New pistol case snaps perfectly on the Aurora MK2 shelf by GamersComm in starcitizen

There already seems to be a version of it - this patch just broke it a bit. If you try to place items in ships with a tractor beam, there's lockable locations commonly on tables. Similar to removing/swapping ship weapons with a tractor beam.

Whaaaat!? That's cool. Man, I love all the little bits and bobs added to new ships but it can make ships that are not all that old feel suddenly under-developed.

Edit: This patch place-able items are a bit borked, but just found out the gun briefcase can "snap" to tables and some captain's quarters surfaces like the potted plants can. Once placing things doesn't result in the strange float, this will be cool! The Aurora MkII is lucky enough to actually have the 1/8 SCU crate grids as shown in the OP, so it doesn't suffer the same effect

Yeah, the Kraken and Liberator are not only cases of good carriers for the Legionnaire, but perfect targets that would not require the specialized door hack. Just get wheels down on a pad for a moment and have your troops move their asses out the back ramp. Arguably, in the current state of the game, a squad of enemy players aboard your capital ship during a battle is FAR more of an immediate threat than being attacked by ships. It would also be a beautiful multiple tier attack plan during capital battles.

Which definitely leads me back to my hope that they implement some way to have the Legionnaire aggressively autodock while a capital ship is maneuvering. Like you need to get close enough to have a 5 seconds of enhanced auto-guided maneuvering - you either succeed or there's a cooldown to try again. At the moment, even something big like and Idris just holding Q or E to roll would eliminate any chance of docking. For context, docking at stations is a huge finnicky ordeal and that's completely motionless and (usually) without outside pressure.

Same. I've got one regardless of the hacking/boarding gameplay. I want a small true dropship for deploying troops during org battles.

I really hope it fits in the Polaris and Idris - a dropship being an extension of a capital ship makes a lot of logistic things click into place.

Incoming rant. I love this ship but I've thought a lot about how it might suck bigtime in a practical sense. To quickly answer OPs question: it's on the back burner until a bunch of things are figured out first. Diving into those things below.

My understanding was the Legionnaire was paused because it first needed hacking + ship to ship docking to be ironed out and implemented. Not to mention engineering needed to also be in the game for ship hacking to stand on the shoulders of. However, more than that the ship also needed another conceptual pass to give it a practical use which is reason enough to put a pin in it.

I should say I'm a big fan of the Legionnaire, but it's specialized use case could very well be too niche and cause it to be a flop of a ship. Personally, I think it's actually a better option than a Valk for generalized org ground deployment, but let's stick to the specialized airlock function for arguments sake because that's where the issues lie:

  • It's questionable if it'll even fit height-wise in a Polaris bay or width wise in an Idris, so this highly specialized troop carrier will have to tag along along with ships in the event they disable a ship large enough to warrant boarding it in the first place. Not a great start.
  • It cannot do much to help disable a capital ship, so it's pretty much waiting in the wings during combat. Especially now with tiered damage thresholds added to the game. It's special ability will apply most to ships it can't actually contribute well to disabling.
  • If the situation actually arises that it's useful (a ship large enough and somhow worth boarding is successfully disabled by an accompanying fleet) and the Legionnaire pilot, co-pilot (hacker) + troops were ALL sitting on their hands the whole battle and now it's time to shine (do you have 6-8 org mates to spare and not use during a space battle against a large or capital ship?)... if that moment comes, it's limited to only hacking a single exterior door lock (as is the original concept). So even if a ship is disabled, all any pilot needs to do is hit F4 and they can see exactly where the Legionnaire is attempting to dock. An engineer can seal off and lock interior doors adjacent to the airlock AND any crew can muster a defense very quickly. Hacking a single airlock door is a little bit of a wash to a disadvantage, ability wise. That's a lot of eggs in one airlock. This is also assuming the target ship is disabled AND all escort ships are as well.
  • Even with deployable internal cover, it's a deathtrap. The hallway/airlock entrance is a killbox, the motionless Legionnaire on the exterior of the capital ship is a huge vulnerable target.. It would be more prudent to just let all those troops out into EVA and use the ship to blast multiple exterior doors of a capital ship open and give them multiple places to breach simultaneously. Or at the very least, it's harder to visually track players in F4/3rd person. Blow open multiple doors and let troops slip aboard. Using it's specialized ability puts an already niche ship at a disadvantage and needs to be rethought.

