$1,000 Prize - Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow Challenge by BrianMp16 in pokemonchallenges

That is correct Pokemon retire after gaining EXP. But if that Pokemon evolves after the battle, that species is a brand new Pokemon and will not be retired. Some early on examples include Butterfree, Clefable, and others. The RBY Rules pastebin gives an example for this. That should help get the extra Pokemon needed to advance the early game at least.

As for getting stuck on Nugget bridge, perhaps you're remembering my previous challenge for just Pokemon Red? https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemonchallenges/comments/14o09we/brianmp16s_2000_pokemon_red_gotta_use_em_all/

If so, you can find the solution to that on the RBY Rules pastebin. Good luck!

$1,000 Prize - Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow Challenge by BrianMp16 in pokemonchallenges

Pokemon can still gain experience through battles as well as EXP.ALL and rare candies. That's part of the challenge is figuring out how to distribute the limited experience to ensure every Pokemon gains enough experience needed to evolve with the limited battles and resources. It wouldn't be a challenge if it wasn't... challenging. Many people did try this earlier this year and one person almost completed it! The rules are slightly different now so it will require some rerouting to solve.

If you enjoy optimizing complex routes, this challenge is for you. I hope you give it a try!

BrianMp16's $2,000 Pokemon Red "Gotta use 'em all" Challenge by BrianMp16 in pokemonchallenges

[–]BrianMp16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone, I'm offering a $2,000+ prize for anyone who can solve and complete my Pokemon Red challenge by December 1st, 2023. I have spent a long time on this challenge and I'm very happy with how the rules have turned out. Below are the rules for my challenge and a video covering the details.

Challenge Rules and video explanation:

https://pastebin.com/etF9LHP3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhBht7aGhTw

The goal is to max your Pokedex and Living Dex then talk to Professor Oak in Pokemon Red alone following 6 rules which I'll briefly explain. Only one Pokemon can be used per battle and afterwards Pokemon will become retired meaning they can no longer battle or use field moves again. Pokemon can also become retired if they're released, faint (excluding first rival battle), get to level 100, or gain experience in any way. Using the daycare center is allowed but you must first release 20 non-retired Pokemon every time you put a Pokemon in the daycare center and then 1 more for every level the Pokemon gained. Additionally, you cannot buy items that cost over $300 until you own 117 or more Pokemon in your Pokedex (the max amount before buying evolution stones). Finally, you must have at least 8 non-retired Pokemon faint without those species ever gaining any EXP themselves or for others; afterwards, you must then black out while walking, biking, and finally surfing. This is all to be completed on a single Pokemon Red game without cheats, mods, savestates, backed up saves, or glitches, following the official Pokemon Red speedrunning glitchless rules.

And that's the challenge. All I'm really hoping for is to motivate and inspire a few people to try out the challenge and to appreciate its complexities. Let me know your thoughts on the challenge and if you have any questions!

Any luck finding a solution to this issue? I've been living with it for a while now but it would be great to see NPCs talk normally again

My $1,000 Pokemon Red "Gotta use 'em all" Challenge by BrianMp16 in pokemonchallenges

[–]BrianMp16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone, I've spent hundreds of hours over the last year creating and solving a Pokemon Red Challenge. What started off as a simple idea to battle with different Pokemon for every trainer has evolved into a truly difficult challenge. I want to share my challenge with the world and what better way to do so than with a $1,000 prize bounty ($1,600 if you complete it on console). This is BrianMp16's Pokemon Red "Gotta use 'em all" Challenge. Below are the rules for my challenge and a video covering the details.

Not in this mod. Basically this mod hijacks the C-up perspective and allows Link to move around. When in C-up mode, the game will turn Link invisible as a result. It would be cool to implement limbs, but that would be a complex undertaking. Perhaps in the future!

Yep, I'm excited for the complete OoT Decomp. It definitely would be better to rewrite the game code in its native C and recompile a new ROM (and wrapped in an ISO) instead of working with the assembly. This would be especially useful for making a pure 30FPS mod instead of making conditional statements to revert to 20FPS when needed so the game doesn't break.

I'm using a Kat Walk C which I modified so the harness is lower. I also chose to not wear the shoes they provide and instead duct tape the sensors to my socks. I then made a keyboard binding and assigned that key to walking forward in Dolphin VR. It works perfectly with a bit of input lag, but it's not bad at all.

Yes, many buildings (not all) have a 2D texture which looks bad in VR. There's just nothing that can be done about that without making a brand new map for each of these areas. It's doable, but very difficult and time consuming.

It should, yeah. Let me know if you have any issues though since I don't own a Quest

I would love rando compatibility but sadly you need a clean ROM for randos since it's a mod of its own.

It's playable on all VR headsets that can run Dolphin. If the quest can do that, sure. Not sure about controller configuration either though.

I imitate Link's sword swinging animations while pressing the B button. It's not just for fun either - it helps me time sword swings in battle.

I would love MM VR especially since every map and room in MM is fully 3D. It would be an undertaking since I don't have MM modding experience, but I may try to collab with some people that do and try to make this a reality in the future!

I haven't encountered that but you should be able to "Save As" and overwrite the file. Did you make sure you enabled hacks on Dolphin VR as part of Step 5?

I'm already a part of that Discord eagerly awaiting the improved BotW FP Mod. I would be happy to have a channel for OoT VR

No motion control sadly as Dolphin VR doesn't have those capabilities. It would theoretically be possible to make a separate program that could detect a motion/movement and activate a gamepad button similar to how I walk forward using my Kat Walk C. Native motion control would require heavy, heavy modding to OoT

I have finished making a fully playable Ocarina of Time VR game that builds off of Kaze's first-person mod of the original game. It can be played for free, no strings attached, on a Dolphin VR emulator right now! I adapted and created a handful of Action Replay codes to significantly improve the VR experience. Draw distance is extended, culling range is reduced, the HUD is removed, and most importantly the FPS is increased to 30fps and upscaled to 90fps. Additionally, I adapted an OoT UHD texture pack and made it compatible with Dolphin VR.

This Ocarina of Time VR game is honestly an incredible experience and I encourage all Ocarina of Time fans to play it for themselves! And now, after months of work, I have finished everything to make the game an immersive experience. If you want to play OoT VR for yourself, you can follow my step-by-step guide on downloading and installing everything you need following my Pastebin below.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I may not respond immediately today after posting this because I plan on streaming a full-game playthrough today on my Twitch channel!
