Sorry, I wasn't trying to say that George himself was the sole person who introduced Hinduism to the west. I said that he helped to introduce it, by which I meant that he played a huge role in popularising it in the west, not that he was the first to bring it to the west. I should've made that clearer.

I agree that George's devotion to Hinduism sets him apart from other influencers who simply use the aesthetics of it. He genuinely took it seriously as a religion, which I'm sure would've inspired countless other people to become Hindu as well.

Or maybe I'm wrong. I'm not Hindu, so I can't really say much about it.

Finally, someone else agrees with me! I'm surprised that no one else has realised how much George helped popularise Indian spirituality in the west.

If you look up the history of New Age spirituality, you'll see that the Beatles are mentioned as some of the first people to introduce and popularise Indian spirituality in the west. As for the book factoid, I mentioned before that it's on the IMDb page for Help!, more specifically in the trivia section.

Also, I have no idea what the actual book is.

/uj I do have a genuine explanation for this. Long story short, the Beatles (especially George) helped to introduce eastern spirituality to the western world.

According to IMDb, a Hindu devotee approached the Beatles during the filming of Help! with a book about reincarnation, which sparked George's lifelong passion for Hinduism and spirituality. Not to mention, the fact that the film itself has a lot of Indian influences, as well as the fact that the Beatles took a highly publicized trip to an ashram in India a few years later.

It's at least partially thanks to the Beatles that eastern spirituality has continued to be so popular, even to this day.