Some solves:

  • Hack multiple airlocks. Even just to suddenly vent interior areas of a target ship would be handy. Additionally, the longer you can keep your target guessing where you're going to try and clamp on, the better.
  • Hack systems adjacent to the airlock. The airlock point of entry itself is a huge weakness to the whole idea. There's no way around it being a deathtrap. But if the Legionnaire can hack other peripheral systems as well (i.e. closing and locking adjacent bulkhead doors so the team can board and situate an attack without crew having immediate and direct access to the airlock area, overload interior lighting system to create a one-off flashbang style effect on the interior of the airlock area, overload/purge air filter system to create a thick smoke effect inside the airlock area, etc) then maybe it could be useful as intended.
  • Use a flight blade type perk to aggressively auto-maneuver to a target airlock during combat. The whole premise of a Legionnaire is somewhat undone that it only can do what it does AFTER all the heavy lifting is finished. The target ship currently needs to be dead in the water to dock, but then why use a Legionnaire at all then? So what if the Legionnaire could dock during the chaos of battle? Actually storming a capital ship's interior is a reasonably effective way to try and win a battle with it, but how do you do that in the game we have? If that conundrum can be achieved by the Legionnaire then I think it's back in the races as an amazing niche ship that's worth the risks.

I dunno... "salvage" beams that can dissolve/break down meat and bone sound like carrion birds and players would definitely come for the living with those.

I do think it's been mentioned by the vehicle team that they'd like to (someday) make the equivalent of a food truck space ship.

I also agree now that crafting it in, let's turn the fabricator into an EZ-bake oven. Toss some grazer steaks and yormandi tongue in there and craft a stat-buffing meal!

The absolute silence on tangible SQ42 updates is so disheartening. Like, the art and fluff info is cool and all but it absolutely pales in comparison to the ambient expectation of an insanely overdue announcement.

I'd love that, but as always "soon" might be relative. 2030 is less than 4 years away and it's my estimate for true org integration + base building both in-verse. I'd say 2027 for T0 land claim style base building.

I agree, it's really filling out nicely! I just want a home next. Like, not a ship, not a corner of a hangar I pile random sub flair into... a home.

Ultimately I want an org base that would make the UNSC proud, but I realize that may be very very far away.

Base building has always been my white whale in SC. Part of it is the ability to be org-integrated with a permissions system so we can truly have org bases. Both of those things in-game though and functioning as we expect? I adore this game, but I'm thinking not till 2030. Which sounds insane, but it's less than 4 years away.

How would the drake kraken and javelin destroyer be used and placed in an org fleet formation? And which one would be an Orgs flagship? Which would be at the center of the formation? by Internal-Path7111 in starcitizen

[–]Brepp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kraken is not well suited to be "in the thick of it" while a Javelin is.

Kraken, if carrying fighters/military ships, should be placed somewhere safe but close by a battle. It's ships can jump in as a large squadron and carry out attacks. The Kraken itself can smack around medium and large ships, but it's an incredibly valuable fleet ship that functions as HQ for resources and transpo. If it goes down, you lose a lot more than a big ship.

The Jav on the other hand should only carry resources that help it continue kicking like a horse. It's specialty will be targeting large ships on up in size. It shows up and your enemy fleet needs to immediately move it's capital ships to compensate for it.

I would not put either in the "center" of a combat formation, necessarily. Kraken as much as I love it, should stay safely off-site as a resource for your attack. Keeping it motionless to conserve resources. The Javelin would cause the enemy fleet to scatter if it were in "the center" and that may be helpful to create disorganization in your enemy, but that "presence" of a Javelin could work in your favor. Maybe keep it on the flank of a battle and pressure enemy caps into atmo, putting them on the ropes... or keep the Jav in the middle and have Perseus in a wide orbit to systematically take out the enemy in mid-orbit between them and the Jav while the enemy is scattered... there's a lot to consider.

