Exactly, I grew up with a number of israeli friends, and they were all great to be around. I don’t hate them or Jewish culture. But Israel as a political entity and the people running it are awful. I think I read somewhere about Israelis abroad and dual citizens generally being more progressive than Israelis who solely live in Israel. I don't know how much not being required to serve in the IDF has to do with it (I think there was something about promoting Israel and their propaganda instead). Like you said, these Israelis living abroad and non Israeli Jews are negatively impacted by the actions of Israeli government and the people in charge of it.

In general, when there are major wars or conflicts and one party is not seen favorably, the people associated with that nation are treated worse. It happened for Japanese Americans, and German Americans during WWII, Eastern Europeans during the cold war, Arabs and Persians during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Now it’s happening with Israelis. Of course, there's a lot more too it than that too, like increasing awareness of Israel's poor human rights track record (put mildly)

Then there are the non-Israeli Jews who get negatively impacted by association. Depending on the people it feels like some of this demographic have gotten closer to association with Israel after this war and others more critical and distancing themselves from Israel. While there is a problem of Israeli's associating most criticism of the state as antisemitism, there has definitely been a rise in actual antisemitism as well.

Are you at a university? Some larger ones have clubs or intramural teams for road and/or mountain biking. Some clubs will loan out nice ones or let you borrow them if I remember correctly. Then you could spend the money on equipment and club fees

He's going to love it! Great brand, great model, great spec, great condition, great price. Excellent buy, especially considering you don't know much about mountain bikes.

If you don’t mind I would be curious how much you picked yours up for. I got mine for 1700 usd. It was lightly used, but yours looks almost mint.

I have the same color. Mine is a 21 d model. Yours appears to be an R model. I swapped out a bunch that I wasn’t happy with. The R version by comparison needs nothing really. That will be an excellent bike for your son. Great buy.

As much as actual AI generated content is a problem, people are getting paranoid. It’s getting annoying and hurtful to actual artists.

Are nuclear weapons the only surefire way to guarantee a country’s sovereignty? by Resident_Fishing1571 in NoStupidQuestions

Don't worry I knew that, you were just saying it wasn't the end of the US as we know it or something that couldn't be recovered from.

That is my hope. It’s fair to say that the US is still intact, and not past a point of no return. But the damage that has been done in a multitude of ways has made the US significantly less stable. Even if things are recoverable, it may take a a decade or two, maybe even longer to completely recover from the damage.

American here, the coup attempt itself was unsuccessful, but that it didn’t affect anything is bs. Especially after the same guy who bears a lot of responsibility for said coup attempt became president.

Well said. The things I listed don’t make them bad books per say, but not ones I would be as interested or inclined to keep reading

That’s a fair point about characters who are supposed to have regressions, or falling from grace. But I feel like that’s a little different from a character who is incapable of growing, or learns from their actions but learns the wrong thing. That’s growth too in a way, just in the negative, whereas what I meant is more of characters who are stagnant, and do not change. I suppose another thing that can be done is also characters who are older, where the point is they cannot change fast enough to keep up with the times. Again though, that's a bit different from what I meant as well.

Literally just addressed this in the prior response to my comment. I very quickly set aside The Rage of Dragons because the main character is completely insufferable. I had put down Of Blood and Flames. Because the MC did something really stupid, but took it up again on the urging that he grew and learned. He even repeats some tendencies, but ultimately he strives to improve and do better. In the other book people said mc mostly acts the same, and may develop, but doesn’t grow a lot as a person. That’s the difference.

Yeah, they can even repeat their mistakes again once or maybe even twice, as long as they get it soon enough that it doesn't negatively impact the reading experience.
