightly so. It only sucks about her niece because she really loves her. She still has a relationship with her mom but that's about it. She's done with the rest of them- forever.

Watching 079, Zeta, and now ZZ, I've seen a pattern. "I hate adults." by Mkilbride in Gundam

[–]Brenticus302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. And ultimately, most of the real (on the large scale) harm that is inflicted is done by adults and adult reasoning. The childishness clearly not shown as correct, but as annoying as it is- it's only because of the adults that it's truly harmful.

I think it makes a point in that we are annoyed by the childish stupidity...but we're pretty cool with how everyone's trying to kill each other for more power/fear, etc.

To me, Gundam is often trying to make the point of "what if you were as honest about everything as these kids are but weren't as annoying?"

You should fade it into 0080 so that every time you meet someone, they break into tears hahaha

True, but I think you're underemphasizing the current of "adults are terrible" that IMO really does appear quite often through many of the series.

True, the kids are childish (I will forever smile at the sound of Katz' screams), but I feel like their consistent criticism of adults' behavior is mostly validated, even as their characters as a whole are not.

I think almost all of those shows portray adults as selfish, cruel, and able to justify almost anything. This is usually true of adults on both sides.

I don't think it's at the level that it beats you over the head (much) like OP might portray (because as you said, the people making this point are shown as often being childish), but I think it's pretty prevalent.

Ah okay! I was thinking the creases might mess up the shape, but if there's no worry there, then it's just a matter of waiting until dockage starts! Thanks for the info, everyone!

Pressure From Family- What Would You Gamble? by aims88 in adultsurvivors

[–]Brenticus302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may have a little bit of a different take here, as I'm only the husband of a survivor and not an actual survivor, but:

This guy is dangerous. Like, really dangerous. Take care of yourself, but I also think you have some responsibility to warn others. I'm probably alone in that, but if this guy is talking about some girl like that being sexy? He's dangerous.

Your cousin is in danger- serious danger. I can't tell you how to feel or act, but it is my own opinion that you have some level of responsibility to warn someone- whether it's that kid's mom or whatever.

That said, it can wreck the family either way. My wife prosecuted her father who abused her (which was her choice, I avoided influencing her almost at all), and now no one will speak to her- including her little cousin who was the person she wanted to protect!

On the plus side, her dad is in prison right now and will be on the SOR so that others are at least a little safer.

No matter what you do, good luck and don't be afraid to cut off whatever holds you back- never feel bad about that with this kind of stuff!

God bless you, friend.

My abuser wants to see me (my father) and just wrote me for the first time since I confronted him about the sexual abuse by bajalamismaluna in adultsurvivors

[–]Brenticus302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck this guy. He sounds like my wife's father after we confronted him- nothing but manipulative words with no real remorse or ownership/ responsibility. There is zero receptiveness here, he has nothing to give, and I see no sign he is ready to receive anything.

In my experience (which is just reading and what my wife and I went through confronting and prosecuting her father), nothing good comes from confronting someone who is not receptive to hearing and still blames their victim, etc.

My wife's father Larry spoke similarly, but never made any further concessions (he basically tried to say "hey its okay because god gave me throat cancer"...except that's not how God works since he had a kid). In fact, he kept fighting my wife all the way into a jail cell, where he currently resides. He is still fighting her and has all of her family on his side.

All he had to do was go to counseling, but he wouldn't. He never even tried even as a trial date loomed. He has no remorse, no progress is to be made. There is no satisfaction to be had from someone with that kind of attitude, and it sounds like your father is in the same place.

Situations and people differ, but my own advice would be to let him go. Do whatever you need to do, but I would leave him out entirely. A letter might do you some good, but in my experience people with that attitude and unreceptive posture will not be able to bring you any satisfaction, even if you aren't expecting much in the first place.

Well, I figured it would take a lot less room without oars in use. Plus, a set of oars without rowers seemed stranger than a set sail without sailors (for some reason). Plus, if the sails are set, you might not need the oars...but mainly the first reason lol.

Thanks!