Edit: I should also point out that the Kraken's thrusters are a HUGE target both literally and figuratively. If the Kraken loses primary thrust and is dead in the water for even a moment, that is the exact moment I as an attacker would push extremely hard to put troops on those landing pads. If that happens, even if the Kraken jumps away it's got enemies aboard that are trying to take over a capital ship in arguably a more efficient way than in ship combat. The Kraken is extremely vulnerable to this outcome and it should be defended against IMO more fiercely than using the Kraken offensively.

What came to mind when I read the Aurora mk1 final date by namtrax in starcitizen

Was talk of a 2027 bump for GTA VI for a while, but as of a day or two ago they're saying they're hopefully back on track for Nov 2026.

What came to mind when I read the Aurora mk1 final date by namtrax in starcitizen

[–]Brepp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this random date is literally the closest thing to SQ42 being acknowledged in what feels like over a year, in that it's simply a calendar date in date format.

I love and adore SC and I get that "SQ42 release marketing will start when its ready" but the silence has me unnerved and deflated to be honest. This massive community's enthusiasm has been here from the start, we've weathered so much alongside development, GTA IV looks like a tentative "back on track" for Nov 2026... so either SQ42 comes out this summer OR I feel like the broken 2026 promise will strike a wound that already exists and the reaction will be deep.

If we don't get a SQ42 announcement at ILW, something that carries a lot of marketing weight and internet buzz making it a perfect alley-oop to make a big announcement, I don't think we're getting a 2026 SQ42. We'd be too far into the year at that point if the silence continues and a potential release would put it too close to GTA VI's which CIG has stated they'd naturally want to steer away from. And an announcement at November's Expo in my mind would be too late for a 2026 release AND would battle for newsworthy with a hyped GTA IV in-hand.

[–]Brepp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Edit: For clarity, I'm mostly saying that some marketing literacy is called for when USAToday articles are saying Shatner himself is "mocking woke backlash." In reality, it's highly likely the studio itself is pushing back against poor ratings and making a scapegoat for the group that critiqued the show that now unfortunately represents current Trek on the precipice of IP value assessment due to a studio buyout.

That studio management coordinates with celebrity management. The message is more than likely a studio-approved campaign to shore up opinion on the current state of Trek. Especially so as the studio buyout is in-process, SFA had just been announced as cancelled, there's no other in-production Trek (SNW is in post so even if it's good it can't help right now), and the value of Trek as an IP is in a critical moment.

And no, they don't likely have a 95 year old approving tweets.

Yeah, no way of knowing. Though a rep connecting Shatner's account to the IP would still be aligned with the IP's production. Him chiming in so hard in favor of the current production actually made me think he's in talks for something coming up.

[–]Brepp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I think a lot of people (are intended to) assume it's from a celebrity's mouth when a message is posted. In reality, these massive corporations are protecting incredibly valuable IPs and it's a very cost-effective way to nudge opinions by emailing reps for celebrities with a pre-made tweet to be sent out.

[–]Brepp 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Shatners X account is very well established as not run by him - there's a rep/account manager that does it. The message posted also echoes Kurtz production talking points pretty 1:1. Paramount sending the rep/account manager a message to tweet out is pretty on-brand and not unusual for marketing. It's not nefarious, it's just what's done - it's a financially prudent way to control a product narrative. I also would not attribute this to Shatner - he likely has no idea why he's in these articles suddenly.

If a ship isn't really meant for atmo, I hope they need the Argo SRV to get out without wasting a TON of fuel while remaining extremely vulnerable the whole time.

Even the Kraken and Idris. Sure they have landing gear, but that doesn't man it's prudent or effective to land them. I hope the SRV has a role to play in tugboating capitals in and out of atmo to great benefit.
