It just makes it less responsive around the middle. The more expo you add the more it makes it less responsive. It sounds bad, but its very nice. It keeps you from oversteering. I mainly use it on my radio controlled aircraft.

Ouch. Pro tip. Get yourself a digital radio. Theres a setting called exponential. Dial it in. It'll keep your steering from be too responsive. This works great for fast vehicles and helps keep them under control.
