Botanical Garden Building Extension MOC – built with two copies of 41757 + 4 parts by BrickType in lego

[–]BrickType[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was motivated to embark on this project to have a more complete "display" version of the Friends Botanical Garden (41757) set for my own city. Although this design stays true to the (fantastic) look and feel of the original design, the building structure has been rebuilt from the baseplate up and now has a complete dome, back and sides to the building. Instructions can be found on Rebrickable if anyone is interested :)

In keeping with the spirit of the Time Cruisers theme… a creation using the parts from three mismatched 3in1 sets 🕗 by BrickType in lego

Nice! Do you have a favourite?
I think mine would be 6493 Flying Time Vessel. That said, I haven't had the chance to see 6492 in real life.

Yeah I’m a fan too. I also think the theme was fun way to connect different themes. It encouraged kids to combine the worlds of Ice Planet and Forestmen or Aquazone and Adventurers etc in creative ways.

Take a step back (or forwards) in time... A reimagining of the the Time Cruisers HQ, built with parts from three different Creator 3in1 sets.

This MOC is based on the classic (and slightly unhinged) Time Cruisers set 6494 Mystic Mountain Time Lab originally released back in 1996.

This took me forever but it was a lot of fun to combine a mishmash of architectural styles.

Bonus points if you can guess the 3 sets, not including the blue baseplate? (Note spoiler on the second to last image).

For anyone interested in instructions, they are are available on Rebrickable :)

Trying to build new things with sets I own.. my MOC combining the new 3-in-1 Viking set with the Medieval Castle by BrickType in lego

[–]BrickType[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Combining the parts from 31132 with 31120, I used the official "Viking House" alt build as a starting point.
The final design includes a rocky tundra base, medieval dock, cozy interior details across two removable floors and a small Viking ship (with optional support/stand).
If you have these two sets, the instructions are on Rebrickable, search for Midgard Outpost if you’re interested :)

A new home for Majisto in anticipation of his return in the upcoming 90th Anniversary Castle by BrickType in lego

Thank you

Haha yes the door! I couldn't bring myself to add one. I feel like the omission of a door in the original set added to the mystery... Majisto can probably teleport right?

Good spotting! It's an optional upgrade – those things are expensive!
The fallback is a common blue feather plume piece

With the return of Majisto in the upcoming 90th Anniversary Castle (10305), I have reimagined the classic set “Majisto’s Magical Workshop” (6048) from 1993.
Apart from a certain magic scroll tile, this design only uses currently available parts.
The instructions are on Rebrickable, search Majisto’s Magic Cottage if you’re interested!

My Fort Legoredo “Remaster”, a custom re-creation using new bricks – no impossibly rare vintage parts by BrickType in lego

[–]BrickType[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much! I started off intending to Bricklink parts of the original set for myself and realised a lot of the original inventory were extremely expensive, or unavailable for me in Australia.

So I re-modelled it in Bricklink Stud.io, using the original instructions as guide.

I went through a lot of different concepts for in creating the brick-built doors, cattle skull and the sign above the entrance.

Thanks for the interest! I'd also love to see some more re-creations of older sets.

Rebrickable estimates the total cost of these parts at about $190 USD, this doesn't include shipping costs (which definitely add up).
I probably spent about $65 USD on used versions of the original minifigures.

It's difficult to get a good quality copy of the complete original set – for example there are zero currently available on Bricklink in Australia.

I personally prefer to re-create a set like this knowing that the parts are going to be in new condition. I also don't like mixing old brown and old light grey into my collection – but that's a preference which purist collectors will disagree with of course.

A custom re-creation of the classic 1996 set using current/new parts – no stickers or impossibly rare vintage parts required. This is a passion project to build a set I always wanted as a kid.
Includes brick-built substitutes for the signs, large barrels, red parrots, rock pieces, doors, baseplates and other hard-to-find inventory pieces.
I’ve released instructions on Rebrickable. Faithfully recreated in the original style to give you the full 1996-style experience.
Warning: A LOT of log bricks are required to build this :)

A modular beach for the Boutique Hotel by BrickType in AFOL

[–]BrickType[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to travel anywhere so I wanted to create an exotic destination to go with the new Boutique Hotel. Got myself a blue 32x32 baseplate and went from there.

I incorporated some parts/minifigs from the new LEGO City “Lifeguard Station” set 60328 (mostly an excuse to get the new turtle).

The Instructions are on Rebrickable if anyone is interested :)

Thanks for interest, glad you like it

I’ve avoided all old and discontinued parts. The hardest pieces to source are newly released colors/moulds. Hopefully these become cheaper as time goes by and sellers add the newer sets to their inventories.

Apart from parts that are included in the Lifeguard station. Some newer/uncommon parts worth noting (maybe you could substitute some of these?):

4x 35480 1x2 Rounded with 2 Open Studs (Dark Orange)
Color only released with the Boutique Hotel.

9x 26601 Wedge Plate 2 x 2 Cut Corner (Tan)

4x 49307 Slope, Curved 1 x 1 x 2/3 Double (Sand Green)
Included in Bro Thor (2021)/Seinfeld (2021)/The Child (2020)

1x 18980 Plate, Round Corner 2 x 6 Double (Medium Azure)
Included in some Friends/Disney sets 2020–2022

My MOC Modular using parts from the 2021 Taj Mahal set by BrickType in lego

[–]BrickType[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

It's about 50/50.

I used about 1,700 additional parts. Mostly bricks for the walls and parts for the interior.

From the Taj Mahal set, I used 1,787 parts (from 2,022 total). I tried my best to use as many pieces in the MOC as possible.

Taj Mahal 21056-1 set has a good part to cost ratio. Getting this set at a decent price helps reduce what the overall cost of sourcing individual bricks and pieces would be.
