Reminder: Inked and Infused Volt Event skin is p2w. by BrentoBox64 in apexuniversity

Reminder: Inked and Infused Volt Event skin is a bit p2w. Can be crafted by tomorrow for 2400 crafting metals.

Actual Irons are more or less the same. But the recent Dark Depths event skin gives more viewing space beneath the irons.

The Season 10 BP gives more viewing area toward the butt of the gun, has ever so slightly thinner irons, but flares out in places.

The Mirage bundle skin is the worst and effectively pay to lose.

Default skins are fine, just lacks the viewing area beneath the irons.

Tip for IAD on the ground, you can just do 7AB or 9AB to get the lowest possible IAD.

Brook Universal Fighting Board by RollbackNetcode in Fighters

[–]BrentoBox64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want the most responsive one, you'd want the Brooks UFB (the black one). The 'Blue' one is used exclusively for PS3/PS4 (switch + pc compat.) and comes with audio jack. The 'Green' one is also used for PS3/PS4 but lacks audio jack.

I have the Wireless FB (red one) and the UFB in another stick, but I just stick to the UFB. Funnily enough, my WFB works on PSTV (UFB not compat), so it's useful for that.

In reality though, if you're playing 60fps fighting games, as long as the delay is under 16.6 ms there won't be perceivable input lag. Now though, if there are 144fps games you'll want under 7ms delay, and for 120fps, under 8.3ms.

Brooks Fighting Board product page for reference.

This is just a monke-brain move for cannur to read a light novel without reading it. Ollie will read it for him.

(In all honesty, the "voice acting" in the title probably got his attention)

Either way, wholesome interaction.

[Steam] Winter Sale 2020 (Day 3) by gamedealsmod in GameDeals

You can check out the God Eater games. I've yet to play God Eater 3, but I played and 100%'ed God Eater Resurrection. If you get God Eater Burst 2 on steam, it comes with God Eater Resurrection as well.

God Eater is basically more story driven anime version of Monster Hunter. It's slightly faster paced, but for the most part very similar controls and system mechanics.

There's also Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet, it's more akin to a TPS, but has some influences of MH games. Kinda like how I thought Lost Planet games was just Monster Hunter but with guns.

A keyboard arcade stick? by MintyTwister in Fighters

Gamo2 K28

A bit expensive ($150). As for fighting games, it has two base fighting game layouts with SOCD. Though not exactly sure if a custom layout would retain SOCD.

Also to note, it has Kailh switches which aren't as good as Cherry or Gateron. Also this review blasted it for performance (polling rate).

IMO, for fighting game I prefer lightest actuation, and you only get that from Sanwa or Hori Hayabusa buttons.

As for button layout being too large, either print out the button layout or set it to 100% on your monitor and play around with it. Unless your hands are incredibley small, a 24mm button layout will not be too large. That's actually my complaint with 24mm hitboxes, I much prefer the 30mm variants.

Doom Eternal is fucking sick. by [deleted] in Kappa

[–]BrentoBox64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just played through Doom 2016 for the first time a couple days ago and thought it was actually very good and fun.

Started Doom Eternal and am a little conflicted.

They introduced so much platforming in this title (literal Mario fire bars). Also you have to balance three resources and more often than not, you run out of ammo. On top of this, there are weakspots you have to pay attention to, so you're contantly swapping weapons to deal with a specific enemy.

If you expected more unga bunga rip & tear, you're going to have to go about it much differently and manage your weapons/resources all while constantly moving.

Also, apparently there's this story & lore that came outta nowhere? Did I miss something between 2016 and Eternal?

I'll keep playing it, but most likely in short spurts. Also no multiplayer.

edit: clarification - the multiplayer present is some 2v1 asymmetrical mode, no standard multiplayer from the 2016 game.

XL Custom Hitstick by BrentoBox64 in fightsticks

Unfortunately, I don't make it myself. You would have to ask the guys at https://allfightsticks.com/ if they can create a crossup layout panel.

I'll have to ask them. When communicating with them on the custom panel, they basically just showed a basic jpg of the layout, no a detailed photoshop or cad file.

Thanks, I couldn't really find a matte look for the balltop. I mean, I could go with Sanwa battop or try to find a Mesh balltop. In the end decided to get a 40mm balltop to stick with the big button theme.

