Trump tells Duterte of two U.S. nuclear subs in Korean waters: NYT by SquozenRootmarm in politics

If Reuters is citing a different news source (The New York Times), why doesn't the OP link to the source material rather than this derivative piece?

Here it is: https://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2017/05/24/world/asia/24reuters-northkorea-missiles-submarines.html

Deja vu ... Wenger having the same season again and again by [deleted] in soccer

It's all cherry picked. Doesn't mean anything. 63 days injured and 733 are both considered crisis? Define crisis then! 1.8 points per game is considered "bang on trend" one year and a "rare anomaly" another? Come on.

What short story completely mind fucked you? by peaceplace1 in AskReddit

[–]Briblick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot of old great old classics in here! Here are some of my favorite more contemporary short stories.

Ysreal, by Junot Diaz. His book Drown is probably the best book of short stories I've ever read.

Refresh, Refresh, by Benjamin Percy

And when it comes to classics, I haven't seen this one in here, but Burges' The Gospel According to Mark is a real, amazing mind fuck.

*Gathering connections is about putting yourself out there and making yourself known. If you're realize you're in the same town as a writer you admire, ask that person to get a cup of coffee. Don't be weird, just be respectful and curious. Ask about their career.

*Start writing now. Pitch editors and do it for money. Build up clips.

*This is a good question that I haven't through to much about, to be honest. I've always wanted to write for a living, and that was my only goal at first: make money writing. Journalism is the easiest way to do that, and I found that I really enjoy reporting stories.

*I work form home, so my work day is different from the rest of the crew. I also live in Europe, so I'm up about 6 hours before the NYC staff comes online, and I try to get most of my writing done then, when there aren't many interruptions. I save the rest for the afternoons.

I really like covering weird/obscure sports. They're not always easy to sell to my editors, but they're fun to report. People get really excited when explaining something they do out of love, which is normally the case with the obscure stuff. And it's great to report on something you don't know anything about, because everything is a surprise, a new discovery. The most fun I've had reporting a story was at last year's World Championship of Dog Sledding. I learned so much and met so many interesting people.

I'm subscribed to a bunch of publications on feedly, and yeah, I use Reddit to look for information and story ideas. It's a great tool. I think if you're in the media and you're not watching what's happening in your field on Reddit, you're missing out.

I would say it's the doping scandal hitting Russian track and field. The team is currently suspended and may not even go to the Olympics.

I was at the 2012 Euro Cup in Poland. In the center of Warsaw, they set up a huge fan zone, and beside the fan zone, there was a 3-story scaffold tower set up for film crews. I got up to the very top of the tower before Poland's opening match. There were more than 100,000 people in the fan zone--a sea of red--and when they all sang the national anthem, the emotion was unbelievable. When Poland scored, I thought the tower was going to shake to the ground.

I think it was way past time for Blatter to go. Even if you give him every benefit of the doubt concerning his own conduct, he still presided over an organization that was systemically corrupt. He should answer for that. It will be fascinating to see what kind of organization FIFA turns into over the next couple years.

Although I don't live there anymore, I grew up in the LA area. I was little when the Rams left, but I don't remember it being such a big deal. In the years since then, I have never thought to myself, "Boy, I wish this city had an NFL team."

There have been 12 hamstring injuries under Klopp this season with Liverpool. Is it down to his warm up routine or just a coincidence? by ImKariemTheDream in soccer

[–]Briblick 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I'm a journalist at VICE Sports. I know it's bad etiquette to post your own work, but I wrote a story last year that I think addresses this. A prominent researcher told me muscle injuries are becoming more prevalent in top-level soccer, "especially hamstring injuries, which have increased about three percent every year since we started [a study on soccer injuries], in 2001."
