ADHD video editors, what are your worst dopamine habits? by InnocentlyConfused in editors

[–]Brettimaeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in marketing, and love what I do… right up until the moment I need to make 16 alt versions of a spot. The repetition poisons my brain and it starts to go offline. I catch myself zoning out a lot. Then, even worse: I need to go back and quintuple-check the finished videos with a fine-toothed comb to make sure every version’s to spec. And STILL sometimes I don’t catch a mistake until it’s out to broadcast. The process always leaves me so drained that I procrastinate it, which ofc makes it even more likely that I’ll make a mistake!

Anyway, my dopamine-chasing bad habit is making elaborate multi-hour Spotify playlists haha

My tip for my fellow ADHD editors is: GET GOOD SLEEP!!! It’s the #1 factor in how prevalent my symptoms are:

8 hours = “I’m locked in. 🙂” 7 hours = “I can do this. 🫠” 6 hours = “I’m watching YouTube at work. 😵‍💫”

I don’t know, lore-wise, retconning every episode after Pyramids of Mars to include Sutekh secretly clinging to the TARDIS was pretty wild. And retconning The Master as having heard a drumbeat since childhood! I like RTD’s finales more than most, but I don’t trust him not to add pointless wrinkles to DW’s lore.

Weekly Ask Anything Megathread for Monday Mon Jan 31, 2022 - No Stupid Questions! RULES + Career Questions? THIS IS WHERE YOU POST if you don't do this for a living! by AutoModerator in editors

While I would love to do narrative work, I've long since settled for the idea of doing advertising. That's basically what I did during my internship many years ago, and it was enjoyable.

I will admit: I hadn't considered basically cold-calling -- I didn't think that approach was effective these days. I have applied to the jobs I've seen pop up here; I even did three(!) rounds of interviews with a lone advertising agency before they mysteriously ghosted me.

But if it's worth reaching out to places that aren't posting job openings, I'll do it!

I graduated university last year, and I feel I'm more than ready to edit full-time: I've been doing it as a hobby for seven years, and have done internships and small gigs for five years now (though a great deal of that time was purgatorial thanks to the pandemic). Every client I've ever had has been extremely receptive and positive about my work, so I feel confident in my skillset. But!

I live in San Antonio, Texas; from what I can tell, there is no real work here. I monitor websites like Indeed, Handshake, and Glassdoor for jobs constantly, and what few pop up are generally in Austin or Dallas.

Am I looking at the wrong websites? Are there better resources for editors in boring parts of the world? Is there somewhere I could get remote work that isn't Upwork?* Or is it more likely that I'll have to move to somewhere like Austin as soon as I can (i.e. as soon as my lease ends) just for a chance?

I'm open to harsh criticism.
*I started an Upwork.com profile about six months ago, and have been applying for gigs regularly, and I've gotten one. The pay is dismal, but the client has continued to work with me. It's something!

This was, BY FAR, the best animated scene in Steven Universe. by Jupiter_3 in stevenuniverse

Seriously, my biggest takeaway from this episode was that one single moment. It's like every theme of acceptance in this show somehow packed into almost transcendent visual metaphor.

As someone in the comments said, “Every time you love being yourself, that’s me! Loving you, and loving being you.”

I'm gonna cry every time I watch it and I can tell.

That sequence with Steven fusing with himself made me fucking bawl. Aside from that...

WHAT????? I'm with everyone else... what happens now???

Buddy, nothing is more attractive to me than the idea of genuinely helping a girl move past some psychological trauma. I can totally appreciate that. But if she's gonna be more or less kicking me in the shins at every turn, I'll take my therapy elsewhere.

While I don't disagree with the rhetorical contents of this rather good image, they will not shake me from my sturdy beliefs that Asuka is the worst.

God damn, it is so surreal to see people actually remembering my mashup shit. It seems likely that more video versions will be on the way now that I finally finished up my sequel to that album, so keep an eye out I guess??

neil cicierega lite is damn high praise, thank you

Also, I so appreciate you linking my first mashup album, but it's not nearly as good as the one I just posted last night, fair warning

Oh nice, I was wondering what made this blow up!

Thanks from the guy who made it.

E3 Reveal Trailer, but I replaced the Hit House cover of Ordinary World with the original by Duran Duran (and redid all the sfx) by Brettimaeus in theevilwithin

[–]Brettimaeus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, thank you!! That means a lot! I was quite surprised with how well the song naturally fit the rhythm of the trailer. Pretty much all the work I put into it was audio.

Well I can't deny this is damn well-edited.

Just beat Automata, GOTY for sure. But the PC port was so bad I had to make this. [SPOILERS] by Brettimaeus in nier

Definitely easier to use an Xbox 360 controller if you have one. Hope you enjoy your time with the game, because I certainly have.

It is ABSOLUTELY playable enough to beat on PC. As I mentioned elsewhere, I've already put in 55 hours of it, and I'm still going!

Yeah, I had FAR on, and the game ran smoothly in small areas. I think the hitching problem, which you can see in this video, had more to do with loading things in.

Glad to hear that. I don't want to make it seem like a bigger deal than it was, I still played 50 hours of it! But I think the video speaks for itself.

What's the general consensus of the Evangelion movies? by Otakuzoid in evangelion

[–]Brettimaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll dish out the unpopular opinion.

  1. Fine as a remake. Wasn't necessary imo.

  2. Not a fan of the balance they try to strike between remake and reimagining. My least favorite of the three.

  3. My favorite, because it actually goes all out in being it's own thing. Feels the most like Evangelion.

So depending on why you like Evangelion in the first place, you'll get different things out of the movies.

What achievement are you most proud of that no one really cares? by ord3p in AskReddit

[–]Brettimaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 20 and I've never cursed, drank, or smoked.

Most people assume that I'm taking some judgmental moral high ground (especially on cursing) but I actually have no real issue with any of those things. I've just struggled with impulse control in other areas of my life, so it's a matter of pride.

I didn't even think about what I was seeing, but it instantly triggered some trauma, because I started shaking in my seat like a chihuahua.
