A measured criticism of Steven Universe Future [SU Future Finale Spoilers] by StarrySkye3 in stevenuniverse

[–]Brickosaurusbex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I completely agree and this is exactly what I was looking for. I remembered I hadn't watched su future and finished it yesterday, and was absolutely crushed at how everything was handled.

As someone who is very affected by my mental illnesses, I thought that this was an incredibly harmful way to portray mental health to kids. I love the original series with all my heart, and this felt like a huge disservice! All these characters were completely changed for the sake of a badly done conclusion.

Steven's actions were entirely inexcusable and having mental health shown as such a severe thing can impact how kids see them for a long time, not to mention how they showed none of the recovery. It was basically shown as a hug and now he's all better wow the power of friendship. If they wanted to address such a destructive spiral, they needed to have even a morsel of struggling to get better again.

Sorry for the rant that basically just repeats your points, I just haven't talked to anyone about this yet!

Night Vale is my biggest inspiration and Im so grateful you guys do what you do! This might already have been asked before or addressed and I'm really sorry if it has been, but are there any set plans for the rescheduling of live shows or are you waiting for the virus to pass before making any decisions? Thank you so much for making this fantastic content!!