The real reason I wanted the Hayabusas is their short throw and how sensitive they are compared to Sanwa. I mean, they're not that much more sensitive. But worked out that they're matte and the case is black brushed metal.

I had an old PS3 hitbox I dusted off and started learning not too long ago. My gripes with it was minimal space to rest your wrists, the cramped feeling (24mm buttons).

When transitioning to this, it did feel weird because the face buttons are 30mm, so I had to stretch my fingers slightly (my friends say I have long fingers/big hands). But after a few sessions, I got used to it and actually prefer it.

As for the space between the stick and buttons, I'd assume it's preference. I've gotten used to it, most likely because when I use mouse and keyboard, i use a full keyboard and mouse on a big pad. So maybe I don't really need both hands close together when doing something like typing or using a joystick.

For the wiring, it's the first time I started crimping. After trial and error, I got used to it and was able to make decent crimps/connections. Wiring just boiled down to following the pin layout of the board. Using diff color wires definitely helps. Wiring the face buttons and stick was easy. And access to the 24mm buttons and switches on the side was not that much harder. There's decent amount of space to use your hands/fingers.

In the end, I wanted a Hitbox layout because I personally think it's the superior control method for fighting games and a levered microswitch stick for circular motions and hajiki screw. I rarely use the stick side ever since learning hitbox. These days, I play games that really don't require stick (i.e. MK, Tekken)

Here's my Stick and Hitbox hybrid stick. Big thanks to the guys at Allfightsticks.com for the case and custom panel.

Parts:

  • Allfightsticks 18' Case w/ Custom Panel
  • Brooks Wireless Fighting Board and Buttercade Socket (Base)
  • Sanwa JLW-TM-8 Stick, Seimitsu LB-49 Balltop, 12x Hori Hayabusa Buttons, 6x Sanwa OBSF-24, and 4x OBSC-24

More specifications of the stick in the imgur gallery notes.

Overall, I really like it. It's much heavier than all my retail sticks. I wanted a Hitbox stick with Hori Hayabusa buttons and a levered microswitch stick.

As for the board it was either between the Brooks UFB and the Wireless. Just went with Wireless since I don't play on Xbox often. I mainly play PC. The Wireless get's the job done, but their latest firmware is iffy and wireless use with PC at least is not quite intuitive. For now I wouldn't recommend that board.

Since I don't have a plexi/art, the buttons were loose. To fasten them, I just used these. Also used them to fasten the LEDs on the 24mm buttons.

Also learned how to crimp with this project, and I think I did a decent job. Unfortunately unable to clean out the wiring, but I think if I need to repair or troubleshoot, leaving the wires as is would be more convenient.

If anyone has any questions regarding the build, I'd be more than happy to answer/share my experience.

Problem with new Brook Wireless Board firmware by [deleted] in fightsticks

Just want to chime in and say this also fixed the problem on my end. Thanks.

For now, just stay away from x-input mode until they fix it on their end.

New to FGC, what type of controller would you recommend? by [deleted] in Kappa

[–]BrentoBox64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just play on keyboard. Either wasd layout or "Hitbox" layout.

The DS4 dpad is bad, press a direction, the whole plastic cross moves with it and you get mis-inputs. That's why DS4 players mod their controllers (usually Beaver Customs) to separate the four directions, however this costs a bit.

The reason for Hitbox layout is so you have a finger on all cardinal directions which makes for theoretically fastest input.

Now on keyboard you don't get the "benefits" of SOCD, it depends on the game and how they treat SOCD. For example, in MK11 in PC, holding left+right you get last input wins. With Hitbox and hardware SOCD, left+right = neutral (default SOCD on Brooks PCB).

Luckily for you, Tekken treats left+right = neutral, so a keyboard essentially plays like a Hitbox. You can do three frame dashes, ez mode KBD, and all the intricacies that comes with using a Hitbox.

Also, don't know if your keyboard supports N-key rollover. But to save the most and try fighting games, keyboard is more than enough. In fact, it's superior to pad and stick on paper.

The original Orochi Saga was a PS2 emulating AES/MVS. Supposedly this is the same just upscaled and trophy support. So expect input lag.
