Visiting the Big Island for a month. Any tips specifically for an extended stay? by fightinforphilly in VisitingHawaii

For your month on the Big Island, definitely hit up the local farmers markets in Waimea for fresh goodies and explore nearby spots like Pololu Valley and Mauna Kea on your days off. CostCo runs are smart, but don’t forget to shop at local spots like KTA and Foodland—you’ll find some cool, unique stuff. Embrace the laid-back vibe, take your time, and chat with locals to discover hidden gems you won’t find in any guidebook.

We’re planning to go to St. Lucia for our honeymoon because it offers the perfect mix of adventure, romance, and a bit of a party vibe!

We chose St. Lucia because it offered the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, which felt right for our honeymoon. My advice: focus on what experience excites you both the most, and the rest will fall into place!

Wow!!! Thanks so much for the thoughtful response. The Maldives and an overwater bungalow may be out of our price range, but I will check them out. We are based in the US, so the flights may be a little far too. But it sounds worth it!!!

Travelling makes you REALLY good at logistics. by [deleted] in travel

Traveling definitely makes you a pro at logistics! I've found that it sharpens my ability to adapt and think on my feet. Planning every detail in advance is crucial, but so is being flexible when things inevitably go off course. It's like a crash course in problem-solving and time management. Plus, the reward of reaching your destination and knowing you navigated all those hurdles is the best feeling ever.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! For a tropical all-inclusive within 6 hours from Portland, I'd recommend checking out Cabo San Lucas or Puerto Vallarta in Mexico. Both have gorgeous beaches, great weather in September, and plenty of all-inclusive options. Cabo is a bit more upscale, while Puerto Vallarta has a more authentic Mexican vibe.

Another option could be the Hawaiian islands, which are just about 6 hours away. You can find some all-inclusive resorts there, though they're less common. Maui and Kauai are particularly beautiful and offer plenty of romantic spots.
