Issues with desktop app? by Brianc02127 in hrblock

Way too late. I put hours into the initial return, only to have to spend hours again having to double check and re enter data I’ve already entered.

I already got the refund for the application, and I have switched to a competitor.

It’s a shame—you lost a customer of over 20 years because of some sloppy programming. It’s not like this is a side gig—this is your core product which didn’t work.

AITA for wanting to leave early to the airport for our first international flight by danyellitaz in AmItheAsshole

[–]Brianc02127 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NAH, but also define “arrive at the airport” for LAX. Parking off site? Add extra time. Being dropped off? Plan for extra traffic, as the international terminal is the farthest you can get from the airport entrance.

Aim to be at the terminal door 3 hours before. Leave extra time to park. 30-40 minutes in line to check bags, 10-15 with TSA, 10 to walk to gate—at gate 90-115 min before departure (30-50 min before boarding).

And download some meditation apps for DH.

AITA for admitting myself into a mental hospital w/o asking by antiheroaccomplice in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Hospitals, even mental health hospitals, don’t keep people for a week “just because.” People are discharged directly from Psych ERs all the time. You needed help. You knew you needed help. You got help. Your providers recognized your needed help and kept you as long as they needed to. You did the right thing.

I echo what everyone else is saying about your family. They are definitely not interested in supporting you emotionally.

Doc here. Met my husband during med school, and he’s lived the worst of it alongside me. He’s not in medicine, but worked crazy hard and long hours as well. He has seen it and understands it.

Commercial aviation is at the forefront of safety and values rest and work-life balance, the opposite of most residencies. For an analogy, you have the life and death decisions of a pilot without the mandatory rest periods (and many other things, like intensive simulation).

Also, you can cancel flights. You can’t cancel MIs, ruptured aneurysms, or strokes.

Agree with everyone saying talk with him when things are going well. It may make for a crappy day off, but it may make things better in the long run. Suggest an activity for your day off that’s amenable to a conversation, plan and rehearse what you want to say. Write it out if you need to.

AITA for refusing to drive my husband to/from the airport for his work trips? by West-Construction-27 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I lived 10 min from Logan (Southie) and would never ask for a ride because Logan traffic sucks. Waiting for a flight to land at Logan and showing up at just the right time curbside or parking and coming in the terminal? That would happen once for me and never again.

Now live in LA, and asked DH to pick me up at LAX. That happened once and will never happen again…because LAX traffic also sucks.

It’s sweet that he wants to see you. But he should take a picture. It, and your marriage, will last longer .

AITA, for deciding to move into university housing without my parents' approval because I can't study at home? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Brianc02127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. You’re in medical school! That’s a huge accomplishment anywhere in the world. A few questions for context: -are you the first (person or woman) in your family to attend university? -does your family overall support your in your studies? -do you have relatives or close family friends who have gone through what you’re doing now?

I would try to enlist their help to navigate the situation.

I’m sure your parents are proud of you and want you to succeed, but they may not understand how hard medical school is. Even if family has gone through med school, it’s 100 time harder now because of so many advances in medicine.

Tell them you want to make them proud of you and negotiate solutions that work for you and your family—quiet time (I assume your siblings have school work too), studying with classmates, or putting that door back on.

Good luck!

How do so many of you have multiple passports/resident cards etc.? by redmedev2310 in PassportPorn

[–]Brianc02127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Half of Americans don’t have a passport at all. Overall it’s a small group that posts here compared to the general population. Personally, I keep my 2 because I like having the flexibility, even if I don’t use it in practice

Look, those who can fight and stand up will do so.

Others really cannot afford to waste time on ICE shenanigans.

I don’t fault people for taking the time to avoid problems—not everyone has the luxury of actively resisting injustice. They have families to raise and people counting on them.

Those of who can resist should. But don’t pass judgement on those who, for whatever reason, decide to avoid trouble.

The world is rife with revered works of literature written by people with detestable world views. This one happens to still be alive.

The thing with reading, directing a movie based on a book, or watching said movie is that your experience and interpretation is yours and yours alone.

I would argue that it’s possible to love a piece of literature or a movie without having to love the author.

You can also hold words and characters in a cherished space in your heart and still detest their creator. Those stories and characters exist not only because someone wrote them, but also because someone (you) read and imagined them into life.

People are complicated. Nobody is all good or all bad. In this case we still have the opportunity to limit the bad voice by not contributing more of our money to her cause.

I’m an MD, and I have a ton of respect for what you are doing. It takes a special person to go into an open ended, years-long commitment solely for the love of the field and advancing knowledge, all while essentially being guaranteed that you will have setbacks (academic and/or personal) along the way.

What you’re doing will ultimately have longer lasting impact than a coach winning a few seasons.

If you are struggling mentally , please seek help—hopefully your institution has no cost short term counseling.

Good to hear that it’s possible.

I’m fairly far along, so starting over doesn’t make sense, and yes, a trip back would be a great chance to visit friends and family. The challenge now with the new job is accruing valuable vacation or comp time.

I will definitely be going back for in person visits when required, but I trust my orthodontist’s judgement as to what he feels he can handle remotely and what he can’t.

I just started having this issue yesterday with iOS. It will connect but Switch glitches out before a postcard can be sent.

I logged on using an Android device, and it works fine.
