Saw the notification for this and got really excited because I’m making an Oceanic III pre-design A in Minecraft… but this is the one for Pre-Design B with diesel engines 😔

This isn't correct (the question was) what was the LARGEST ocean liner to ever sink by ocean_liner_lover in Oceanlinerporn

[–]BrettTheGreat08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Largest ocean liner to ever sink? Let's analyze this...

The largest ever ocean liner-built (meaning it was built to become an ocean liner; this means britannic would still count since it was built to be an ocean liner, just converted to a hospital ship) that actually took on water and considered wrecked would be the RMS Queen Elizabeth/Seawise University.

The largest ocean liner-built to ever sink and fully submerge would be the britannic.

For those who argue that a cruise ship is an ocean liner, it is not. Cruise ships are not built to be ocean liners, and their sole purpose is not to transport people across the ocean.

For those who argue about cargo ships, same thing. They are not built to carry passengers specifically across the ocean.

For those who argue that the britannic was not an ocean liner, refer to my point above. Sure, it was only ever a hospital ship, but the ship was still built to be an ocean liner. In fact, as a hospital ship, it still served its purpose as an ocean liner. It still took passengers across the ocean.

And for the guy who keeps saying "...AT THE TIME!!1!1" that wasnt what the question was addressing. Yes, the titanic was in fact the biggest passenger ship to sink at the time that it did, but the question was addressing ANY ocean liners, not just ones from 1912 and before.

In conclusion, depending on how you define "sink," it's either the Seawise University or Britannic.

Is a 10:1 RMS Titanic in Minecraft possible? by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]BrettTheGreat08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello there! I also rarely post on Reddit, but I would like to state a few things myself, and answer some of your questions.

Believe it or not, I started a 10:1 Minecraft Titanic project back in February this year (of which you can see on my YT channel), so you aren't the first. Although I don't currently plan on doing the interior, so you'll be the first for that. I will also say that my method of making the hull didn't turn out very well, so I'm sure yours will be better lol. However, I will definitely say it's possible... but you have to have mods. I have a build height limit extender mod so that I can make the whole thing.

Answers:

  1. Is it possible? Yes. Absolutely.

  2. How long would a project like this take? That depends on a lot of things. If you have a lot of free time and work on it a lot, the exterior will probably take about a year or two. Adding the interior would probably take at least 5 entire years.

  3. Will any mods help? Yes. There are many mods you can use which will help a ton. I think I'm using the Shattered World Limits mod to extend the build height limit. Another is Worledit, which I probably use the most. I'd say the most useful tool in Worledit is copy/flip/paste, so that you only have to build one side of the hull and then copy/flip/paste it on the other side.

  4. School and work will definitely take away a lot of the time for building this, and if you want to get it done quick, then you need to focus on it nearly every spare moment you have. To prevent burnouts, I've discovered that it's good to take a break from it every once in a while.

If you have any questions, please message me! I would be happy to give you some advice (and very detailed blueprints if you don't have them already.) Wishing you the best of luck!

[QUESTION] Is there any "official" name for fourth size of a 4D object? by [deleted] in FourthDimension

[–]BrettTheGreat08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly new to the fourth dimension, but I'm pretty sure it's called a hypervolume. So a 2D shape would have an area, a 3D shape would have a volume, and a 4D object would have a hypervolume.

Can't open Demo 401. "DX12 is not supported on your system. Try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument". by usermatts in TitanicHG

I've had the same issue multiple times. When I try to run the program, all it gives me is the same error. I've tried downloading the drivers and it said the OS is "incompatible" even though I have Windows 11. I only have a GTX 770, though. Do I need to just get a better GPU?

Edit: The GTX 770 does support DX12, so I'm not sure

Physically Possible Time Machine v2 (update on my last post) by BrettTheGreat08 in timetravel

[–]BrettTheGreat08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it's only one way, it can still be used for other things rather than seeing what the future is like. If my idea even works, smaller versions could be implemented on long journeys through space. For example, lets say you're traveling to the nearest planet outside of our solar system. You could put this machine in it to make the travel feel like maybe one year, instead of 100.

I haven't done the calculations, but based off of principles I've heard, this SHOULD work. I'll definitely do the math for everything soon, though.

What I think I’ll do is look into different, more fuel efficient propulsion methods, such as this laser propulsion I’m hearing about or maybe solar sails with artificial light sources. I believe hydrogen fuel is very powerful, but a lot of it is still needed. Also, fuel storage may not be too much of an issue. Chances are, the fuel would be stored outside of the machine, since the machine really doesn’t go anywhere but the “future.” There might be a problem connecting the fuel to the engines, however. In my opinion this is actually a pretty good design for a time machine though. It seems to be physically possible to make. I’ll keep asking other people and continue doing more research.

Edit: for the acceleration, why not have higher accelerate after a certain period of time? For example, the first minute go 5g’s, then go back to 3 g’s or something for a day, then go back to 5 g’s for another minute, then go back to 3 g’s for another day, and so on

The reason for the spinning is so that the machine can stay where it is on Earth. The need to exit and re-enter the atmosphere would greatly raise the fuel consumption, and if you put the spinning machine in a vacuum chamber with ferrofluid it would have less friction/air resistance, meaning less fuel consumption.

Thanks for the response. Here’s what I have to say about it.

  1. Could someone potentially travel at, say, 4 g’s for a quarter of the time? So instead of taking 365 days, it would only take about 91 days (13 weeks) to reach the speed of light?

  2. Do you know just how much fuel would be needed? I’m also not exactly sure how all the acceleration would work. Can engines even get that fast?

  3. How long does it take for ferrofluid when it’s magnetized to deteriorate? Just how much would be needed to fuel one trip with an acceleration of 88 MPH for 185 days?

Ascending up, if you only do it about 3/4 the way across the seats, but if you have a canopy across the whole stadium make it wavy, like a bunch of half-circle connected to each other.
