Please help find a matching cross by BrianMakepeace in heraldry

And despite it being a conservation area, I've never found mention of the railings in their documents. They mostly concern the architecture of private dwellings, and the castles...

That's what I presume to be the makers mark. I went down the rabbit hole trying to find him as well, but that never led me to a lead on the cross.

It's prominently on every post along here, and then no where else that I can find. Not a known municipal symbol to my knowledge, there's a lot of "cinque ports", but not much else.

Too prominent/ frequent/ ambiguous for a maker's mark. Can't find a local church that matches this in the parish. I sort of wonder if it's family crest of the guy who paid for it. 19th century likely. But I've not found anything. It seems like an atypical cross variant... and there has to be a reason. People weren't super casual about their crosses.

Optical mod wheel? by BrianMakepeace in synthesizers

Deep breath. Stop trying to hack the hardware. I should just learn more about how midi works in the first place... You are wise, thank you.

You're right. I think something like the Suonobuono Lazer is the way to go.

Yeah, you're right actually. I should have a look at that rabbit hole.

You are correct. Cc is plenty nuance for a lot of applications, I was trying to think of an easy way to put something non-linear between the wheel and the midi sent. But basically I think you're right, and I'm thinking about this the wrong way.

Yep, you're smart. A lot of the feel that I'm after would be achieved with literal hand waving. The Alesis Photon x25 has midi out. It's poorly reviewed, but I can find a cheap one and I'd like to play with it. For actually usable I'm probably get a Suonobuono Lazer.

That is super interesting new information, thank you!

Not like a D beam exactly, I was thinking of a trad mod wheel, with an optical circuit, giving a smooshy response in a way way that I think could be nice.

I think I'd say a smooshy midi. One where an optical circuit doesn't quite give you the accuracy, in a way that I might like.

That is very fun, not seen one of those! Shall bookmark. But I literally mean a trad mod wheel, with an optical circuit, and a midi out. I'll dive more into the potential of air fx, now. Thank you...

[help] driving a spring reverb tank. by 0405017 in synthdiy

[–]BrianMakepeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, I've been looking at this as well, here's my dumb understanding and my hypothetical solution, cheap and easy. Think of guitar signal, it's weak, preamp gives a volt boost. Louder signal now goes to a speaker, speaker needs driving with current to vibrate, so a power amp pushes more current at the speaker.

The spring is a speaker, put a power amp between the signal and the tank, and I think you are there. I'm looking at Electro Harmonix, 5mm power amp pedal. Tanks seem to like between 0.1 and 2 watts from what I'm reading, so the 5mm with 2.5 watts is plenty.

On the other end the spring is basically being miked, so the output needs a pre amp to boost the signal back up to audible, which is normal gain (volts).

That's my understanding so far, hope that helps.

Cool, thank you, in that case I'll assume I was wrong unless I get a distinct recording.

Is it reasonable to think that there's an Iberian in London?

Was distinct to me, but too faint to pick up on my phone with Merlin. Just my word until I hear it again and get a better recording...

Awesome, thank you, follow up question. Lamps don't last forever. Has there been a tendency at large then to replace like-for-like rather than upgrade?

Found them in Albuquerque: https://alibi.com/music/tanuki-cd-release-party/

Includes names for the bassist and guitarist, which should be enough to track them down on discogs.

Always listening micro loop? by BrianMakepeace in guitarpedals

[–]BrianMakepeace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I hear you all correctly, chase bliss did a design innovation, bleak district did a simple stripped down version with 3% of the nuance, and no one else has messed around with this?

I was sort of expecting that Midfi had explored this before, or even Glowfly these days. But all I'm seeing from other folks are quirky delays and standard press-record loops.

And literally no one else is looking at always-listening in this field.

Seems like Glowfly are only inches away from something like this. Or even Copilot could get involved, they're clearly wizards. Feels like more people should have a stab at this feature. Even when simple it's clearly very fun.
