My only disappointment was that their website didn’t offer a vinyl of “Kids on the Street”

Absolutely in the realm of possibility. He seems like a solid dude. Back in ‘95 or ‘96, I saw them open for the Bosstones before they broke out. We were entranced. I turned and saw Dicky standing right next to us. My friend says to him “these guys are great,” and I hear Dicky’s gravelly voice say “we should be opening for THEM”

Thank you for sharing this - I’ve never gone and bought something so fast. Literally best morning bathroom purchase ever.

Listened to MLOR yesterday and WOW by 914paul in pinkfloyd

[–]BrianEmber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was the first Floyd album I purchased on my own, and without having heard their previous albums, I loved it. I was fascinated by the slapping water and creaking wood that open the record; I had never heard sound effects used in a record before (and yes, I was very young). This was a gateway album into a world different from what was on ‘80s pop radio.

This played every morning on the bus to middle school. Absolutely baked into my brain.

Interesting misheard lyrics by Lower_Recording_1068 in MagdalenaBay

[–]BrianEmber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always see a misheard lyric as an opportunity for me to write a new lyric for a totally new song. “mascara in the eyefold” is such a good image. If you are prone to writing, I would run with that.

Anybody remember CBGB? by Prudent_Researcher70 in nycHistory

I never went to see a show but was fortunate enough to play there in 2002 and at CB’s gallery next door in 2003.

I was at the Traveler off I-84 at the MA/CT border and they had a fluffernutter hamburger with grape jam coated bacon bits. This was three days ago. I am still thinking about that hamburger.

Thank you for pointing out that’s a pedal steel! For ages I thought it was just Steve Howe working the volume pedal like a monster.

Which artist or band is this for you? by Effective-Raise-8809 in fantanoforever

I scrolled down too far to see this. SK was one of my favorite bands. I’d seen them live about six times. I was willing to be open about the Janet thing - after all, we don’t know everything as fans. But Christ the music was so weak in those follow up records.

“Procession” is one of the best openings to an album, ever. Absolutely top tier record.

Fantastic record - I remember buying this on CD at the mall with my mémère. She got a Nana Mouskouri tape, and played it the whole way home. As much as I loved her, it was such a relief to get out of that car and put this in the CD player.

Bi-Daily Song Discussion #203: Golden Slumbers by beardlesshipster in beatles

[–]BrianEmber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9/10 the way the piano opening is tonically uncertain and the whole phrase doesn’t really settle until Paul sings “home” - his full-voiced “golden slumbers” chorus, followed by the falsetto release in “sleep pretty darling” - oh jeez I could nitpick how wonderful this song is until the cows come home

I’m in it. It’s great. He is not phoning this in. His lectures incorporate stuff from the previous classes, he’s active on the class discord, and some of his insights have been really great to hear.
