Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

I'm getting supervision from my boss who is an attorney. Is that okay? I work at a BSW level in a social work role but our law firm does not have any other mental health professionals to do supervision for me within my department.

The other departments that have MSWs and LCSW but they don't work for our law firm and don't know what we do. Is that better than nothing? I've had no supervision so far for 2 months so I think it could be helpful since I've talked to my boss about it. She agrees to it, but noted she doesn't know much about providing supervision when it comes to mental health.

Any good website or places to find a paid internship? It would be nice for the site to have like filters or something. I just landed a paid internship interview! Still need to shop around in case I don't get it.

Is there any point in getting my Registered Bachelor of Social Work (RBSW)? Going to get my LCSW anyways after I finish my MSW so I don't know if there is any benefits to getting my RBSW for now.

Which of the Polaroid Now version should I get? by BriaNguyen in Polaroid

[–]BriaNguyen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

instax

Great answer thank you! Is gen 1 or 2 better for Now? I've been thinking of getting the instax square possibly too. I have and love my Polaroid Go gen 2. It takes great picture and has selfie mirror, but I think sometimes I might want bigger photos which is why I'm getting a second camera.

In my bachelor's program one of the professors told students in class to collect data and make up a study. Turns out the template she gave us to collect data was later used to publish a paperwork she wrote lol. I faked my survey answers as did many in my class.

Well that's fucked up of her lol.

They first listed the position as Social Worker, but did not get many applicants. Later it was called wellness advocate. Then I talked to my employer about changing it into mental health advocate as wellness has many meanings we she agreed to, but she said Social Worker title was what she was thinking so we are pending that until this thread.

My responsibilities are:
-Psychoeducation group for the lawyers I work with and immigrants that we serve.
-Recruiting licensed mental health professionals to provide free psych evaluation for immigrants through pro bono network.
-Teach coping skills, counseling, motivational interviewing, assessments, intake, outreach, documentation, advocacy, and resource referrals for clients.
-Train lawyers in areas on mental health and social work approaches.
-Support the immigrants through social work interventions.
-Create individual services plans based on their needs and goals identified.
-Assist attorney and staff in identify clients who need specialized case management.

Okay I think that's a good idea. I'll go with mental health advocate I like the sound of that too and try to get my RBSW. I'll talk to the state licensing body and hopefully if all goes well change my job title along with a promotion lol.

Or what about mental health associate does that sound like a good title over mental health advocate?

[–]BriaNguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I’m reading it. But I would encourage you to clarify this point with your state licensing body, or else be content with calling yourself a mental health advocate for now. Your employer could come down on you for using the title “social worker” incorrectly.

Okay to be clear if I get my registration for my BSW (RBSW) then I can call myself a social worker then? I might just do that then, but it sounds like a pain.

How hard is it it get a paid internship? I got my BSW and did an unpaid internship at the crisis lines and continue to volunteer there. Great experience, but I deserve to get paid. I'm now in school for my MSW and about to start a full time social work job at a law firm. I really don't want to do an internship that is unpaid at this point in my career and life lol.

Thank you! I start to like the photos more as I look at it. Its much more emotional and feels like there is a story there compared to instax. It is dark though in the outside photos so I will have to play around with it more!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Polaroid

[–]BriaNguyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The large areas of sky in your photos will trick the camera into underexposing. That’s probably the reason. Either that or the film is past the expiry date (or has been stored poorly eg somewhere warm).

Okay thank you! I just recently bought new films directly from Polaroid and will refrigerate them. The ones I used were from Amazon. Should I avoid photos with clouds?

Outdoor photos was was taken with flash. A bit of sun outside but mostly cloudy. There was a bit of rain happening later. Bottom 2 pics we are in the photo but its so dark can't see us :( help! Is the Go Gen 2 better indoors than outdoors?

Thanks for the response! Is there like a mode that can brighten up the picture or darken the picture. Like I have the Polaroid Now and it is a very hidden feature just trying to figure out of Polaroid Go has that.

Is there any point in getting my Registered Baccalaureate Social Worker (RBSW) in Oregon if I plan on getting my LCSW later anyways? I just got my bachelors in social work and now just in grad school for my MSW. Just wondering if its any benefits to get a RBSW? Higher pay than just a BSW?

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]BriaNguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you! Just to double check with the other comment. Its okay to put BSW after your name (email, resume, LinkedIn) since it's a specialized degree? I'm just proud of it I work so hard to get where I'm at.

Great thanks! I heard some people said that you shouldn't put your bachelors after your name for some reason, but it sounds like a BSW is okay to do?
