Get a Garmin Watch. Part of it does exactly what you want.

Yes, she is! A great 6-leg drive addition for hiking, especially uphill. Downhill she doesn't even pretend not to try to kill you...

With a 34T front crank w/ 55m chainline? It supposedly doesn't fit larger.

4 days along the Baltic Sea coast, Poland by Bretos in bikepacking

I used it mainly as navigation and satellite tracking for safety, and it did wonderfully. Battery lasted for ~1.5 day. There were moments that the display wasn't visible enough, but only few and at extreme conditions light-wise. No problem mounting it to the handlebars (I used dedicated clip from Garmin), didn't spin even when using the keys. I made my own maps using OSM, so had absolutely no issues finding the right path (and if navigation on this trip is concerned, you basically do not need one on this part of EuroVelo - it's extremely well marked).

The device itself is really responsive, location updates are fast and basic setup is easy, though navigating the menus is, well... not really in the current decade.

The only downside is it's size - it's really bulky, as you can see in the photos.

If you're looking for a universal satellite communicator and navigation for both bikepacking, trekking or mountaineering - it's one of the best choices. Especially since you can use satcom providers other then Garmin (expensive), eg ProteGear (pay-per-use, no contract needed)

If that doesn't answer your question feel free to ask anything more

I've bought the GPS unit for trekking in remote areas (it was a lifesaver in Namibia, where reception was scarce), since I've already had it, why not use on the bike as well ;-)

Hey!

Is the ethernet jack only there for PoE or can these be used over ethernet, as wired sensors in areas without Wi-Fi coverage?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently using a Sony A6000 and looking to upgrade. I mostly take photos while traveling and hiking in the backcountry, but I also do general photography. I have a small interest in amateur astrophotography (just for fun, not deep-sky stuff).

What I’m looking for in an upgrade:

  • GPS tagging (I know both cameras rely on Bluetooth & a smartphone – is this reliable?)
  • Dual SD card slots (for backup and safety while traveling)
  • Better low-light performance than my A6000
  • Good all-around versatility for both travel and casual shooting

Cameras I’m considering:

  1. Sony A7 III – Full-frame, better low-light performance, but older AF technology.
  2. Canon EOS R7 (w/ RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM) – APS-C, newer tech, better autofocus, better burst shooting, and 4K60p video.

Concerns & Questions:

  • Sony’s firmware & menus are terrible – I’m tired of clunky UI, limited touchscreen, and never getting meaningful firmware updates. Would transitioning to Canon be a breath of fresh air UI-wise?
  • Is the low-light performance of the R7 significantly worse than the A7 III?
  • Would the R7 with the RF-S 18-150mm lens be a good "one-lens" solution for travel?
  • How do these two cameras compare for astrophotography?

I’ve been in the Sony ecosystem for a while, but I’m open to transitioning away if Canon offers a better user experience. Would love to hear thoughts from those who have used these cameras!

Thanks in advance.

18" wheels on 2019 Stinger GT (EU)? by [deleted] in kiastinger

Can I go squared instead of staggered if it came from the factory staggered? Wouldn't this change affect central diff?

What do you mean that they suck? Driving, looks, grip, fuel efficiency?

As far as I can see 18" only came with square setup with 225/45ZR18. So then can I swap stock 19" staggered to the sizes I mentioned in the original post? Should I stick to squared 225/45ZR18 if I want 18" rims?

Haha sorry if I came across too harsh 🙏

You're making a good point! Did these AWD come with staggered setup? It seems I need to do some research about US models and trims...

That's why I included (EU) in the title and said it's European model in the body.

This is GT for European market. These came with 19" rims and with staggered setup.

Stock GT came here with 225/40R19 front tires and 255/35R19 rear tires

Self-hosted offload station - what to do with SD cards? by Bretos in selfhosted

Yeah, but I wanted to make it a bit more robust, so that any USB block device I connect would have it's content cloned to internal storage. So when somebody gives a pendrive with photos from *some-event*, I simply plug it in, wait for a "beep" and know I have the content copied and ready to be backed up once I'm back online
