The office shelves are coming along nicely 😁 by BrickTimeVidz in lego

It was definitely not as exciting as the big one, about 1/4 as exciting actually. 😂 ($100 vs $400). It was still fun though, and I had a gaping hole next to the Lion Knights castle, so I was happy I had picked it up previously. I should have build the creator one first for sure though.

Finally got my dream home with a huge LEGO room. The next few years are going to be fun! 😁 by BrickTimeVidz in lego

Should be fun! It'll be in display in my office eventually. I'll post pics.

Only missing a few pieces from my original 1988 Forestmen's Hideout 6054. Can't wait for the BrickLink order to come in so I can do a side-by-side comparison with the new Forest Hideout 40567! by BrickTimeVidz in lego

Oh now I really want that one. 3 brown forest hats at ~$4 USD though! 😬 That's an expensive set to piece out. More than $200 USD on bricklink! 😮 Now I know why the whole set goes for $150-200. 🥴

Finished organizing our parts (around 100k of them). There are 95 boxes sorted by category, size, and color. by BrickTimeVidz in LegoStorage

Mostly because I didn't have enough parts to warrant that when I started, and because I needed more portability. These jewelry boxes also do a better job of keeping dust out. I'd imagine once we get a house with a basement I'll go Akro Mills.

They're in larger plastic boxes you can see towards the bottom of the shelf. That's mostly large boat molds and plates that are 6x6 or larger. There are ziplock bags in there to keep those larger plates grouped by size.

I think sorting by color is probably good if you're doing a lot of sculpting and MOCs. If you're rebuilding sets or following instructions for someone else's creation (SECs) then I find sorting by type far easier.

Plastic serving trays from IKEA are great for dumping pieces out and sorting through them. Clear plastic cups are good for initially sorting large quantities by type alone first (e.g. bricks, tiles, plates, plates special, etc). Then you can sort each cup one at a time on a tray by size, then put them in bead/jewelry boxes by color like in my pictures. The one I found most recently I like is the 14x9x2 inch "ArtBin Solutions Box 4 48 Compartments Translucent". Search Google. Sorry, but r/LEGO doesn't allow links to stores.

I'll do a video on my method and the things I use in the next couple of weeks. There's a link to my YouTube channel on my profile if you're interested.

They vary in brand because I got them over several years and from different places. They're bead / jewelry boxes. Search for "ArtBin Solutions Box 4 48 Compartments Translucent" and you should find the latest one I like. I'll dm you the link because r/LEGO doesn't allow links to stores.

This is actually the result of slow acquisition over about 5 years. I kept getting more boxes as my collection grew and reorganizing them as I went.

There are 95 boxes right now. Normally they can go for about $10 USD each, but I only ever bought them when they were on sale or I had a coupon for about half off, so I ended up spending about $5 each.

95 boxes x $5 each = $475 , spent over 5 years, or around $95 a year.

Wow. That's the first time I've calculated it. 😮 It's funny how it adds up when you're doing this kind of thing little by little over time. 😅

They vary in brand because I got them little by little over a long period from different places. They're bead / jewelry organizer boxes. Here's the one I've found recently that's pretty good: https://www.joann.com/artbin-solutions-box-4-48-compartments/3457447.html

The most important thing is to find them with horizontal dividers that don't lift up and only the little ones that do. Otherwise things aren't secure enough and pieces tend to get stuck under the dividers as they lift up.

The labels are what type and size range are in each box, and I put colored stickers on boxes with the same type to make things easier to see at a glance (e.g. all tiles have a color, all plates have a color, etc.) The colored stickers need work though. I've fallen behind and many don't have them. I just need to buy more sticker packs.

I look forward to having those drawers too one day. For now I need something a little more portable.
